Great expansion if you want the things in it.m0rogfar | Feb. 26, 2015 | Review of Europa Universalis IV: El Dorado Collection
The expansion El Dorado for Europa Universalis 4 adds two big things. One is the new world religion features. These features adds a unique dynamic to the game where you lose some of your progress to get other bonuses. These religions are fun to play and there is nothing quite like it. This adds many hours to the expansion and can easily justify it if you want to play as the Aztecs or the Inca or the Maya. The nation designer is the other major feature in El Dorado. It let's you create nations anywhere with unique national ideas. It's as much fun as you are creative so for some it will be a lot of fun and for some it will be really boring. I personally really like it. The way you can just add new things means i will never be done with the game though. Other features include the random basetax and custom start. These are both fun too but they aren't as big as the two major features. The unit packs all look glorious and really helps to set the setting but if you just want the nation designer and don't care about the mesoamericans or the south americans you can skip them. The song pack is a must because the composer is really good. Seriously you just have to get the music. It's so good for your ears.
Great expansionm0rogfar | Oct. 14, 2014 | Review of Crusader Kings II: Charlemagne
This new expansion for Crusader Kings 2 adds a new bookmark and a bunch of other features. The new bookmark is a huge addition that can extend play time by over 100 hours if you're willing to try it. Great fun. The other features like the Chronicle and the Custom Kingdoms and Empires and Viceroys are nice extras but the new bookmark is what you buy Charlemagne for.
The return of a fan favoritem0rogfar | July 16, 2014 | Review of Europa Universalis IV: Republican Music Pack
This music pack enhances the feeling of planing strategies. The music is very noticeable yet does not annoy you while planning strategies and fits in perfectly. The pack includes the track "Falalalan" and that track is every Europa Universalis fan's favorite track. You want to buy this for that track alone. It is also worth noting that there is much more music than in other music packs. Buy it no matter what.
Indian shipsm0rogfar | July 16, 2014 | Review of Europa Universalis IV: Indian Ships Unit Pack
This pack adds ship models to India in Europa Universalis 4 (EU4 later in the review). The models look sharp as always and i love the look of everything. The issue is that you aren't really going to see the ships because in India you mostly fight on land in EU4. This makes me prefer the unit pack for the land units that you will see much more.
Indian units.m0rogfar | July 16, 2014 | Review of Europa Universalis IV: Indian Subcontinent Unit Pack
This DLC simply adds more India to Europa Universalis 4 (referred to as EU4 later in the review) and that is good. Why you ask? Because lately EU4 got the Sikh faith, the ability to pick deities and a generally stronger asia. India is the best place to be outside of Europe right now and since you want to play there these indian units help make everything feel more indian. They also look good and help immersion. I feel like this is an important addition to India. Buy if you want to play in India.
Good for it's pricem0rogfar | July 16, 2014 | Review of Europa Universalis IV: Res Publica
This DLC adds new things for the Netherlands and Poland and the new national focus feature. The Netherlands now have unique content and that makes them so much more awesome. The issue with the Orangists is that if you put one in power you will lose a lot of Republican Tradition making it a very dangerous choice. This makes for good strategy and is therefore a good addition to the game. The Poland (and Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth) content is good because it effects not just Poland but everyone around them as they struggle to get their favorite on the throne. Poland wants their own candidate as he has better stats (most of the time) so things get interesting quick, especially for multiplayer. The National Focus allows you to get more monarch points in one category and that is something the game needed and it is the feature that makes you buy the DLC. I recommend purchasing this.
Reviewm0rogfar | July 4, 2014 | Review of Europa Universalis IV: Conquest of Paradise
Europa Universalis 4 Conquest of Paradise (or just CoP) adds a few new features to the base game. New native gameplay makes the natives more interesting but you still run out of stuff to do as them. You can now play as Colonial Nations when they revolt against you and fight some epic wars. The best feature is the random new world (America) generator. This adds a feeling of exploration and wonder that is great to have in the game. Also randomness seriously extend the longetivity of the game and with mods making the entire world random the game will give you even more hour. Buy it if you want the generator.
Nice stuff herem0rogfar | June 12, 2014 | Review of Crusader Kings II: Celtic Unit Pack
This DLC adds new unit models for CK2. These models are used only by Celtic cultures. I love them and they look great unlike the portraits that i felt had out-of-place eyes. This is worth the price because the Celtic characters are fun to play. Buy this DLC
Faces of Mongolsm0rogfar | June 12, 2014 | Review of Crusader Kings II: Mongol Faces
Mongols looks like Mongols with this Crusader Kings 2 DLC. It's nice to finally see Mongol faces in the game but i usually don't really play in the Mongol timeframe. Still this facelift was needed and i am very happy about it.
The eyes creep me outm0rogfar | June 12, 2014 | Review of Crusader Kings II: Celtic Portraits
This cosmetical DLC for Crusader Kings 2 adds many new face combinations for characters. Unfortunately when i play the game the eyes absolutely freak me out. They feel very out of place and creepy. I personally wouldn't reccommend this DLC.
Great add-on for EU3m0rogfar | June 12, 2014 | Review of Europa Universalis III: Revolution 2 Sprite Pack
This add-on adds sprites to several German, Italian and Polish nations. The wide range of area affected is really nice and adds a lot of value to this DLC. The sprites fit the game very well and going back after you get it is very annoying. I like having them as the German nations were expanded on a lot in the expansions. Buy it.
Good and flexiblem0rogfar | June 12, 2014 | Review of Europa Universalis III Collection
This game is very good because it is very flexible and open. Compared to it's sequel Europa Universalis 4 it has a much more open trade system and playing as a small nation is better. The game was pretty bad at launch but this has been remedied with four expansions that added lots of stuff. The additional cosmetics are nice but not really required. Buy this game.
Nice improvements from EU3m0rogfar | June 11, 2014 | Review of Europa Universalis IV
EU4 is a game set in the age of colonization from 1444 to 1821. The game feels a bit too railroaded to me. Trade is bound to go in certain directions for example. And at other points the game encourages alternate history. This feels like a weird mix. Also the game is often patched with updates. I kind of feel that the developers don't know where they want the game to go. Still it is a great game that i have invested +300 hours in so it works for some reason. I still reccommend buying it. 300 hour is a long time.
Great little add-onm0rogfar | June 11, 2014 | Review of Europa Universalis IV: Pre-Order Pack
This DLC was originally given out for free for prre-orders. If you didn't pre-order you buy it here. It adds unique units for Byzantium and England and France and a few others. These models are really good looking and a lot of time were obviously put into them. Additionally you get extra events for Byzantium. These events are fun to get but also very difficult. Still it's worthwhile to try and win as Byzantium. Buy the DLC.
A nice challengem0rogfar | June 11, 2014 | Review of Europa Universalis IV: Digital Extreme Upgrade Pack
This DLC adds new sprites for Ottoman cavalry and new music to the game. The music is truely high quality and not to be missed. The sprites have a Turkish feel to them and for Turks that is a good thing. The real reason to buy this is the decision to "Unite Islam" under you. Like anything else in this pack it feels like it is ment for the Ottoman players. It is a long and big challenge that you should try. This DLC is worthy of your money.
A cosmetic pack for EU4m0rogfar | June 11, 2014 | Review of Europa Universalis IV: Call-to-Arms Pack
This EU4 DLC pack adds new sprites to the game. These sprites are the Winged Hussar and National Monument sprites. One annoying thing is that Winged Hussars only appear lategame and the game is significantly better earlygame. You don't really notice the National Monument things. This makes your money better spent elsewhere as you won't see them much.
Heart of not-really-Darkness-but-still-greatm0rogfar | June 11, 2014 | Review of Victoria II: A Heart of Darkness
The final expansion for Victoria 2 aims to make the game truely great. This is accomplished by the new colonisation system that is very strategic. This system replaces something that was not that amazing with something amazing. The new naval system prevents cheap play and fixes one of the most glaring issues with the game because the old one was very abuseable. Another important thing is crisises that are pre-war tensions in the game. They happen with oppressed nations and when two people try and colonise the same place. The newspaper system is a complete failure lacking emotion though. A must buy.
A House Divided, A Game Completem0rogfar | June 11, 2014 | Review of Victoria II: A House Divided
A House Divided is the first expansion to Victoria 2. It adds some nice features. There is the new American Civil War start date (1861) that feels different. The CSA are great fun forcing you to try things and see if they work. You also have to think about the future because no matter how you look at it even if you survive the USA is still very threatening to you. It is a very fun playthrough that can be fun to try. The new UI allows you to get the information you want faster and not waste time and that is always nice. Also the game feels much more balanced and does not get stale that often. This makes the game feel much more complete and that is a great thing. Buy it!
Victoria 2 reviewm0rogfar | June 11, 2014 | Review of Victoria II
Victoria 2 is a good game. It's a grand strategy by Paradox Interactive focusing on economics and politics. It also has war and technology but these are not the focus. I have a few major issues with the game. One is that you have to spend a lot of hours to learn the game. This could be helped by having better tutorials. Also the game is very unbalanced and can get stale. The last two issues were fixed in expansions. I recommend getting the bundle.
The American Civil War is even better with this DLCm0rogfar | June 11, 2014 | Review of Victoria II: Songs of the Civil War DLC
In this DLC you get extra songs for the American Civil War. The American Civil War is handled very well in Victoria 2 (it has it own expansion) and is therefore a scenario that you will play often. Additional high-quality music is very nice to have when doing this scenario often. The music goes very well with the time period too. Buy it.
Worth it for the CSA playthroughm0rogfar | June 11, 2014 | Review of Victoria II: AHD American Civil War Spritepack
If you are a good Victoria 2 player then you will no doubt enjoy playing as the CSA in the American Civil War. This sprite pack goes perfectly for that and therefore feels good and important. Additionally the appearance of the sprites is in one of the start dates meaning you get to see them instantly and that is nice. Since this is not true for the Interwar packs this pack is better for that reason alone. I recommend this once you know the game very well.
The cavalry packm0rogfar | June 11, 2014 | Review of Victoria II: Interwar Cavalry Unit Pack
This is most likely the best Victoria 2 interwar pack. Cavalry is fun to use and important for army composition in the game. However some of them are hard to tell from each other during actual gameplay. But these cavaly sprites feel nice to have unlike the other two packs. Get it at some point.
It does what it is supposed to dom0rogfar | June 11, 2014 | Review of Victoria II: Interwar Spritepack
This cosmetical DLC for Victoria 2 adds new uniforms during the interwar period of the game. These uniforms are nice but it is hard to tell the difference between the uniforms and they don't really feel worth it unless you really care a lot about these things or you study interwar history. Get it in the bundle as it is how you should buy Victoria 2.
Kill your first two sons so number three inherits your kingdom.m0rogfar | June 10, 2014 | Review of Crusader Kings II
The situation described above is a typical part of Crusader Kings 2. It could be for any reason. Maybe he had better stats? Maybe it was because if you have more children your death would cause your kingdom to be split up between your sons. Crusader Kings 2 is a game about family and medieval ages. You play as a noble in the medieval ages and you simply do what you want. You don't have to be the nations leader. You can also play as one of his (or her) vassals. There aren't that many limitations that cannot be overcome by waiting and doing other things. It is amazing! The feeling of freedom to do what you want is great. Another thing i love about this game is that the developers go quite a bit out of the way to support modding. This leads to many great mods that deserves to be checked out. Buy it.
Ace Patrol Reviewm0rogfar | June 10, 2014 | Review of Sid Meier's Ace Patrol
Ace Patrol is a decent strategy game. It's turn-based but with a twist. Your airplanes (the units) are affected by momentum and can only move certain ways. Your pilots then learn special moves to make them move certain ways. This is a nice unique feature because it is different from other games. However this feature is also the games biggest flaw. Due to the fact that you can not see where you can move in the next turn and when you can attack it can get hard to plan ahead. It's not an issue in most cases however sometimes it is annoying because you were wrong. Additionally i would have loved to have more units on each stage. But it is still fun. I recommend this game. You haven't lost much if you don't like it.
Freshing op France and Brittain.m0rogfar | May 29, 2014 | Review of Europa Universalis IV: Colonial British and French Unit pack
Colonisation by France and Great Britain happens in almost every game. This cosmetical DLC is great because it is unique and awesome. The new models seem a little different when you look at them. This makes them feel very unique and since they happen in almost every game you get to see them often. I just love how they look and it puts a smile on my face when i see them. Recommended by yours truly.
Nice modelsm0rogfar | May 29, 2014 | Review of Europa Universalis IV: Trade Nations Unit Pack
This is a cosmetical DLC and it is a good one! The sprites are some of the best we have seen for EU4 DLCs yet. I really like the ones Novgorod got as they really stand out. Aragons are good enough to motivate playing as them instead of Castille. The Hansas do look great with some dark colours compared to everyone else. Genoa on the other hand is bright but not in a bad way. I think this is the best cosmetical DLC for EU4 out yet!
Wealth of Awesome!m0rogfar | May 29, 2014 | Review of Europa Universalis IV: Wealth of Nations
This expansion is so good. The main feature is trade companies that allow you to make your Asian and African provinces into trade machines. The new Hindu dieties makes india even more fun. The new fervor system for the reformed faith makes the reformation even more fun! I wish that they had made the trade system more linear but this expansion is still worth it.
