Cry like a Banshee- Brothers edition

Shanti | Feb. 10, 2014 | Review of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons

Synopsis: Stupid game, made me cry like a banshee for 10 minutes at the end. All I ever did was play you and love you...

Actual review: This is one of those 'love it/hate it' works where everything will click completely, coherently and climactically or alternatively leave you befuddled. As mentioned on the stern warning although inaccurately- A controller is highly recommended but not absolutely required. The story is mute in terms of words or speech intentionally, it is more about seeing, imagining and feeling. In that respect it is more like a favourite children's book or even a Gabriel Garcia novel- the details and sub text filled by your mind rather than forced upon you. It is allegorical not metaphorical, you and your gaming friend will never agree to what anything means but in a way both of you will be correct. In terms of puzzle-solving it is not really noteworthy which is completely fine because you will not like or dislike the game for that aspect. It is simply there. The use of force feedback/vibration is done in a way to add depth to the gameplay in certain areas where it wants you to feel what is happening. Which is why a gamepad is sort of essential to get the full experience™

There is no point discussing the story- what does or does not happen, and so I will not. It is better to talk about what is exciting about it instead. It is heartening to see a conscious move to use games as an innovative platform of story telling, whether the story be good, bad or ugly. This is a good thing and therefore the game is wholeheartedly unrecommended.

Note: Sorry if this came off pretentious. I actually turned off my PC after finishing it and did not want to speak to anyone for a while and wrote this right after.

Point & click your way back... to back to the future

Shanti | Nov. 19, 2013 | Review of Back to the Future: The Game

Another hilarious story driven experience from Tell-Tale, this is an extension/sequel to the Movie trilogy, so relax nothing canon is disturbed :) Doc has vanished and it's upto you (Marty Mcfly) the protagonist of the entire BTTF franchise to solve this perplexing conundrum! Expect the old rivalries, romances and relationships to keep you interested while you click your way through this wonderful adventure.

Fun - Delivered!

Shanti | Nov. 17, 2013 | Review of Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed

For all those who do not have the pleasure of a Nintendo or prefer to game on the PC, this is as serious (or as silly!) a cart racer you will get. Incredibly satisfying, fun and hilarious in multi-player and single-player. The last update fixed the infinite dash exploit/bug so they do still pay attention to the competitive aspect of the game which is great.

Mature RPG!

Shanti | Nov. 4, 2013 | Review of The Witcher II: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition

This is definitely not one for the kiddies to play at leisure, there are numerous mature topics and scenes delved upon. The combat can seem very complex at first but will become fluid once you're a little further into the game. With the Enhanced edition you even get the tutorial, which just shows how much the company is willing to listen to customers and deliver free dlc. Visually stunning and a benchmark to consider all graphic intensive games by, the story and minor details are very intriguing and make for a comprehensive and gratifying RPG experience.
Any RPG fan needs to play this (while counting down the days to Witcher 3).

Scribblenauts + DC comics - Match made in heaven!

Shanti | Nov. 4, 2013 | Review of Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure

Not quite, there is no evolution in terms of gameplay for PC gamers. While the inclusion of super heroes/villains makes it seem very interesting their is a lot missing from the full DC universe. I would not go so far as to say this is a cash-in, it is still quite an enjoyable game but I expected more from this. One great thing is the biographies you can read on all the DC characters and of course steam workshop. For a Scribblenauts fan this is surely a must-buy.

Fun little game

Shanti | Sept. 12, 2013 | Review of Magicka: Collection

...with a lot of DLC, mainly for costumes (different stats/bonuses). A cutesy co-op game which will surely bring you enjoyment for however long it takes to get buggy. If you can avoid the bugs for co-op, you're in a for a real gameplay treat. The Greenman bundle includes a few campaign DLC as well, so enjoy the vibrant colours of your custom Ice/Shock/Light spell attack all the way in Vietnam. That is a really unique feature: you can 'make' new spell attacks/chain which means no two wizards will practise Magicka the same way.

A terrifying experience

Shanti | Sept. 9, 2013 | Review of Dead Space (NA)

This game is NOT for the weak hearted! Be warned :P I can't describe how brilliant this game is for any horror/action fan. The best part of any horror game/movie/series is the build-up and wow does this deliver that. For someone like me who goes at a slow pace looking into every nook & cranny, this is our nexus: randomly placed scribbles which add so much to the atmosphere, carefully laid doodads (bodies, items) which all tell a silent story of their own, and the eerie voices singing sweet lullabies which will chill you to the very bone. The combat deserves praise on its own: Innovative mechanics of decapitation and dismembering utilising an awesome physics engine so that every body part has its own animation making the enemy specifically weaker for that part (cut the arms and it will still come at you with a wide open jaw ready to gnaw you to shreds). Varied enemies each with their own mechanics and an ammo conservation approach make combat always new & refreshing. Know which weapon to use when and where. Add in special modules of Tele-kiinesis and Stasis, for even more varied combat.
All of this is done in a very intuitive manner, there is no huge wall of information thrust on you, you learn as and when you need to learn while doing it. Aside from combat there are numerous other mission specific mechanics, from Vacuum oxygen aided combat to using Ship defense cannons and not to forget Zero-gravity basketball, you will never feel repetitiveness.
The only downside is some PC porting related issues which can be solved easily, but still lower the score for objectiveness :)

Another Hit Pack!

Shanti | Sept. 9, 2013 | Review of SEGA Action Pack

Alpha protocol is a very nuanced game, which gave inspiration to many more like Deus Ex HR. It deserves a playthrough from any serious gamer willing to forgive its minor faults :)
Condemned CO is a cult classic horror game, even the staunchest of men will quiver playing it alone, and in the dark (for the best atmosphere).
If you saw the movie Alien vs Predator, Merry Xmas! This will immerse you in the rich storyline from the get go. Three completely different campaigns will make you see each faction's viewpoint beautifully. With Steam cloud and Leaderboards, you'll get immense value and fun from the Multiplayer. Play as Aliens, Marines, or Predators completely your way.
Binary domain was a game I enjoyed but let's say it was an acquired taste. You need to go through the horrible and long tutorial to get to the good part, but it's worth it. This isn't Mass effect, but its a really nice Action/Cover shooter in its own right, with limited RPG elements. The Voice command system is very innovative and quite bug-free, or you can use a shortcut to assign pre-set commands, so don't worry if you don't like using Voice. The story is really original and interesting as well. Multiplayer is a little lackluster.
All in all, another great value pack on sale right now! So don't wait :)

Amazing pack at Amazing price!

Shanti | Sept. 6, 2013 | Review of Dragon Age 2 & Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Bundle (NA)

GMG delivers again :) Cheapest price you will find anywhere. Now about the games themselves- Dragon Age Origins Ultimate edition: It's hard to explain it, but this game will be the best experience you will have playing a game ever! You'll fall in love with the characters (Morrigan <3), you'll immerse yourself in the quests (Yes, they matter!), get moved by the story from start to finish. And you'll love the combat. The ultimate edition includes ALL the DLC so its the complete experience. The only thing missing are the promo DLCs which you can get free from biowares social site using your GMG Origin key.
Dragon Age II: Many were disappointed with this sequel because it changed so much and delivered to little. They made it a little easier difficulty and made it more action oriented and not as tactical as Origins. It is still a very enjoyable game, and much better or on par with a lot of famous AAA games out there. But, it still brings down my rating from 99 to 92.

Short but not so sweet

Shanti | Aug. 24, 2013 | Review of Remember Me

I really wanted this game to be good. A female hero in a futuristic setting of Paris, a really different combat system of Pressens, something like combos which you unlock. However, the design and setting of the game as good as they may be never come to fruition. Very clunky controls for keyboard on PC, FoV (Field of view) being very low, very linear gameplay (Do X -> Do Y there is no other way) leaves a bitter taste especially for PC users. I hope they learn from this game and make a sequel which goes on to be excellent and successful.

The franchise you need? Buy it from here

Shanti | Aug. 19, 2013 | Review of Complete GTA Bundle

The pack includes GTA 1 & 2 which are not available on Steam store any more! Unlike other sellers you get ALL Steam keys here, so be assured that you can add these to your Steam client! You will spend upto 30 hours on GTA III, SA, Vice City, IV, EFLC each! That's incredible value for a complete franchise pack. The games mentioned are still graphically and aesthetically appealing, but the best part is their stories which are intriguing and will certainly entertain you all the way! I would say the only weak link would be GTA IV base game in terms of that, but it really isn't as bad as people say (be warned of PC porting problems however). All in all, completely worth it!

PC port worth the wait !

Shanti | July 20, 2013 | Review of Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition

This is one of the best Mortal Kombat games no doubt, the port to PC took a few years but it is completely worth it. Plays beautifully on both my college laptop and my home PC. About the gameplay, the single player experience is awesome I love that they brought in all the old characters to make the title "Komplete Edition" very true. It covers the whole history of Mortal Kombat universe, so new players can get into the lore easily as well and old players can appreciate the nostalgia. Multi player is slightly wonky and the only reason why I won't give it 90+ rating. You can only play against people in your area I think, which is sort of a dated approach to multi player, and makes matchmaking slower for people like me who don't have fixed hours.

Overall: Would I recommend it? "Kompletely"
