A very B SkinJaxsin | April 23, 2013 | Review of Awesomenauts - Bumble Gnaw Skin
Bumble Gnaw has the quark to be a fan favorite, and his buzzing weedlings are truly fitting. The skin is really just a suit though, and Gnaw's spit isn't altered at all, even with perfect honey potential. His adorable buzzing wings also dont add any air time to his design. Still, seeing an enemy Gnaw bumbling about does make any fan of the space...thing, a little envious. A solid skin that could've generated a bit more buzz with a few more details.
Ominous Luminescent Fish/Old-Timey Pirate PlanktonJaxsin | April 23, 2013 | Review of Awesomenauts - Cap'n Vinnie and Seadog Spike DLC
With Pirate Vinnie shouting commands to his ghastly stead Spike, the criminal duo are taking their mischief above the sea. Spike Dive enemies off the plank and over pronounce your R's to your heart's content! The first skin i personally bought, and i'll never go back! Make everyday the day your opponent almost caught Captain Vinnie and Seadog Spike!
You Can't Cage this Butterfly!Jaxsin | April 23, 2013 | Review of Awesomenauts - Kage Genji
The Space Butterfly condones His favorite Pupae servant to change his meek cloth into a beautiful Entin robe. His small fairy wand has been upgraded to the most glorious staff, that he uses to uphold his virtues and defend his teammates . And just look plain good while doing it. Put butterflies in the stomachs of cocooned as they emerge to at the many feet of this wonderfully clad hero! A must have for anyone who plays Genji often, occasionally, or randoms and may possibly get Genji!
Better than your average Robot!Jaxsin | April 23, 2013 | Review of Awesomenauts - Bionic Raelynn
While mech suits aren't much of a stretch for a universe set in a space traveling future, Bionic Raelynn's design manages to be smooth, intimidating and adorable all at the same time. The added particle effects to her boots and target lock on for her sniper round out her toy-like design nicely, making this skin a fantastic alternative to her robust "Ravishing Raelynn" skin. A personal favorite, and well worth the solar.
Reference PrefernceJaxsin | April 23, 2013 | Review of Awesomenauts - Coco McFly
Back to the Future is a beautiful cult classic, and while a nod to it in any game shouldn't come as a surprise, the male reprising Coco is rather forced. If you are a dedicated fan of the movies, this skin was (literally) made for you to fly throughout the galaxy!
Tone down the Derp, Rev up the Engine!Jaxsin | April 23, 2013 | Review of Awesomenauts - Hot Rod Derpl Skin
When it comes to Hot Rod Derpl, there is really nothing to play up. If you enjoy playing one of the most quirky 'Nauts in the cast, the next time you are playing as your boring standard skin Derpl, imagine this instead: Skull nukes, flaming biker helmeted holocats, giant fuming exhaust pipes, beautiful fire custom paint and 8 ball dice snares. Drive the Coco's and Rae's crazy with this upgrade and drive to victory in style!
Voltar's Got Everyone Stayin' AliveJaxsin | April 23, 2013 | Review of Awesomenauts - Disco Voltar Skin
When the healbots radiance is glowing upon you, humming "I Will Survive" wasn't much of a stretch with Voltar's normal skin. But the mad scientists conversion to a distributor of funk takes it one step forward. Not only do Voltar and his drones look ready to party, but when you or your teammates stand in the healing glow, a wonderfully catchy disco tune will pump you back up for the fight. Don't pass up this delightful skin, and don't stop the music!
Quirky, Smooth, Multiplayer with amazing developer supportJaxsin | April 22, 2013 | Review of Awesomenauts
When it comes to Awesomenauts, everything the game should do well, it does flawlessly. The Saturday morning cartoon art style holds wonderful hidden quarks in the 4 beautiful levels available while the music provides an upbeat sense of emergency in the ever present war time. The characters hold unique personalities, abilities, upgrades and wonderful alternative skins that the developers often look to the fans to make/approve. The game has a tightly knit community, constant updates to keep gameplay balanced and is easy enough to pick up, yet hard to master.
The game is perfect for devoting a competitive mindset to, or picking up a game in a spare half hour with some friends. The only thing preventing the game from being a perfect 10/10 is the reliance on other people. Awesomenauts has no single player mode to better get to understand your favorite characters, and while the matchmaking system is good for what it is, if you go into a game alone you may want to check out some forums and groups before you charge into a 3v1 battle with automated bots as your teammates. However, the people playing share your need for teammates, and you can quickly find a roster of ingame friends to fight by your side, letting you leanr new characters and combinations!
