The new benchmark for Story Telling

lkRaven | July 13, 2013 | Review of The Walking Dead

I was never really interested in this game first. But I heard lot of good things about the story and decided to get it off the GMG sale and I am very happy that I did.

The graphics is very different from other main stream games and the game play is elements are simple. The fact that there is a timer for each dialog option forced you to be 100% on attention to thing happening in the game.

But the real star of the show here is the story telling. The characters, voice acting and the development of the story all culminate into one awesome package.

The game adapts to your in-game decisions and the story is presented in a way that has never been experienced in a game before. I wish I can tell you all the cool things that affect the story and how it develops, but that would force me into spoilers which would ruin the experience.

Verdict: Get this game no matter what genre you like, this is a one of a kind game.

Benchmark for Episodic story telling

lkRaven | July 10, 2013 | Review of The Walking Dead

I was not much excited about this game when it initially came out. However the positive reactions to this game wanted me to try it out. Then I found this for a bargain on GMG and I immediately fell in love with it.

The game play although somewhat slow is very immersive. The graphics have the cell shaded cartoony look that looks really cool and there aren't many games that have this kind of art direction. But its none of this that propels the game beyond good games into greatness. Its the story and how its being presented. I cannot explain much without giving into any spoilers. Therefore I will keep it short. Its the benchmark for episodic story telling from now on.

The Most Hilarious Weapon in All of Gaming?

lkRaven | May 15, 2013 | Review of Saints Row: The Third - Shark Attack Pack

I bought this today for 0.67 cents and I am having a great laugh with it. Sharks coming out of the ground to devour your opponents is one awesome sight.

In my view this is one of the most hilarious weapons I've come across in gaming. Hilarious and deadly I must say. Once it hits the target the Shark will get your opponent without mercy!! Watching that is one of the most hilarious experiences in gaming.

Although I am opposed to this DLC concept (I prefer the old school full on expansion thing) this is one DLC I really love.

Bittersweet

lkRaven | Feb. 20, 2013 | Review of Krater - Collector's Edition

I got this game from recent GMG sale and was looking forward to playing it. I have never been a die hard RPG fan. But ever since I finished Dragon Age: Origins I have been trying RPGs. However the ARPG genre was a new one to me since I have never played any Diablo game. The only game I played before this was Torchlight which I did not finish (and hope to finish).

All of a sudden I was playing Krater and Titan Quest both (Don't worry I am not going to compare them in this review). When you start Krater, it feels brilliant for the first few hours, because everything feels new. The post apocalyptic setting feels brilliant. I really love the party system and when you play a few hours it offers a quite a good challenge (perhaps because I am an ARPG noob). However, things become gradually repetitive and it soon put me off.

Graphics wise, its just above average and the performance seems to take a hit from time to time but its not a big issue. (On a E6600 C2D proc and NVIDIA 275 GTX).

Audio effects are not bad but not excellent either and honestly I don't expect much in this department for a low budge title.\

In my view, its a good time filler if you can grab it on Sale. For 19.99 I think there are better options.

One of the best MP Shooters around

lkRaven | Feb. 11, 2013 | Review of Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad

I got this game from GMG during the Christmas sale period and did not try it until January. But when I did, I rued myself for not playing this earlier. The game is extremely fun if you have a good team to play with. As someone from Sri Lanka I usually have trouble finding good pings and decently filled servers. But when I do, its great fun.

The best thing about the game is its emphasis on team play. There is no run and gun as with COD. The gameplay is somewhat similar to battlefield, but even more deep and require even more team play. The game is easy to grasp and welcoming to newcomers but it takes time to master. The best thing for a newcomer is the mature community. You hardly find any swearing players and the community always help out to newcomers. The game's campaign is merely a tutorial that prepares you for the fantastic multiplayer. My only gripe in the MP is the somewhat long play time per game, which sort of puts me off becaus I am someone who finds it difficult to dedicate more than 10-15 mins of playtime per session. However this may not be an issue for most people.

The graphics do look a bit dated, but it is not even noticable when you start enjoying the gameplay. The sounds are also good and the controls feel great.

All in all this is a solid multiplayer game that is well worth the price (and a steal when I bought it for under $4).
