Lara's back!Spence1115 | April 27, 2013 | Review of Tomb Raider (March 2013)
OK, so firstly, why are you reading this? You could be playing this! In fact, so could I, and I wish I was! But anyway.
This is a great game. Yes, I can understand the comparisons to Uncharted, because it does have an Uncharted feel to the set pieces. But I don't understand the criticisms that you may have heard such as 'oh but she doesn't raid any tombs'. Nonsense, there's loads of tombs for her to raid. Yes, they're optional, but if you played it, you'd understand why in this case her first priority isn't to raid tombs. Within the first thirty seconds her ship has crashed and she's fighting to survive after being captured (I don't think the opening cutscene counts as spoilers), and it carries on with the same approach of 'these people are trying to kill me, let's go', and so the fact that the main story doesn't force you into the tombs makes sense, and it doesn't mean you can't do the many tombs anyway.
There's still a lot of puzzles, there's a story involving some ancient mythology, there's animals, there's running-jumping-climbing-swinging-falling-swimming. It's Tomb Raider, and it's brilliant. Buy it now. At the time of writing its £15, you'd be a fool not to buy it.
Game of the Year so farSpence1115 | April 27, 2013 | Review of BioShock Infinite Post
OK, played and completed this, and am waiting to have the time to go back through again.
Brilliant game. It's beautiful, the story is wonderful, it's incredibly immersive, the music will make you want the soundtrack.
It's definitely an improvement on Bioshock 2. Better than Bioshock though? I don't know. I'd say overall its as good, as it doesn't have the same drag that the first game experienced towards the end, but the story may not be as good. Better ending though. Overall about the same I guess. The story gives you plenty to discuss as well, which is excellent.
