A Pleasant Surprise

Xtermi | July 20, 2012 | Review of Darksiders

I had read good things about the game, and many other "not so good" things, yet i picked this up in big part thanks to the awesome Sales here at GMG, and after playing the game for 15 hours, i'm now reaching the final stage of the game, and finally have my own opinion.

I was reluctant to pick this up because many people claimed it's a horrible console port. Well, it is no doubt a console port, but i wouldn't call it horrible at all. There are a few things that annoy me, the lack of Graphics Settings, which in my case aren't a problem as i'm getting a smooth framerate, and the controls are probably better using a Xbox controller, but i do just fine with my Keyboard & mouse.

I found the game to be a pleasent surprise, the whole "setting" is interesting, you are War, one of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse, and well, it's the Apocalypse. You'll be killing or interacting with all sorts of demons, with some names that will sound familiar to mythology lovers (or even Metal music fans) out there, like Tiamat or Samael. And the voice acting is not amazing, but there's a certain charm to it.

The combat is similiar to games Devil May Cry, and you'll have some puzzles to solve while you make your way to the story killing hordes of enemies. As for the graphics, as i said, there are really no "Setting", besides screen resolution, but Darksiders is a decent looking game, it's obviously not Crysis 2, but it doesn't look particularly outdated.

So, to sum it up, if you like Single Player games involving killing a bunch of demons on a post-apocalyptic Earth, than this is probably a good game for you, even though it's not the best "console port" ever, it can still be very fun.
