Captivating All Aroundash_arani | Sept. 15, 2014 | Review of Total War: Shogun 2
I have been out of the 'strategy games' loop for so long. I grew up playing RTS (franchises like C&C).
After seeing many glowing reviews of Total War: Shogun 2, I thought it might be time to invest in strategy again.
And what an experience this is. The Total War franchise excels at bringing the best of RTS and Turn-Based Strategy. It is one thing to be planning out economic and development plans. It becomes a completely different experience once you go into battle and the real-time element kicks in.
Also, given the niche (Japanese history) it revolves around, it is well executed. I am no expert on the accuracy of the facts, but I am enjoying it nevertheless.
Given I am a newcomer to this type of games, it took me almost 8 hours to go through all the tutorials. Those were an experience of their own.
The game features a good variety of units and I am particularly happy with wars both on land and in sea.
Overall, I really like both the depth and breadth of this game. It manages to cover most bases when it comes to strategy.
Stunning!!ash_arani | Aug. 16, 2014 | Review of The Witcher II: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition
Wow wow wow wow!!!!!!!
This game is just unbelievable. It is one thing to have a game with multiple endings, but it is completely different to do so rather seamlessly. The way decisions are made and the way the story is affected by it is rather impressive. It feels as the only way it could have progressed.
Also, because of these many branches, one can play the game over and over again.
The attention to details is amazing. I loved the combat system. The interactions among humans, elves, monsters, and witchers, and witches makes up a very beautiful fantasy world with many dimensions to it.
Simply put, just get into the sequel. Play the first game to make sure the story is comprehensible (at least read what happens in the first game).
From Land to Seaash_arani | Aug. 16, 2014 | Review of Assassin’s Creed® IV Black Flag™
This was my official introduction to Assassin's Creed and what an intro that was. From land to sea, from stealth to all around fights, this game has it all. A great storyline that crosses over between 'today' and the 'past'. The character development is rather interesting for a game. It was more of unexpected yet very happy to see it.
I personally loved the combat system (which I know some criticize as very easy). The visuals and the animation are rather impressive.
Highly recommended and I am officially hooked on the franchise.
My Franchise Intro... And WOW!ash_arani | Aug. 16, 2014 | Review of Far Cry 3
This was my introduction to the Far Cry franchise and I was very impressed. The graphics, the weapons, the missions, the vehicles, the world, this game has it all. The storyline is not the most amazing or the deepest, but it has many memorable moments.
Once I started, I could not stop. I just wanted to continue and continue. Very quickly you get immersed into the game. I highly recommend this game. :)
Fun and still fun!ash_arani | Aug. 16, 2014 | Review of Counter Strike: Global Offensive
I love the Counter Strike franchise and I have grown up playing it around 12 years ago.
Global Offensive keeps the same style with improved graphics. I initially thought that it would take away from the game. But I was wrong. The game is still amazing (and addictive).
And it is super competitive. Great fun. Highly recommended!
Great all around!ash_arani | Aug. 16, 2014 | Review of Batman: Arkham Asylum Game of the Year
Wow, this game has it all. Suspense, action, comedy, and good ol' beating.
The gameplay is exceptional. I particularly enjoyed the combat system. They kept a nice variety between full charge at the enemies and stealth operation. The gadgets are very cool. The bosses make up a great variety.
It is a game that makes you think at times (especially with Riddler's riddles). I enjoyed the game a lot.
I am officially hooked on the Batman franchise (better late than never) :)
