The Wrath of WarSubj3ctLambda | Feb. 10, 2014 | Review of Darksiders
Darksiders has you play WAR - one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse! You suddenly find yourself summoned to bring about the Apocalypse (because the seven seals have supposedly been broken)! Only strange thing is that your brothers have not been summoned alongside you, and all seals were apparently not broken! Now War appears guilty of starting the Apocalypse by himself, and his legendary wrath does not help his case! To prove his innocence, he must restore the balance that has been lost! He must fight both forces of Heaven and Hell all by himself during his epic quest and may find allies in the unlikeliest of places! The story of this game is great, and War makes a great protagonist! Players will start out with a deliberately weakened War who must now regain his former powers by accumulating souls, which are the game's currency! The combat is quick and fluid and mainly designed around War's blade Chaoseater, aprt from the Scythe and Tremor Gauntlet! Did I mention there's also Ruin...War's horse?!!! Graphics are also pretty good and only rarely did I suffer from low framerates! Enemies are also quite varied and you will have to dodge and attack with good timing to beat some of them! However, damage them enough and you can finish them off with the Chaoseater! Voice acting is also well done with a variety of characters! Overall this is quite a great game, insta-buy if at a discount! Not to mention you play War's brrother DEATH in the sequel!!!
Brutal, yet interesting!Subj3ctLambda | Jan. 28, 2014 | Review of Don't Starve
You'll find Don't Starve to be a fine game, especially you're a fan of the genre! If you have an urge to struggle against the elements, live off the land, scavenge, salvage and craft useful items out of nothing, then this is certainly a game for you! However, this game forces you to be on your toes pretty much from the beginning of every adventure! You suddenly appear in this strange world and the only tip you get from a mysterious gentleman is "find something to eat before dark", before he disappears! Then you're on your own! There are so many ways to die in this game, that there is a morgue section in the main menu where all your playthroughs are listed with the cause of death! Speaking of death.......once you die, the game ends and you get experience based on the number of days you survived! This goes towards unlocking new characters with their own pros and cons! All in all, this is a really fun game with the random elements and various characters keeping it interesting! Not to mention the continuous support it gets with updates! Must buy for survival game fans!
Entertaining game requiring a bit of strategy!Subj3ctLambda | Jan. 4, 2014 | Review of Super Sanctum TD
When I bought this game, I had no idea I would sing so many hours into it! This tower defense game requires you to defend your reactors from enemies which may be air or land based! Their path is shown to you and you can lengthen it by putting obstacles or redirect it to form a maze with you r defensive towers along the walls! Buildings may be of energy type(rays, slowing particles) or physical type(bombs, bullets)! Along with buildings are your skills which are powers that can be used pretty much anywhere on the map and have a recharge time! To put it simply, you must transform the enemy's designated path from A walk in the park, to an eternity of a hellish maze! Trust me, it's quite satistying when you beat a tricky map! This is where Sanctum began, so I suggest buying it if you are a Sanctum fan! And even if you're not!
Amazing and moving experience!Subj3ctLambda | Jan. 4, 2014 | Review of The Walking Dead
The Walking Dead truly surprised me, as I found myself sucked into this "Walker" infested world and not wanting to leave! The main reason I can give is the development of the characters, As Lee, our protagonist, journeys through the game, he meets many people - all survivors just like him! However, there is a certain relationship maintained between Lee and the others, and the slightest error of words could turn things sour! "Loyalty" may be thrown around a lot in the game! There may come a time you need aid, and the number of friends you have may matter! Your decisions not only have the ability to piss people off, but also cost their lives! Even though the Zombies are the enemies here, you will be surprised how many of the crew are killed by the living! The game at times may feel like a movie with the number of cutscenes! But the thing that moved me the most in this game was Lee's relationship with Clementine! She will be at your side pretty much the whole game, so you will be put into difficult situations when she asks you about your family, your dark past, the fate of her parents, the act of killing and other difficult questions! Clementine will remember what you say and it may be apparent in Season 2(the sequel)! All I can say is, just buy it! You will truly regret not playing such a wonderful game!
New perspectives.Subj3ctLambda | Jan. 4, 2014 | Review of The Walking Dead: 400 Days
This DLC was interesting in the sense that you could see how other people, besides Lee and the gang, were trying to cope with this messed up situation! You play as five different people with their own unique experiences! Consequences of the base game may be seen! You may see some familiar faces! Strangest of all, is that some npc's seem to be involved in 2-3 of the stories, so technically you get their perspective as well! Finally, your decisions made at the end of each chapter will affect the ending(400 days after the outbreak)! Of course it does.....it's The Walking Dead!!!
Interesting and Fun ExperienceSubj3ctLambda | Jan. 4, 2014 | Review of Nihilumbra
Nihilumbra is basically about a "piece" of the vast empty void! This piece breaks off and that's when the narrator says "You are Born", This may refer to his birth, but is now also his name! The game basically shows Born, a piece of the void, escaping it and discovering the world with all its colours! Interesting to Born since he himself, is by definition-nothingness, therefore black! He comes across various colours throughout his journey and when he comes into contact with them, they change him and give him abilities! He must use these abilities to fight other hostile pieces of the void, and escape the void itself! However, I must mention here that your first playthrough of the gamr may feel too easy! That's because it is basically a tutorial for "Void mode"!
When you beat the game once and unlock Void mode..........that's when the real fun begins!
Where the Payne Begins!Subj3ctLambda | Oct. 3, 2013 | Review of Max Payne
Max Payne is in my opinion, a masterpiece with its gripping storyline involving Max Payne, left widowed and childless because of an attack on his house by Valkyr junkies! Max looks for leads and 3 yrs later finds them. After the unfortunate death of his friend and fellow detective Alex, Max ties the Italian Mafia to the crime.
From there, Max goes up the food chain from small fries to the Big Fish, to uncover a huge secret and the reason for his family's death! This game shows you what happens when you cross a man with nothing left to lose! Max's phenomenal bodycount throughout the game shows just how desperate he is to get to the bottom of it!
Even after all these years, Max Payne is still very much enjoyable! So any unfortunate soul who hasn't yet tried it, should get it now, play it and get sucked into the world of Max Payne!
Innocence Lost...Poor IsaacSubj3ctLambda | Oct. 3, 2013 | Review of The Binding of Isaac
Basically, this game is an extremely fun game to play coming from Edmund McMillan(Super Meat Boy). Musical score is great which plays according to the level Isaac is on and changes in Boss Fights to a faster track to get you pumped up! The gameplay revolves around survival where you try to make Isaac more powerful by finding/buying certain collectibles which will stay with him throughout that particular playthrough! Isaac's primary mode of attack is "tear drops"! Yes..that's right! Also, if you die you have to start from the beginning! Like a 2D Dark Souls!
The enemies are plentiful and of great variety! They may be ranged ,close contact, stationary, moving, homing in on the player and such combinations! Certain collectibles may increase Isaac's Health, Damage, Speed and other attributes...and some may even decrease them! You must basically kill every enemy in the room to open any exits which lead to other rooms! You must find your way to the Boss room and defeat the boss in order to progress to the next level below!
The game looks very cartoony, yet has a horror theme with plenty of its mutated/diseased enemies! it makes many references to The Bible as well as to Edmund McMillan's previous games like Super Meat Boy! The game even hints at Isaac's own issues with parental negligence, bullying, fear of falls etc! Overall, it has a deeper, darker meaning hidden beneath the surface! I urge you to find out for yourself!!!
The Bat ReturnsSubj3ctLambda | Oct. 3, 2013 | Review of Batman Arkham City: Game of the Year
Yet again Rocksteady studios doesn't disappoint, with another polished product of superlative quality! Batman Arkham City, features a cordoned off area of Gotham that is used as a maximum security penitentiary! As in Arkham asylum, the worst of the worst are all in one place locked up tight, safe from the citizens of Gotham! You'll see cameos from some familiar baddies from the Asylum....and if you're perceptive enough, you'll see someone in the distance...watching you!!!
The graphics are even better than that of Arkham Asylum along with the combat mechanics which are as fluid as ever! Arkham City is mainly old tenement buildings which means, plenty of ledges for Batman to use!
With respect to the allies and villains, you'll meet a "feline" seductress, a "bird-like" man, a "split" individual, a very "cold" gentleman and a rather "strange" warden that runs the place! Oh....and don't forget, The Joker who's suffering from the after effects of something he "used" back on Arkham island!
Batman will again prove why he is the world's greatest detective..or rather you will, by solving various puzzles throughout the map!!! He is yet again trapped in an area with the absolute worst scum of the earth! How will he get out of this one??? You'll be surprised how it all ends!!!
Beware of The BatSubj3ctLambda | Sept. 28, 2013 | Review of Batman: Arkham Asylum Game of the Year
This game is truly a game that Batman fans will love! Rocksteady Studios have done a marvelous job of making a complete, polished game! The gadgets you can use and the number of ways you can use them is mind boggling! The combat mechanics are quite simple once you get used to it, and encourages you to maintain momentum via combos which accumulate with the number of hits on enemies! The game also has an XP system which you can use to upgrade the effectiveness of your gadgets and your Batsuit! XP can be gained by finding various secrets hidden around Arkham Island, achieving Combos, investigating clues etc. Since Batman is known as the World's Greatest Detective, much investigating can be done which is fun! The entire island itself is divided into about a handful of sectors and Batman can move freely with his grapnel gun as long as there are ledges or gargoyles! Not to mention that Arkham Asylum is where all of Batman's enemies are locked up, especially The Joker who is at the center of it all! Can Batman truly face all his foes at once?! Will he prevail or perish in this insane hellhole? Find out for yourselves! You won't be disappointed, I guarantee you!
