Insmouth is not for strangers

VaderJacobs | Nov. 13, 2013 | Review of Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth

This is probably the best Lovercraftian game out today. The graphics are pretty good, the mechanics and gameplay, it's just like you would want them. The game itself isn't actually scary, it has it's freaky moments but you can't compare them to the ones in silent hill or resident evil. The story is really good and it's also the game's strongest point. Cracking the safes could be tricky but it's possible. Too bad this game has a HUGE flaw in the pc version and it's not a funny one and you will need the internet to get through it. Here's the problem: (Spoiler) On the big navy ship you will have to shoot on the coast with the cannon. You should see some lights there and aim at those but you can't see them in the pc version which makes it really difficult to hit the right spots. The internet has a "map" that gives you the exact coordinates on where the cannon has to be positioned before shooting. (End Spoiler). Aaand the pros and cons list: pros: really good story, mechanics, atmosphere and AI, cons: the huge flaw, bad guys have cliche voices and for some, not scary enough!

Salieri sends his regards

VaderJacobs | Nov. 6, 2013 | Review of Mafia II

The story stands alone from it's prequel, but has the best reference to it I've ever seen in game series ever. The story is great, the missions vary a lot are and are always fun. You don't have to drive too long to get at the destinations and the ending made me want the sequel even more than I thought. The gameplay is surprisingly good, all the driving, shooting, fist fighting goes smooth and feels right and the graphics are really nice too, let's put it this way: if the game was published today, no one would have serious critic on it when it comes to the graphics. The mechanics are good too but I've seen some odd things happening trough out the game like a spastic tie and uh, lets call it "magic climbing". And to finish, the pros and cons list: pros: - good story that drags you in and has very cool characters - good gameplay and graphics - very varied missions - good atmosphere and map - nice radio stations and cars - playboy cons: - the open world doesn't offer a lot - hard mode isn't very hard

Conclusion: a well earned 9.
