Fun with Friends

moodath | July 9, 2013 | Review of Dead Island - PC

Dead Island, in a nutshell, is Borderlands meets zombies. It uses the same 'diablo-esque' loot system (a die is rolled on zombie death to determine if an item drops, another is rolled to determine quality, another rolled for stats, etc) so if you enjoy upgrading your character's gear, theres a chance to do that here. Progression is also done through an early-WoW like talent tree in which you can spend points to improve your abilities. The story is almost non-existent and will most likely be ignored, but the saving grace of the game is the 4 player multiplayer. In fact, I would argue its the only grace of the game. Playing this game alone is downright boring and repetative. Theres only about 5 different types of zombies that you'll be encountering throughout your 8-9 hour playthrough, and the combat gets tedious fast. But if you have 3 friends to go along with you, it can be a decently entertaining ride.
