Falls just short of its incredible potential for greatnessevacybele | June 14, 2013 | Review of Remember Me
I give it a pretty solid 7.5/10. The art direction and music were both superb, and the combat was dynamic and fun (though a little repetitive in places), but it was a touch too linear for a third person action game, and the characters, while they had ridiculous amounts of potential, didn’t have the depth and substance that I wanted. The story was interesting and kept me going, though it was a fairly standard cyberpunk rebels-topple-the-evil-corporation, and the twists had the seeds of greatness but it didn’t quite live up to its potential. Voice acting was a bit shaky at times, but Nilin, the protagonist, was excellently acted. The memory remix segments were super fun and there should have been more of them.
Basically, it was a game that didn’t quite reach far enough, and had it been longer and gone deeper into the fascinating, beautifully-constructed world or the interesting and diverse cast of characters, it would have been quite simply amazing. I’ll definitely buy any and all story DLC that comes out, because it left me wanting more. A lot more.
With any luck, a sequel with more exploration and a better focus on characterization will be forthcoming!
