UltimateSean | Oct. 31, 2013 | Review of Bastion Cap

Bastion packs an incredible amount of beauty into a gaming experience. From the clean-cut, colorful graphics to the amazing narrative, this game was appealing in both sight and sound. The levels are full of life and beautifully designed. Story is interesting and keeps one immersed in the game, and the narrator is priceless. I wish all my games had the same narrator.

I like all kinds of games, but I can see how fans of action might not be too into this game. The focus is on the art and the story. Although there is some awesome customization and diversity of enemies, the combat is quite easy and slightly repetitive. It's pretty to look at though. There are idols that allow you to make the game more challenging, however.

All this said, Bastion is easily one of the best games produced in the last few years.

Great Game

UltimateSean | Oct. 30, 2013 | Review of The Darkness II

The Darkness II is one of my personal favorites. The story is interesting and there are some surprising twists. The graphics complement the gameplay, and I even had great success running the game on older hardware. Everything about this game was enjoyable, from the loading screen monologues that revealed Jackie's character to the bloody combat. Combat is quite versatile, with the ability to use both guns and the Darkness(seen in the trailer and pictures as 2 snake-like beings) to annihilate enemies. The Darkness can be used in creative ways to take out hostiles, and the customization of skills definitely added to the experience.

This is a game that I would, and have played over again. My only problem with the game is its length. It was relatively short, with the story mode taking no longer than about 7 hours on the first play through. The game does provide secondary content that adds a few hours or so of play, but all together a very short experience.

The atmosphere and mechanics of this game left a lasting impression on me, I only wish it was a bit longer.
