Interesting idea, but could have been executed better.digiconner | Sept. 27, 2014 | Review of Murdered: Soul Suspect
The concept of this game is very intriguing, being able to play as a ghost who can possess people and read their thoughts, however it is not done as well as it could have been.
There are a couple of different types of gameplay: exploring, investigating and fighting demons. While exploring you can walk around, through walls, and find collectibles. During investigating you will be at a scene where you must find clues to come to a conclusion. While fighting demons you have to be stealthy and hide from them to then execute them from behind.
The exploring and investigating are okay, however coming to a conclusion is easy and obvious. The demon fighting seems out of place, and doesn't really fit with the rest of the game, it's just there to try to add action to grab people who can't play a game that doesn't have any. On the other hand, the demons are genuinely scary, and would fit well in a horror game.
Overall it's a decent game, but the concept isn't executed as well as it could have been.
Fun, varied racing.digiconner | Aug. 11, 2014 | Review of DiRT Showdown
This is a pretty fun racing game with a variety of game types, which makes it more interesting than standard racing games. There's the normal race type, but theres also demolition derby types - which are very fun - trick rush (where you have to get the most points by performing tricks) and smash and grab (where you have to hold on to loot which other players steal by hitting you), as well as plenty more. You can also free drive around different areas.
Overall, this is a good game, and a fun racing game that deviates from the norm.
Mildly entertaining, but not necessary.digiconner | Aug. 1, 2014 | Review of Sonic Generations - Casino Nights Pinball DLC
This DLC gives you a small pinball mini game, where you can play as either Classic Sonic or Modern Sonic, with slightly different gameplay features between them. It's not bad as a break from the standard action, and fun to play for a couple of times. If you're really interested in buying this, then go ahead, as it's pretty cheap. However, if you're not that bothered then there's not much point getting it. It doesn't really add anything to the game or the story, and is just fun for a couple of games.
Good homage to the classics.digiconner | Aug. 1, 2014 | Review of Sonic Generations
Sonic Generations is a great reminder that Sonic games used to be fantastic, and while this game isn't up to the level of the old games, it's still pretty fun and does a good job of recreating the magic of the levels and music.
The levels are done very well, and are instantly recognisable if you've every played the games they're from. The gameplay is fast; both 2D and 3D Sonic's movement feels great, however when using 3D Sonic, some levels can be quickly completed just by holding boost and pushing forward, without much of a challenge. The music is fantastic, with plenty of iconic songs, such as escape the city (my personal favourite). The story is pretty interesting, and there are plenty of recognisable characters which you save.
Overall, this is a pretty good game, and every Sonic fan should pick this up. It is much better than the other games that they've been releasing recently.
Unable to recapture the magic.digiconner | July 30, 2014 | Review of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I
This game is clearly Sega's attempt to grab the attention of the nostalgic classic Sonic fans. Unfortunately, it fails to match the amazing original Sonic trilogy.
The graphics are okay, with the levels looking nice, but Sonic looks weird and unnatural. The music is great and is very reminiscent of the classic tunes. The physics are quite bad, as Sonic handles strangely, and his momentum feels wrong. Some of the levels can be fun, and some of the boss fights are interesting, but there are some much less enjoyable moments.
Overall, the game isn't awful, but I wouldn't really recommend this game. It's not a great sequel and is a failed attempt to recreate the beloved classic Sonic.
Genius.digiconner | July 24, 2014 | Review of The Wolf Among Us
This game is based on the Fables universe, but if you have no idea what Fables is, it doesn't matter and you can still enjoy this game.
Fables is a comic book series based on fairytale characters who had to leave their world and come to ours. It is a great concept, and in the game you meet plenty of interesting and familiar characters, such as Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, and The Big Bad Wolf.
Despite being about fairytale characters, this game isn't a kids game and does not have a fairytale story. Instead, it contains very adult themes, such as murder and prostitution.
There are plenty of intense action scenes, and also there are some very intense dialogue scenes. There are also some interesting choices you must make, with strong consequences.
Overall this game is a masterpiece, and manages to create an immersive atmosphere and engaging story.
Good game, but sequel is much better.digiconner | July 23, 2014 | Review of Sonic and Sega All Star Racing Classic
As the title says, this game is pretty good and is a not a bad starting point for Sega's own Mario Kart type game, but they improved everything in the incredible sequel, Sonic and Sega All Star Racing Transformed, so you should pick that up instead. Nevertheless, this game has a good range of characters, from Shadow to Beat to BD Joe to Big The Cat. It also has some good tracks and music, with plenty of nostalgia. For the single player, there are several grand prix, consisting of 4 races each and plenty of missions. For each race you earn miles which allows you to unlock more stages, music, and characters. Split Screen is also an option.
Overall, it's not a bad game but you should get the sequel Transformed instead.
Dissapointing.digiconner | July 23, 2014 | Review of Dear Esther
I had high hopes for this game, as I loved Gone Home and I enjoy very story driven games. This game is more of an interactive story than a game, as all you do is explore an island while a narrator tells a story. The story is quite confusing, making it hard to cause an immediate impact. There isn't much to see on the island, there are only a few things that are really significant to the story. The graphics and visual are very nice and look good. However the walking speed is too slow, meaning that if you reach a dead end, it is painfully slow to return back in the correct direction, which unfortunately means that exploration becomes too long and boring and rather than trying to see all the island you find yourself just sticking to the one path.
If you're looking for an exciting game with great gameplay, definitely don't get this game. If you're looking for an interactive story with minimal gameplay and a great story, I would not recommend this game, and there are better interactive stories, such as Gone Home or Stanley Parable.
Okay game, but disappointing lack of game modes.digiconner | July 23, 2014 | Review of EA Sports UFC
The game is fun, looks fantastic, and has some good mechanics. There are plenty of fighters, and a length career mode. However, the grappling and submission mechanics could be improved. Also, the career mode can be quite tiresome and could be made more interesting, as all you do is fight, then train, then fight, then train, etc. Finally, more game modes would improve the game greatly, as at the moment the only choices are online, career mode and challenges.
Overall, if you're a huge UFC fan it's an okay game and is a lot of fun to play with friends.
Hacking awesomeness.digiconner | May 29, 2014 | Review of Watch_Dogs
This game is amazing, and so fun. The hacking is awesome, and feels so great when you hack a traffic light and watch the cars just pile up.
The missions are great, where you can use stealth, or just go in guns blazing. I don't usually like stealth in games, but the stealth in this game is fantastic. You can complete a mission without even entering the area, just by hacking between cameras and setting off explosives.
The city feels alive, and it is very interesting just walking through the streets and looking at the information on all the different people.
This game is awesome and you should buy it.
Not really worth it.digiconner | May 16, 2014 | Review of Sonic Adventure™ 2: Battle Mode
This DLC doesn't particularly add a lot of necessary stuff. The chao karate is cool, but the game is fine without it, and the new maps and characters are only good if you play the local multiplayer a lot.
Only buy this if you really enjoy the local multiplayer and want some new characters and maps.
The first great 3D Sonic game.digiconner | May 13, 2014 | Review of Sonic Adventure DX
This game is fantastic, and it still holds up. The gameplay is unique and varied, from speeding through levels as Sonic, to exploring levels searching for emeralds as Knuckles. The adventure fields provide a nice break between levels, and the Chao Garden allows you to sit back, relax and raise chaos to race. The plot is interesting, and the music is great with each character having their own theme song at the credits of their storyline (my favourite is knuckles rap song).
The only issues with this game are that there are a couple of glitches, the voice acting can sometimes sound bad (I find tails' voice acting to be the worst), and levels can get repetitive when you replay them in the different characters storylines.
However despite these issues this game is still fantastic and is a must buy.
Good idea but poorly executed.digiconner | May 12, 2014 | Review of Sonic 3D Blast
As the title says, the game has a good idea, in that you have to collect a certain number of the Flickies from enemies to progress through areas, however the game is not very well done. The attempt at 3D graphics is awful, the camera sucks and this is the only game I have ever felt motion sickness from. This is not a very good game.
Brilliant game.digiconner | May 12, 2014 | Review of Sonic 3 and Knuckles
This game is great. The levels are well designed, the bosses are cool, the characters are great and the story is interesting. This includes 3 storylines, sonic the hedgehog 3, sonic & knuckles - sonic storyline and sonic & knuckles - knuckles storyline. You can play as sonic, tails or knuckles and the introduction of knuckles to the franchise is awesome. This game is exceptional.
Not great.digiconner | May 11, 2014 | Review of Sonic Spinball
This game is an ok pinball game, with a Sonic texture. It's not bad but not really great. It can be quite hard and a bit frustrating. You wouldn't really be missing out on anything if you don't buy.
Only buy if you really want to play it.digiconner | May 10, 2014 | Review of Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
This is an ok puzzle game, it can be fun, but the singleplayer mode can be quite challenging and even a bit frustrating. I would only recommend this game if you're really interested in playing, otherwise you might not be satisfied.
Another timeless classic.digiconner | May 10, 2014 | Review of Sonic CD
Sonic the hedgehog 1 and 2 are both fantastic, and this game is just as great. It introduces Metal Sonic and Amy Rose who are awesome characters and it also adds the main new innovative gameplay mechanic of being able to travel between the past, present and future, giving different versions of levels meaning that multiple playthroughs can feel different. This game is great, definitely buy it.
Still a great game.digiconner | May 9, 2014 | Review of Sonic the Hedgehog
This game holds up and is still very fun. It is a very challenging game, but it can be made easier since you can save and quick save in the emulator. Fantastic start to a series.
Awesome.digiconner | May 7, 2014 | Review of Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete Edition
This game is awesome, the story, free-roaming and multiplayer are all very fun. You can just run around blowing stuff up or just peacefully drive around the city, either on your own or with your friends. This game is a must play, I have spent countless hours in it.
Amazing.digiconner | May 4, 2014 | Review of Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag
As the title says, this game is amazing. The gameplay, the story, the characters, all of it is incredible.
Sailing round with your crew singing crew shanties, blowing up or boarding other ships, running across rooftops assassinating guards, all of it is awesome. While on land the game is the standard Assassin's Creed experience, where you can choose to stealthily pick off targets or try to hand to hand fight all the enemies at once. While at sea, the game becomes something completely different. It turns into an epic pirate game, picking off enemy ships with various cannons and boarding them with your crew to kill the enemies on board.
You should definitely play this game. It also has a great story with well written characters, emotional moments, and shocking twists.
Fun game, but not quite perfect.digiconner | May 4, 2014 | Review of Battlefield 4
This is a good game, but unfortunately it's not great.
First of all, the single player campaign is thrilling with plenty of action and an alright story, however it is too short. It leaves you wanting more and you feel like there just wasn't enough.
The graphics are amazing, there is plenty of beautiful scenery and the destructible environments are awesome. The stunning graphics help enhance the exciting action moments in both the single player and the multiplayer.
The multiplayer is clearly the focus of the game. The maps are well designed and there are many unscripted organic moments that just feel so awesome. For example, storming through a door with 10 of your teammates to kill a group of enemies, or taking part in epic standoffs at capture points.
This game is fun, but it's just more of the same. It's very similar to Battlefield 3, but with a shorter story and better graphics.
Storytelling at its finest.digiconner | April 27, 2014 | Review of The Walking Dead: A Telltale Game Series
This game is the epitome of storytelling. The characters are amazing and are there are plenty of characters you love, and some characters you will love to hate. These characters help make it much harder to decide which choices to make throughout the game. This also means that the consequences of your choices effect you much more emotionally.
The gameplay is pretty simple, yet still fun, which means that anyone can pick up and enjoy this game. The action sequences manage to be very tense and thrilling, despite just being point and click.
This is the type of game that sticks with you long after playing it. You will continue to think about the characters and choices and the consequences of those choices.
Simply awesome.digiconner | April 17, 2014 | Review of Assassin's Creed II
This game is one of the best games ever made. To start with you play as this badass character Ezio, who you really connect with and you watch him grow up and mature as he becomes a master assassin.
The gameplay is extremely fun, with plenty of free running, tactical stealth kills and large sword fights. The combat is great, and allows you to pull off many awesome kills with a variety of weapons that leave you feeling epic.
The story is compelling, with many shocking moments that make you really feel for the characters. You must play this game if you haven't already, it will go down in history as one of the greatest games ever made.
Great game with an intriguing story.digiconner | April 17, 2014 | Review of Alan Wake
This game is fantastic. Firstly, the main gameplay mechanic, which is that you have to use light to break enemies defences to then shoot them, is very unique and interesting. It adds a nice dynamic to distinguish it from other third person shooters.
Secondly, the story is very captivating and suspenseful. You're constantly wondering whats going to happening next and there are many mysteries and twists layered throughout the game that lead to very rewarding moments.
Finally, the characters are well written and the atmosphere is very tense and compelling. I would definitely recommend this game for anyone who likes third person shooters with great stories.
Even more banter and poker.digiconner | April 17, 2014 | Review of Poker Night 2
This game is better than the first one. The characters are fantastic, with my personal favourites being GLADOS and Claptrap. The dialogue and interactions between the characters are hilarious, and the poker is simple and fun. You can earn items in other games, such as Team Fortress 2 and Borderlands 2, by beating certain characters at certain times, which is fantastic and gives you a clear objective.
The only problems I have with this game are that sometimes dialogue can repeat after you have been playing for a while, and that the game can move a little slowly when you have to wait for the characters to finish their sentences and play.
Overall, it is an entertaining game aimed towards those who are interested in the characters rather than those interested in an in depth, fast, poker simulator.
Play a casual poker game with some virtual friends!digiconner | April 17, 2014 | Review of Poker Night at the Inventory
This game is very fun and the dialogue between the characters is hilarious. If you're looking for a casual poker game to play with some funny characters, this game is great. However, if you're looking for a more refined, hardcore poker game, then there are plenty of other games you can play. This game is more focused on the dialogue than the poker.
Overall, it is very fun to play, and I would recommend it for anyone who is interested in the characters and a simple game of poker.
