I love everything about this little indie gem, but how does one describe this simple retro game? Well, for starters, you are the captain of a space crew "stranded" in a weird dimension. You somehow have the ability to manipulate gravitation, which comes in handy considering everything is made out of platforms.
What follows is a challenging game in the style of metroid (sans shooting) with many neat gameplay twists and a stunning soundtrack. I recommend it to anyone who is into retro gaming or great platformers. There also is a free demo on newgrounds.com if you want to try it out before you buy.
Decent Gears cloneWinDiesel | June 13, 2012 | Review of Warhammer 40000: Space Marine (THQ)
First off: I'm not a fan of Warhammer but really like the video games, so I checked this out thinking it would be a refreshing take on the Gears of War formula.
It certainly wasn't that, but I still enjoyed it a lot. This certainly is something any fan of Gears or Warhammer can enjoy as it is a easy pick-up-and-play action game. Since there also isn't any pc port of recent Gears of War games, this is an excellent alternative.
TL;DR: Solid action game with sadly not too many refreshing additions. Feels and plays just like Gears of War, which is a good thing.
Sonic's Return?WinDiesel | June 13, 2012 | Review of Sonic Generations
Finally! A decent Sonic game on modern systems AND computers. This title really surprised me, I didn't know anything about it before I bought it and at first was really blown away. 2D Sonic controls perfectly and feels just like he used to in the 90s. 3D Sonic is pretty cool as well but not for everyone - luckily, his levels are on the short side and mostly good.
To cut to the chase:
Gameplay - A mixed bag, great classic gameplay, meh modern sonic 7/10
Sound - Sound effects are top notch, soundtrack has some really good but also some pretty annoying songs 8/10
Story - Absolutely boring, 4/10
Lasting appeal - Sadly, this game is really short and doesn't offer too much content worthy of multiple playthroughs 7/10
Overall, I'm sure Sonic Team is going to deliver great games in the future. They seem to have finally figured out what makes sonic games good.
