You'll sure have some fun (before the cracks begin to show)johjo605 | July 10, 2013 | Review of SimCity
I want to love SimCity. I played the crap out of the original back in '89 and had some good times with SimCity 2000 and so I had high hopes for this one.
The long and short of it: If you like SimCity type games, then you'll definitely have a good time for a good number of hours. But... I can't help being disappointed by the smallness of the cities you're able to build. I get that they are going for something different with this installment, but it's not me somehow. I don't mind playing with several other players in a region. It's a lot of fun actually. But I would have liked the option to just say no thank you and just build a giant super-city all on my own as well, without having to rely on surrounding cities in the region.
Also, much of the "AI" or whatever you want to call it, doesn't seem to work all that well. It might have gotten patched since I last played, but fire fighting and policing is a mess, as are transports and trade depots and ambulances and... well, it's just a mess of AI cars not really doing their job very well.
I'd recommend this game if you like the genre, and if you're generally satisfied with having 10-20 hours of fun with a game before discarding it. But if you're looking for that SimCity game that you'll stick with for years and years, then this isn't it.
One of my favorite shootersjohjo605 | July 10, 2013 | Review of Bioshock Infinite
I loved the original Bioshock and Infinite didn't disappoint me. It's one of the best shooters I've played, mainly because of the art style, story and dialogue and interaction between the main character and the AI character Elisabeth.
The gunplay is solid, but if there's one thing I'd wished they would have taken down a notch, it's the amount of it. Shooting is of course central to a shooter, but Bioshock doesn't need to have that much shooting going on, and without spoiling the plot, it does feel a bit misplaced in the setting you're in a the player. The first few acts of violence feel significant. 10 minutes later, you're Rambo on steroids, on steroids.
But all in all, a great game with nice little twists and turns in the storyline. Make sure you play the original as well. Preferably, but not necessarily, before you play this one.
Fun gunplay, but a bit repetitivejohjo605 | July 10, 2013 | Review of Defiance
I really dig the environment and artstyle of the game, and the gunplay is a lot of fun, but after the first few hours the game starts to feel a bit repetitive.
It's definitely worth a try and has a very reasonable price tag. A good mid tier game.
