Had ideas, but never used them...Babelfish343 | June 14, 2012 | Review of Q.U.B.E.
You wake up in a mysterious white room with a coloured glove on your hand. Is this a test? Immediately similarities to Portal can be drawn, from the sterile environment to the layout of moving from test chamber to test chamber. However, this is as far as Q.U.B.E ever goes. There is no voiceovers or specific story, or any character building. There is almost NO incentive to keep playing unless you just love puzzle games for the sake of solving the puzzles. The white environments are eye-catching at the start, but soon become repetitive and boring.
Q.U.B.E had a lot of potential, but missed opportunities in design and innovation leave this to be just another puzzle game, albeit one out of the ordinary.
Awesome third game!Babelfish343 | Oct. 25, 2011 | Review of Sonic 3 and Knuckles CAP
While I do prefer the "cleaner" graphical look of Sonic 2, Sonic 3 adds more variety in level design from the very first stage. There are many more events that occur throughout the levels than in the previous two games, such as the water currents in Hydrocity Zone which push you while you try to hold on to a pole. The music is awesomely catchy and will stay in your head for days! You can now also play as Knuckles which provides some added content, but Sonic is still the best character to control in my opinion. A fantastic Sonic game, and very refreshing to play a classic 2D game considering how many mediocre 3D game attempts have been made in recent years on newer platforms. A must have for platformer fans.
Amazing classicBabelfish343 | Oct. 25, 2011 | Review of Sonic the Hedgehog CAP
Sonic 1 is a true classic, and the start of one of the best platformer series up there with Mario. I will never forget the days of playing Sonic the Hedgehog late at night on the Sega Megadrive, and never getting tired of the game even after starting again over and over! Unique 2D platforming gameplay makes this game stand out, and in it's day Sonic the Hedgehog was one of the best titles on the Sega Megadrive/Genesis. The gameplay can be fast, though in many sections you need to stop running as there is some tricky platforming and you will die many times over. The music is very catchy and memorable, and the Green Hill Zone theme will never die! The levels are varied nicely, and there are some challenging boss fights, which sometimes lead to some frustration. In retrospect, Sonic 2 polishes up the foundations Sonic 1 laid down, but overall Sonic 1 is a great game and spawned one of the best franchises in gaming history.
Fantastic!Babelfish343 | Oct. 25, 2011 | Review of Sonic The Hedgehog 2 CAP
Sonic 2 was one of my childhood memories and the Megadrive was the very first console I ever played. Knowing this, Sonic 2 is still a fantastic game and one I value right to this day. The game greatly improves upon Sonic 1 in many ways. The graphics are upgraded and look absolutely stunning for that era, and levels like the Casino Night Zone really stand out. The music is catchy as always and I will remember the Green Hill Zone theme until the day I die :P Gameplay is great, with sonic being a breeze to control, even using a keyboard. Level design is great with multiple paths to proceed through the levels. Some boss fights are tricky, and you will find yourself trying a few times until you get it right. However, you do have limited lives so if you do run out its game over, right back to the first level for you! The addition of your buddy Tails makes the game even more interesting as Tails helps defeat some enemies, but usually ends up dying many times (with no effect to Sonic) which can sometimes be quite funny, for example watching Tails run straight off a cliff! Sonic 2 is a true classic of the platforming genre along with Mario, and one that will always be close to my heart.
More fun to be had!Babelfish343 | Oct. 24, 2011 | Review of Sanctum: Killing Floor DLC
With this DLC, you can now place a Killing Floor in front of your enemies. Enemies who touch the floor will die and delivers significant damage. Add some more variety to the fantastic game Sanctum, and enjoy some great strategic use of the Killing Floor! Definitely worth the less than a dollar price tag!
Crazy fun!Babelfish343 | Oct. 24, 2011 | Review of Trackmania United Forever
There is no other such game as crazy and special as Trackmania. If you have played the free version Trackmania Nations or Sunrise you will be familiar with the huge tracks you race incredibly fast through, playing over and over again trying to shave a few seconds off your time to get that gold medal! The graphics are stunning, and multiplayer will have you hooked for ages! This version adds even more content to the mix with amazing additional cars and tracks, Fantastic game to play until Trackmania Canyon releases!
Awesome as expected!Babelfish343 | Oct. 24, 2011 | Review of Deus Ex: Human Revolution – The Missing Link
Like the base game, Deus Ex:HR Missing Link DLC is brings even more to the fantastic sci-fi world. The narrow hallways of the freight ship lead to some great stealth gameplay, and the story is truly compelling and will keep you glued to the screen for hours. The stealth augments are key in getting through the levels, though it is possible to go guns blazing, but would prove to be a fair bit more difficult.
Without revealing anything, it fills in a gap of the story in the original game, so if you have completed the main game or even come close to finishing it you need to pick up Missing Link!
It is a great addition to the Deus Ex world and is highly recommended!
Probably not worth itBabelfish343 | Oct. 24, 2011 | Review of Magicka: Watchtower DLC
A fairly plain-looking map, that is strangely uninteresting. Would be good for a couple of rounds with friends, but will not keep you interested for very long. Not worth it, considering there is better DLC you should spend your money on such as the Marshlands DLC.
"No, not that kind of party"Babelfish343 | Oct. 24, 2011 | Review of Magicka: Party Robes DLC
Continuing the humor of Magicka, these robes add a new look to your character, but is not quite necessary in terms of any gameplay changes. If you are a collector of Magicka DLC, it is a good pickup for the price!
Great map!Babelfish343 | Oct. 24, 2011 | Review of Magicka: Marshlands DLC
A great map for some great Magicka fun! This is like a swarm or horde mode with progressively harder waves of enemies approaching you from all around. Some good fun to be had with friends, and will keep you engaged for a while! Certainly worth the low price considering the great value you are receiving in this great Magicka DLC.
Not good, not badBabelfish343 | Oct. 24, 2011 | Review of Magicka: Frozen Lake DLC
This DLC is quite a disappointment, not adding very much to the Magicka experience. However, this map is decent and can be fun for a short while, but will not keep you engaged for very long. If you are a die-hard Magicka fan, it is decent for the price but do not expect too much.
Fantastic!Babelfish343 | Oct. 24, 2011 | Review of Tomb Raider: Underworld DNS
The graphics and gameplay are upgraded from Legend and Anniversary, and the textures and environments look amazing! There is a great variety in the levels throughout the game, and the shooting mechanics are less annoying than in the previous games. The story is as expected, but surprisingly engaging and keeps you playing. Sound design is excellent as well. Be aware that some of the puzzles are difficult to understand what the goal actually is, but usually by exploring around or using the guide from the menu it is revealed eventually. Fantastic game, a must have for Tomb Raider fans!
Lara is awesome as always!Babelfish343 | Oct. 24, 2011 | Review of Tomb Raider: Anniversary DNS
Coming from the original Tomb Raider games on Playstation I can safely say that Anniversary captures the amazing scenes of crumbling ruins and great scenery. While at heart a platformer, Tomb Raider Anniversary you also have guns at your disposal, though shooting isn't as accurate as you might always want. The only slight issues occur with the camera sometimes not rotating correctly and showing you a blocked view of Lara, which is annoying when trying to precariously make your way across a narrow ledge. Sound effects are decent, and graphics are great with Lara's character model and animations looking nice! If you are a fan of the Tomb Raider series, you owe it to yourself to get yourself this game too!
Best GTA of the series!Babelfish343 | Oct. 12, 2011 | Review of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas DNS
This game just had a certain vibe that GTAIV somehow lacked. The expansive world is absolutely stunning, and the missions are quite amusing for those times when you get tired of free-roaming, but that will be after quite a long time!
The story isn't really top-notch, but the voice acting is great and conveys the whimsical gangster world that Rockstar has presented us once again. You have parachutes this time around, and that makes for some epic action scenes of your choosing.
With the world in your hand, you can do quite almost anything you want to. Vehicles are numerous and varied, and the only downside to the graphics are some low-res textures, but unless you stop and look it's not noticeable.
The radio is as entertaining as ever, and there is some good choices of rap/hip-hop music to complement the tone of GTA San Andreas.
Overall a great game adult gamers should experience, and certainly worth the low price!
Funny game :DBabelfish343 | Oct. 12, 2011 | Review of Grand Theft Auto III DNS
Ahh GTA 3. My first introduction into the GTA franchise was picked up since I was amazed by the expansive open world which has seen continuation in many many games since. The main hook of GTA has always been the living breathing city to explore, and this games really showed it off! I was so amazed by the city that I never actually got onto the missions much at all! The graphics are a bit dated now, but still hold up and textures seem to pop-in a little but it is not too bad for an aging game. The music and voice acting is great, and funny too! Racing around the city in a sports car, jumping out and using a flamethrower on everything in sight NEVER gets old! Highly recommended if you love sandbox/open world games!
Brilliant bundle! Must have!Babelfish343 | Oct. 12, 2011 | Review of Dreamcast Collection
Honestly I bought this just for Space Channel 5 Part 2, but all the games are great choices especially if you played them back in the day on the Sega Dreamcast!
The standout titles are Sonic and Space Channel 5, but Bass Fishing and Crazy Taxi are fun casual games that you will also enjoy.
Highly recommended package for some crazy fun and good times, probably not at full price though!
Childhood <3Babelfish343 | Oct. 12, 2011 | Review of Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle
This game is kooky and fun, and also quite challenging! One of the gems of my childhood back on the SEGA Mega Drive, I played this game just for the laughs.
Versing a baboon in a game of paper, rock, scissors? Yes please! The majority of the game is platforming, with the help of some awesome stuff like a pogo stick.
The controls are a little weird, but you get used to it after playing for a while.
Oh and one other reason to buy Alex Kidd: He has EPIC sideburns :P
Brilliant!Babelfish343 | Oct. 12, 2011 | Review of Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition DNS
If you are a sci-fi junkie like me, this is a MUST PLAY!
Cyberpunk oozes from every inch of Deus Ex, and the story is intriguing. The voice acting and graphics were ahead of its time, and there are many gadgets to play with! There are many ways to approach the task at hand, whether it be go in guns blazing or using tactics or stealth, all of which are great fun!
A true PC gaming classic like the Half Life series, Deus Ex never fails to deliver on its story premise and sets you in a cyberpunk world William Gibson would be proud of!
GREAT technique!Babelfish343 | Oct. 12, 2011 | Review of SEGA Bass Fishing DNS
The voiceovers in this game are hilariously bad, and annoying too! Music is terribly generic. But lots of fun is be had while you try to catch fish and not break your fishing line! Obviously not a game for everyone, but if you are looking for some casual fun or a good way to pass some time, this is some great light hearted fun for everyone!
Great for nostalgic times!Babelfish343 | Oct. 12, 2011 | Review of Crazy Taxi DNS
If you ever played the game back on Dreamcast, you will understand immediately the fun to be had!
Just like Midtown Madness, you drive around a car with no respect to road rules and crash through anything that gets in your way! In Crazy Taxi, you have to pickup and drop-off customers as fast as possible, all while causing chaos and destruction in your path behind you and listening to a rocking soundtrack!
This game will have you laughing and driving like a maniac for ages! Awesome!
GTA-like fun!Babelfish343 | Oct. 12, 2011 | Review of Just Cause 2
A massive open world environment. Guns, cars, bikes, explosives and a hook that you can use to get around quickly along with parachuting! What a formula for a great game!
Unfortunately, the story fails to hold much water and the voice acting is not very good. But this game is one that you will spend most of your time exploring the expansive and vertical world, or grappling police with your hook and throwing them around!
The missions should you choose to complete them are all non-linear, so you can choose to do a mission whenever you like, and bail out if need be.
A huge improvement over the original and highly recommended if you like games in which you explore the world and have fun...just 'cause!
Fantastic!Babelfish343 | Oct. 12, 2011 | Review of Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing CAP
One sentence is all I need: If you love Mario Kart, buy this game!
Taking many characters from SEGA's franchises (also some unusual unheard of ones appear as well) and putting them against each other for some power-up fuelled racing is always a formula for great casual racing game. The visuals in this game are amazing, and the 24 game-based tracks are stunning and in my opinion even more interesting than Mario Kart's tracks. Textures, car models and environments are all bright and crisp especially in HD.
Music is quite nice too, using familiar music from the original game the racing track is from. Samba de Amigo is one memorable song that got stuck in my head for days!
The ONLY downside to this game is that the PC version does not have online play. However, you can play local split-screen but only if you have two different controllers (no sharing keyboard unfortunately)
My little sister took over my room in order to play Sonic and SEGA racing on my computer, and for that reason alone this game is one of my favourite racing games too :)
Absolutely stunning!Babelfish343 | Oct. 12, 2011 | Review of Deus Ex: Human Revolution
This game has been given divided reviews on many sites, but I am glad to say that it is amazing!
Graphics: Some textures lacking in detail, but overall stunning (and very yellow) styling, Renaissance-inspired clothing design and fantastic futuristic city with a nod to Blade Runner.
Gameplay: Stealth and gunning down enemies are both fun in their own right, and the non-linear paths to reach your objective leave some space for creative thinking and clever use of augmentations to figure out the best way. Augmentations (basically your super-powers) are wide and varied, and become very useful in later levels of the game.
Story: If you like sci-fi like Mass Effect, this game is a must buy for you! Great morality questions are raised in the intricate storyline, and you can make dialog choices yourself, which like in Mass Effect can be a lot of fun :P
Highly recommended for all sci-fi and action game fans!
funny little gameBabelfish343 | Oct. 12, 2011 | Review of City Bus
This is obviously not highly anticipated or a best seller, but provides some cheap thrills for when you are bored and there is no food in the fridge to keep you occupied.
You will probably appreciate the cartoony style graphics if you played games such as Micro-machines or Crazy Taxi, but the graphics are not really that pretty.
Overall the game is good in short bursts, it won't keep you hanging out for more however, but its a good buy considering the good price!
Memories....Babelfish343 | Oct. 12, 2011 | Review of Columns
Used to play this for so long on the SEGA Mega Drive! Fantastic Tetris-like game that will have you hooked for hours trying to complete the challenging levels!
The music is fantastic, and is visually simple but with its own "egyptian" flair. Really great game and still holds a part of my nostaligia :')
nice game!Babelfish343 | June 27, 2011 | Review of World of Goo
I love the design of this game, the music and visuals make me think of a Tim Burton movie every time i play :) The gameplay is soo much fun, and this is one of the best and most polished puzzle games i have tried recently. If you love having fun while playing with balls of goo, you must try this game out! Highly recommended for all puzzle fans!
great classic!Babelfish343 | June 27, 2011 | Review of Space Channel 5: Part 2 CAP
This game had me in fits of laughter! I love the original game, and this does the first game justice! if you love rhythm games, this is fantastic, and is set in a kooky spaceship setting. Purposely corny, and i love it for that! Think Parappa the Rapper in space :D Great game, highly recommend for the price!
not impressive :(Babelfish343 | June 27, 2011 | Review of Duke Nukem Forever
I am not a fan of the original game, so please do not read on if you loved it. The gameplay is very buggy, and the game looks like it was made about 6 years ago or so. Certain platforming parts are completely unnecessary and spoils the overall feel going for it. I must say that the humour shines in this game, if crude jokes are your kind of thing. The egocentric Duke is funny, however probably not as lovable as the game makes him out to be. The guitar music is entirely forgettable and generic. A good game if you are a Duke fan, otherwise i do not recommend this at all.
fantastic!Babelfish343 | June 27, 2011 | Review of Assassin's Creed 2
A fabulous game which improves greatly upon the superb original. The gameplay and visuals are much more slick in this sequel, and the story is just as fascinating as before. combat is much easier this time around, and the addition of a multiplayer adds a little something extra once you have completed the singleplayer story mode. Highly recommended for all gamers!!!
great gameBabelfish343 | June 27, 2011 | Review of Super Meat Boy
This game is a sort of one you could expect on a free flash site, except that it is much more polished. The gameplay mechanics are simple, but do the job. A major downside though is that this game......IS VERY HARD! It starts out ok, but unless you have alot of patience, i do not recommend this for you! You will die many many times trying to complete the challenging levels! Overall, great game and style, though a little too challenging for me!
great fascinating gameBabelfish343 | June 27, 2011 | Review of VVVVVV
This game is a great retro-throwback but feels new somehow. the visuals accompanied by the 8-bit old school music create a great feel to the game, and levels are quite interesting with one simple gameplay mechanic: the ability to shift gravity. I recommend this for anyone who likes old atari games and such, though some levels become VERY challenging!
Incredible!Babelfish343 | June 27, 2011 | Review of BioShock DNS
This game has one of the greatest atmospheres created. The story of the city of Rapture is enthralling, and it is one of the best thriller/shooter games around. The graphics are amazing and help to create the believable world that you play in. Sound design is also quite incredible, and the gameplay is unexected, with the addition of Plasmids (superpowers :P) to stop this game being just another generic shooter. Bioshock raises moral questions in your mind as you play, and you are really captivated. Great game, a must buy!
very good gameBabelfish343 | June 27, 2011 | Review of Mafia II dns
Mafia 2 improves alot upon the basis of the first game. The graphics look fantastic (especially on pc) and the atmosphere of the mafia era is very strong and you start to believe in the world you play in. Everything from the story, to music, to visual items is appropriate to the era, and you feel a bit like you are playing a GTA game but set in a past era. Overall, a great game and buy if you like games with great stories!
Could have been better, but has some good pointsBabelfish343 | June 25, 2011 | Review of Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days
This game improves upon the original with a great atmosphere and "shaky camera" effect, and in my opinion successfully creates the desired amount of realism for the dark, gritty setting of the crime-filled streets of Japan. The camera effects such as lens flare and the neon glow of streets lights looks amazing!
However, the shortcoming of this game is the gameplay. It is better than the original in some respects, but the AI is incredibly dumb, and most of the numerous cover-shoot sections of the game feel old and buggy. Shooting is not accurate at all, only improves later on in the game with the coming of better weapons.
Overall, this game is good at a low price or maybe a rent, but do not pay full price for this, or you may be disappointed. A great attempt at a fantastic looking game, but the gameplay needs to be fixed for this to nail the crime drama genre.
