Fantastic Game

DoktorZaius | June 13, 2013 | Review of The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead is a well-written, well-voiced and nicely animated game that hits you hard and never lets go.

You play as Lee, an interesting, intelligent character, and once you take the reigns it's largely up to you who he is going to be. Are you going to be ruthless, or compassionate? Are you hopeful, or cynical?

Before playing The Walking Dead, I had no experience with adventure games of this ilk, where you click on things in order to interact with characters and objects in the game world, and to advance the plot. While it's not the most exciting way to play a game, it works here because this game is ABOUT the characters and their journey, something that shines through here throughout.

The story features many interesting, likable characters along the way, some of whom will die. If there's one hard and fast rule in The Walking Dead universe, it's that you have to be ready at all times. Also, don't let yourself get trapped. And you should also always save your last bullet, just in case. Alright fine, so there's lots of rules in the Walking Dead verse, but the best way to figure them out is to go start surviving on your own. Good luck out there. You're going to need it.

One of the Best Games I've Ever Played

DoktorZaius | June 13, 2013 | Review of BioShock Infinite (NA)

I came to Bioshock Infinite as a franchise newbie, having never played Bioshock 1 or 2. But it doesn't matter, because the game has a fun, intuitive combat system that you can pick up and seemingly master within a few hours. Whether you're shooting enemies, meleeing them with a hook, or using magical "vigor" powers, the combat is smooth, fast and fun. On hard difficulty, the combat can be quite a challenge, and you'll have to be careful with what weapons/vigors you choose to spend your money on in order to level up. Best of all, the game allows you to play many different styles to win the same fight. I typically preferred to go with longer-ranged weapons, like the Carbine and Sniper Rifle, but due to limited ammo supplies, you'll end up using a little bit of everything before the game is over.

The main draw of the game, though, is the wonderful story. You play as a detective with a shady past who has taken on a mission to rescue a girl in order to repay a debt. Of course, the girl in question is also incredibly mysterious, and you're left with more questions as you proceed through the game. That's not a bad thing here, however, as you'll enjoy every minute along the way.
