Solid game

bl2k3 | Aug. 6, 2013 | Review of BioShock NA Overflow 1 - PC

A single player fps that also has some RPG elements. The story and setting are both really good, but some parts of the gameplay can become very repetitive. I've heard there is a possible of 3 alternate endings as well, so that's a plus. The strongest RPG elements in this game are the plasmids. The plasmids add a lot of replayability seeing as how every time you come back to this game, you can play your character out different. The weakest part of the game for me is the hacking. Hacking becomes a huge hassle later on. It's okay at the start, kind of a cool concept, but then with how much you have to continually hack things, it becomes a huge bore. All of the guns and gun upgrades are pretty fun to use. There's not too much to elaborate on, but I do recommend to use the upgraded ammo eventually since it will really come in handy. Some quests can be quite enjoyable, but a lot are just really annoying fetch quests with backtracking. Thankfully you can find diaries along the way to learn more of the story to make it more enjoyable. Pretty good game, but I don't think it's that amazing like most people have told me. If you can buy this on sale though, it will be well worth the price.

Good game

bl2k3 | Aug. 5, 2013 | Review of Doom 3 Bethesda - PC

I know this game gets a lot of flak for being too different from the other games, but sometimes change is a good thing. Rather than being a run and gun game like the original 2, this one is more of a "survival horror fps." The gameplay can definitely become repetitive, but what honestly doesn't. I never played multiplayer too much, but I have played through the campaign several times and even though sometimes it feels stale, I still really enjoy it every time. Although the horror isn't too scary, since eventually they just become predictable jump scares, there's still tension from the atmosphere and visuals. You'll find yourself fighting for your life in complete darkness at times. They tried to add a story into this game a lot more than the others, which for the most part I found easy to follow. This game as also known as a milestone for the gaming industry just for the graphical improvements alone. Unfortunately, DOOM 4 is stuck in development hell, so it may be a very long time before we see another DOOM added to the franchise. I for one am very excited to see what lies ahead to one of my most cherished franchises ever.

Classic and important games to the industry

bl2k3 | Aug. 5, 2013 | Review of DOOM Classic Complete - PC

You really can't say enough good things about DOOM, at least in my opinion. Although I may be biased because it was the first violent video game I ever played, this game did a ton for the gaming industry in the FPS genre. If you like classic old games, you really have no excuse to not pick this up for the price. It may take a little tweaking in dos box to get the controls right, but once you've done that you're good to go. There's also a ton of source ports for improved compatibility as well as even an easy multiplayer to set up. If you like plots though, there isn't much in this game. This is just a pure fps where you're killing wave after wave of enemies, which there's really nothing wrong with that. Being old school there's also a ton of secrets. I'd have to say my favourite out of this pack is DOOM II, but all the others are damn fine games as well. I just feel that DOOM II was a huge upgrade to #1 with more weapons and monsters and just more memorable levels for me.

One of the best games to come out in recent years

bl2k3 | Aug. 5, 2013 | Review of Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition NA - PC

I first heard of Dark Souls from a friend awhile ago and I was pretty skeptical since I knew nothing about the game. Seeing it used at a local game store for $20, I decided to pick it up. Since then, I have not looked back once. Dark Souls is a very unique gaming experience that I feel everybody who is a fan of RPGs should undergo. I have yet to see another game do what Dark Souls does and better. I know lots of people complain about the co-op in the game, but this game isn't meant to be co-op. It's intended as a single player game with some multiplayer capabilities, which the system to connect to people isn't all that great, but there's many fixes out for the PC version to connect to friends easier. Although this game can already be incredibly difficult, especially at first, if you keep playing through "New Game +" there's even more challenge added every time for more replay ability. There's also of course tons of different builds for different kinds of characters you can make in this game. One thing I have to mention is to get DSFix and DSCfix for this game, otherwise it's very poorly optimized since it was the companies first PC port ever. Seeing as how I've played over 200 hours of this on console and around 40 hours on Steam, I really couldn't give the game anything else but a 100.
