Great Combat, passable story

Kelzhas | Oct. 6, 2013 | Review of Darksiders II

This game has some of the most fun combat i have ever tried, with tons of variety and very slick controls. Evey hit has impact, and when you pull of a perfect fight, there are few things more rewarding. However the story is nothing to brag about. Its pretty straightforward, you are Death, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and you are on a quest to prove your brother, Wars, innocence for starting the end of the world prematurely. After that, you basicly go from one place to the next, doing various fetch quests, and pulling some levers, as i said, nothing spectacular. But its the combat and puzzle elements that keep me going, and i would reccomend this game, to anyone who is a fan of hack and slash, mixed with a little platforming, Prince of Persia style.

Unprecedented Succes

Kelzhas | Sept. 29, 2013 | Review of The Witcher II: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition

This game is in my opinion flawless. The combat system is engaging and fun, with tons of variety in the way that you approach it. The story is well told, and makes sure that it is you who tells it, since every single action you take, is going to have consequences later on in the game. The writing is stellar, and the voice acting, even though being the weakest link in the game, still is very well executed. If there has ever been a game that i would recomend. this would be the one, with its rich backstory, gorgeous visuals, attention to detail and mature approach to the general themes of the game.

10/10 must play!

Fantastic, but glitchy

Kelzhas | Aug. 31, 2013 | Review of Fallout 3

This is one of the best games out there, and nearly everything about it is perfect in my opinion.

The main story-line is nothing spectacular, but its the hundreds of side quests that really tells the great storys. Want to help a man who has turned into a tree killing himself, or do you help him grow in order to please the crazy cult worshipping him? This is just one example out of hundreds, and many of them are far more interesting, and have far more depth than the before mentioned side quest.

The gameplay is a little slow, but in my opinion it was just right, and really just fit very well with the overall feel of the game. You have to pick your shots carefully, since the ammo supply (atleast in the beginning) is very limited, but packs enough of a punch so that every shot has impact.

The grapichs are very good, atleast when it comes to the enviornment and different beast of The Wasteland, but the charachter models are a little far behind, even for its time. But since most of your time is spent out in the Waste, this only becomes a minor anoyance.

There are a lot of bugs in this game, and a few of them can be pottentialy game breaking, if you do not use console commands, but since most of the bugs just come down to a few silly ragdolls, and some crashes every now and then, it wont detract too much from the overall score.

A unique experience

Kelzhas | Aug. 20, 2013 | Review of LA Noire

L.A. Noire is a very unique game. The detective mechanics within the game, is something never before seen in a video game, and i would wish that more games would follow in its footsteps. The game has the most realistic in game face movement, that have evver been seen before, and the voice acting is about as perfect as it gets.

The story is also very engaging, and the rare shootouts that do occur, are brutal enough to keep you in this grim world, despite some of the "gamey" aspects of it, like auto aim, and bad sound design that the guns create.

Its a good game, not with much replay value however, and the ending kinda left me wanting more, but it is an enjoyable ride nontheless, so i would wholeheartedly recommend it.

Feel the Payne

Kelzhas | Aug. 19, 2013 | Review of Max Payne 3

This game was one of 2012's very best. It had fun gunplay, astounding grapichs and pitch prefect story telling. The way that Max himself is portrayed, really helps you to connect with him and the characters around him, and makes the entire "shoot 500 bad guys without a scratch", just a little more beliveable.

One of my only major gripes with the game, is that on your second playthrough, are forced to watch, almost ALL the cinematics once more, even though you just want the gameplay this time around. I understand that this is unavoidable since a game of this detail would have massive load times otherwise, but i feelt that it should be mentioned.

Other than that, it is a game i can wholeheartedly recommend, and i would say that anyone who appreciates a good story in a video game, should check it out immediately.

A really good time

Kelzhas | Aug. 18, 2013 | Review of Don't Starve

Truth be told, the only reason that i bought this game to begin with, was because of the really impressive art-style, that the game had. I didn't know what the premise was, the gamepaly, or if there was a story to it, and after having played it for 20+ hours, i can safely say it was a wise decision not to research anything about the game, prior to playing it.

This is one of those games, where you basicly have to figure out everything yourself, and that is just the way i like it, there isn't much story to speak of, the gameplay is exstremely simplistic, and the art direction is stellar. But the thing that makes you wanna play it, is the endless amount of new stuff to see, and things to learn, all the way from finding out how to build an axe, to suddenly finding out that there is a swamp in the randomly generated level you are in.

I wont go into detail about anything in the game, since it is one you just gotta play for yourself, until there are no more secrets to discover.

Play It!

Very good, but holds itself back

Kelzhas | July 6, 2013 | Review of Tomb Raider

While playing through Tom Raider, i keept thinking how excited i was to replay it afterwards, and thinking what i would do differently once done with my first playthrough. Sandly after finishing it, i realized that there actually was not much of an insentive to do so, the reason being that i would not actually get a different experience from doing so. It's a very good game on the first go, with some good gameplay mechanics and a fitting story, but in my opinion it was a little too short, even after i had collected most of the collectibles i had barely spent 13 hours in the game, and after having paid full price for it, i did not feel that 50 euros was a fair price for such a short game. And even though there is a multiplayer whith the game, it was not able to hold my attention for more than a few hours, since it was a way too standard 3rd-person multiplayer shooter, lacking of anything that makes it really stand out from others.

A good game, but certainly not the best, however i would still recomend it for the story, and the way it makes you feel like you really are stranded, on an island, without ant hope of getting away any time soon.

8 out of 10.
