One of the best games ive playedPh8360 | Nov. 30, 2013 | Review of Portal
A lot of the time, once a sequel is released you can skip the original game. This has historically been especially true of puzzle games. Portal does not follow this trend. While the second game adds many inarguably awesome features, Portal in and of itself still provides an extremely solid gameplay experience, with interesting and thought provoking puzzles. Most significantly, this game has one of the most compelling and interestingly presented stories I have ever experienced in a videogame. The first time I played Portal I finished it in a single sitting. That isn’t because it’s a short game (though it isn’t the longest), rather because the excellent storytelling made it impossible for me to leave the game. If you like puzzle games, get this. If you like games with incredible storytelling, this is the game you need.
Fun medieval team based slashfestPh8360 | Nov. 30, 2013 | Review of Chivalry: Medieval Warfare
Chivalry is fun. There is no doubt that, when it works, chivalry has been some of the most fun I have had in a game of its type. However (and I’m not sure if this is necessarily a failing of the game itself) if you are playing with any amount of lag, the game becomes nigh unplayable due to the reactionary nature of the combat. Despite this, it’s hard to deny the appeal of the formula they present here, combining objectives reminiscent of team fortress 2 with mechanics satisfyingly similar to Pirates Versus Knights 2 (a mod beloved by my game group). Overall, a satisfying game experience, suffering from the same problems as any online game, albeit occasionally more noticeable.
One of the best superhero series availablePh8360 | Nov. 30, 2013 | Review of Batman Arkham City: Game of the Year
Batman arkham city is a fantastic game, simultaneously capturing the strongest elements of almost every incarnation of the caped crusader, and then crafting them around solid, fun, gameplay. The story is solid, a little less so than Arkham Asylum, but better than you would typically find in a sequel. If you have played Asylum, all the best combat features are back, but the open world exploration has been expanded dramatically, as we finally get to take the worlds greatest detective to his streets. Overall, one of the best superhero games I have ever played, and a solid game in its own right, which is definitely worth a look for fans of batman or fans of games
