Interesting, but a word of warning for non-MMO playerschestburster | May 4, 2013 | Review of The Secret World (NA)
I like this game as a fan of H.P.Lovecraft and other weird mythos. But before The Secret World, I've never played any MMO. I bought this game after looking at gameplay videos. And in those videos, what you can see is that the game characters are firing guns; what you can't see in the videos, is that the player doesn't actually "control" the shooting--you just press the "skill" keys (1-9 number keys by default). There is very little targeting. --After some gameplay and research, I've come to the realization that this is how the modern MMOs are played. Well, not a gameplay style I like.
So yeah, if you're looking for a shooter, you gonna be disappointed. But I have to say, The Secret World is very well made for its genre. The graphics are nice and the story is kinda interesting. The quests involve some reading and puzzle solving, which I like.
Interesting multiplayer that sits between COD and BF3chestburster | May 4, 2013 | Review of Medal of Honor Warfighter (NA)
I've always enjoyed BF3's gun feel and the smooth movement system. Yet I've also enjoyed COD's close quarter combat with killstreaks. This game combines those two parts of COD and BF3, and improved on them.
For one, the guns in MOH:Warfighter are even more satisfying to handle than BF3's guns. The sound of firing those guns are spectacular. The recoil, sway and the animation of those guns are truly impressive. This to me, is one of the most important things when playing a multiplayer shooter.
Everything else in this game is OK. Sure it does nothing new, but it's a nice variation for someone tired of playing BF3's close quarter maps. Seriously after playing Noshahr Canals (the most popular TDM map in BF3) for 100 hours, I really want something new and I don't quite like the maps in CQB DLC, or COD's gunplay. MOH: Warfighter is very satisfying as a backup game when I wait for BF4.
Oh and the firebuddy system of MOH is nice, especially if you have a good teammate.
Extremely fun co-op modechestburster | April 27, 2013 | Review of Syndicate - US & Canada
The singleplayer is meh. But the co-op mode is excellent. It is comparable to the Spec Ops mode of Modern Warfare 2 and 3, but with customizable weapon loadouts, special abilities and boss fights. The co-op maps get rid of the uninteresting storylines and basically throw at you huge number of enemies and some interesting boss enemies. You have to fight them with extremely satisfying sci-fi weapons such miniguns, electric arc throwers, flamethrowers, shoulder-mounted lasers, auto-tracking grenade launchers, etc., all customizable and able to be leveled up.
