Quite Generic

Reinhaert | July 7, 2013 | Review of 8Bit Adventures The Forgotten Journey - PC

As generic as they come, I'm afraid. The game plays on nostalgia and a few mild references to known titles, but it doesn't go much farther than that. The models, even for 8-bit, are very uninspired, the world looks empty and barren and it feels like it's made to not satisfy anyone, even if you're a retro gamer. It tries, but fails. Fighting is traditional turn-based combat with very unsatisfying graphic response. Stay away unless you're the most die-hard fan of RPG ever. It doesn't bring back memories of the golden days of 8-bit gaming as much as it would like to.

A surprise indeed

JRPGs are becoming a rarity nowadays. A good friend says it well: it's become a niche genre. I'm glad things like this still pop up. The fighting mechanics are good, even if they don't look very amazing and while the dungeoning can be a bit... annoying at the start, don't give up on it. It comes back and hits you in the face with amazing vigor.
