Very Realistic and Brutal Multiplayer WWII FPS

HDread | Aug. 22, 2013 | Review of Rising Storm - PC

Brutal might be a bit of an understatement. This is very realistic, one shot typically kills, bullet drops, morale, no crosshairs, no HUD (for the most part), the works. This isn't like Call of Duty where run and gun is the name of the game. Coordination and tactics are typically necessary, which is also a bit of a flaw as playing with random people could be a bit of a bad time. Taking a slow approach, checking around corners, taking the high ground, suppression, team assaults, and accurately firing are almost completely VITAL to this game. Other players will be using these tactics so you need to be just as smart. Maps are Attack and Defend with Japan and the US switching roles depending on the map. Sometimes one side has an advantage over another but it usually is balanced. America can be extremely powerful with their flamethrower, it nearly breaks the game as a single man can clear a building in a matter of seconds. The Japanese in turn get Banzai rushes and the ability to set grenades as mines which is very useful for defense. Overall a very fun and engaging experience, the great voice acting of dying soldiers crying out for mercy is also a very cool and terrifying touch. However playing alone with unknown people can sometimes be a bit of a chore, as this game requires quite a bit of teamwork and coordination.
