It's not a typical role playing game! And that's fine.moomphas | April 11, 2011 | Review of ArcaniA: Gothic 4
The reason I write this short review is that I cannot agree with people comparing this game to a "brick". Their disappointment surely results from their expectations. They wanted another instalment of Gothic. But it's not a RPG anymore. It's an action adventure game with a touch of RPG elements. Don't launch this game until you agree with this fact. Once you agree to that then I'm happy to announce that a breath-taking adventure awaits. The atmospehere, gameplay, graphics, dialogues and the length of the game are definitely pros of Arcania. Unluckily it's a bit too easy and doesn't give you much freedom. And some publishers (yes, for example you GMG :)) don't allow the buyer to choose the language they want to play in (btw english voiceover in this game is poor). To sum it up - it's really worth buying, but only when you want an action adventure game, not a RPG.
The king of stealth action games!moomphas | April 11, 2011 | Review of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell
The game used to astonish with visuals, was the first serious FPP stealth action game which revolutionised its genre. Sneaking up in the shadows and using high-tech devices to successfuly accomplish objectives was something that I won't forget about. If I were to point out the best Splinter Cell, I would pick this one. But note that graphics won't take you aback any longer and some game mechanics will not seem fresh. But still - if you haven't tried the king of stealth games so far you need to catch it up. It's only a fiver.
Worth tryingmoomphas | April 11, 2011 | Review of Hacker Evolution
Apart from Hacker Evolution I know only one game about hackers - Uplink, which in fact I haven't played yet. But let's stick to the former. I grabbed it when it was for free (a promotion offer), although I'm not a big fan of hacking. I played through a couple of levels till I got stuck and didn't know what to do :) It discouraged me a little bit but the game got me busy for a couple of hours and providing that I'm not really into this kind of games, it's a good recommendation. If you would like to check how it is to be a hacker then it might be worth giving Hacker Evolution a try.
Not interesting at allmoomphas | April 11, 2011 | Review of Luxor: Quest for the Afterlife
Another (4th?) Luxor game which brings nothing new to the genre. Just shoot those colourful balls and repeat it like a milion times. It may be fun for the first 30 minutes but it gets boring afterwards. Not challenging, brain-numbing - simply not worth any money. Even if it had been for free, I don't think I would recommend playing it. There are many better casual games than this one.
Loot, loot, loot! :)moomphas | April 4, 2011 | Review of Borderlands
At first I couldn't believe that a mix of RPG, FPS and Hack'n'Slash with cell-shading graphics can work out. But it actually did. There is nothing better than to team up with your friends and try together to slay those evil creatures :) And it's even better when you get sth out of it - as in any RPG game there is loads of loot to collect, which encourages you to continue playing and get even better stuff. And that's because better gear means the ability of getting rid of tougher monsters and better chance of accomplishing harder missions. It really absorbs. The best recommendation is that I didn't even notice that it took me more than 20 hours to finish it - I never felt bored playing it, however sometimes some stupid grinding may appear. If you hadn't grabbed the game before, do it now as it's worth giving a chance to it.
Quite a nice surprisemoomphas | April 4, 2011 | Review of Sniper: Ghost Warrior PRE
When I was reading reviews they weren't convincing me at all to buy this game. So I waited till it appeared at a discount price and gave it a try. And I was quite surprised, I must say. Although the system requirements are quite low, the graphics are astonishing. And the bullet time effect rocks :) Not many game developers decided to create a sniper game, so it's always nice to see a product which not only lets you play as a sniper, but which is also interesting. The only one disadvantage is the length of the game. Sniper: Ghost Warrior can be finished in something like 4 hours. But still - worth buying!
Good but could be bettermoomphas | April 4, 2011 | Review of Aliens vs Predator Pre
Quite a decent game for a fiver but I wouldn't recommend buying it for more dosh. The singleplayer, however short, was a good experience but lacking some more epic moments. If you're thinking of getting this game only for multi, then... forget about it. This part was completely disappointing for me - most encounters were like trying to get your victim from behind and press 'e' to perform a quick-kill which your opponent cannot block. To sum it up > not bad graphics, average sounds, good-but-could-be-better singleplayer and disappointing multi. Get it as long as it's in bargain bucket.
