A Great RPG Experience

deathgrape | June 24, 2013 | Review of Mass Effect (NA)

Mass Effect is one of the quintessential RPGs of the 2000s. It was one of the few to figure out the RPG+ shooter style, as well as the RPG+ space style. On all accounts, it does these well. ME isn't the greatest shooter you'll ever play, but it doesn't try to be. What it tries to be, is a true RPG experience where your decisions actually create an impact, which it actually does. Other RPGs (cough cough Skyrim) give you the illusion of choice, but in reality nothing you do will impede you from your quest to the top, eventually becoming Grandmaster of the World or whatever. ME is not one of these. Your choices WILL get people pissed, and others killed. This game is not for those with a low attention span, because much of the game is delivered through dialogue, one of the shining features of the game. Every voice actor portrays a brilliant character, creating even more depth to already deep characters. Overall, if you are into experiences more than amazing action, ME will be a game you won't be soon to forget.
