Streamlined to perfection.

LeBart | Aug. 13, 2011 | Review of Sid Meier's Civilization® V

I know a lot of people hate the very concept of streamlining, but that's only because many developers who try to streamline their games do it poorly, and sacrifice the depth of the mechanics in the name of better UI. If done right on the other hand, you end up with a game that's less inpenetrable for newcomers, but maintains its feel and depth for the fans of the series. Civilization V is a great example of streamlining done right. If feels like a Civilization game but it's also much easier to wrap your mind around the different concepts, and just to make stuff happen ! You do lose some micro managment in the process, so hardcore fans out there will probably stick to Civ IV, but it's still a superb effort.
