Punishing, Yet Satisfyingcoopopolopolis | Oct. 25, 2013 | Review of Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition (NA)
Dark Souls brings back the classic concept that finishing a game should be an accomplishment, not a requirement. Remember all of your old NES games that would kill you over and over until you reached the point of giving up? That's exactly what this game does. It doesn't sugar coat anything. It doesn't hold your hand and tell you want to do every step of the way. It just gives it to you over and over. You learn from your mistakes, so that when you conquer something, you actually feel good about what you achieved. I've never died so many times in a game and been ok with it at the same time. It's a great game that you should really give a chance if you aren't easily frustrated with lost progress. It's an immersive world that will keep you on your toes as death literally is waiting around every corner. The game does suffer from being a bad console port, but luckily the mod community took care of that for you so that you can enjoy a great game with the expected PC graphic experience. I highly recommend giving this one a try. It'll make you a better, or at least more humbled gamer.
