great gameAssorted_sp | May 11, 2014 | Review of NBA 2K14
I've played the PC ports of this NBA2K series since 2K11. To me, 2K12 was the peak of the series so far. This year though, it seems like they're taking advantage of no competition and are taking it easy. Why?
- Players feel much less flexible/agile than in previous years
- They changed the controls, again. 2k13 probably had the best gamepad config to date
- Players are much more sloppy with regards to ball handling. Rebounds go through their hands, silly collisions cause players to lose the ball, sometimes players will randomly animate in ways not appropriate to the situation (sometime causing out of bounds calls)
- Inexplicably consistent blowing layups and dunks, sometimes with completely clear path
- Physics sometimes act weird. Going for a steal sometimes you'll knock the ball out the other side of the court or even into the crowd. This has an unintended funny side effect of making some blocks look way more spectacular than they should be
Still, even having said that laundry list of things that bother me, I'd recommend the game (unless you want to manually patch the new rosters into 2K13). I'm hoping we get a mid-season patch like we did last year to fix these annoyances.
These opinions only cover single player mode.
Dark AmazingAssorted_sp | May 7, 2014 | Review of Dark Souls II (NA)
I love the Soul's saga, but this reach another point, despite the fact that is probably the easier in combat (parry and bosses) is more intelligent than the others, the administration of farming, and the death penalty makes the game really hard. The structure of the world is bigger and the PvP is more interesting. My only complain is the great number of items who make the game easier, and the boss difficulty (Miss Ornstein and Smaug), but overall is better than dark souls 1 (personally demon souls still the best).
About the port, and already playing the PS3 version, this version is the best in all, FPS, textures, illumination, and the mouse+keyboard control is pretty good, despite that I prefer play with joystick, no doubt worth buy it.
begins historyAssorted_sp | May 6, 2014 | Review of Grand Theft Auto III
The game that started the phenomenon. There's a lot of fun to be had tearing through the city on your own personal crime wave. Offensive, yes, but the game doesn't take itself seriously. It's fun precisely because you do stuff you would never do in real life. Arcade action.
While fun, the game doesn't hold up well against modern open-world games. Some missions can be difficult, so be prepared to try and fail multiple times. Difficulty isn't a problem, though. I like a challenge. Poor controls on the PC, limited camera control, lack of in-game map, and overall fragility of your character/vehicles cause a lot of frustration. Half the time I feel like I'm fighting the game itself, rather than overcoming a challenge. The costs of failure is high, and you are more likely to just reload a previous save, meaning you'll need to visit your safe house to save between every mission. I may eventually finish this game, but I have to take it in doses. I'm hoping Vice City and San Andreas are less frustrating.
About controls... I like to use keyboard/mouse on foot and an XBox 360 controller while driving. The game does support controllers, but it doesn't recognize all of the buttons. If you want to use a controller, save yourself some grief and spend an extra $10 on XPadder. It's still not great, but at least you'll be able to use all buttons. You'll need them.
destroy everything in your pathAssorted_sp | May 5, 2014 | Review of Post Apocalyptic Mayhem
When you see the 44 metascore you might think this game is broken, but if you actually read the reviews you'll find out that the reviewers always complain about the same 3 issues: 1st, they were too dumb to notice that this game is NOT a simulator, it's a mayhem arcade. So, complains about the "unrealistic physics" are just stupidity. It's like complaining that Mario Kart is not realistic! 2nd, the game is too short. Now, it is true that there are too few tracks and too few cars, but the game actually runs very well with no bugs at all and it is actually fun for some fast destruction racing with friends. And 3rd, the graphics are not top quality. But in my opinion, they are good enough. (Actually, I just can't understand why people give so much importance to graphics on games. Fabulous graphics may impress you at first, but after some minutes you get used to it and your entertainment will actually rely much more on other aspects, not on the graphics, unless it's so bad that it hampers gameplay, which is rare and definitely not the case here) Though there are better titles out there, it's 44 metascore is simply absurd. This is not the first time I see a totally misleading metascore. I can't trust it anymore after this one.
