I am a huge fan of The Walking Dead and zombies in general but I went into this game expecting a lot after hearing it game called a masterpiece and absolutely stunning and so on. I was not disappointed. This game IS a masterpiece. It has characters you really care about, moments that will absolutely horrify you, stun you, amuse you and more. This game plays on almost your full range of emotions. The times you have to make decisions is actually a struggle, these decisions matter and they are difficult and chances are you will second guess yourself. I guess what all this comes down to is this game is as about as real as a game can get, which makes it a truly incredible experience.
Singleplayer is good, Co-op is great.nomis77 | Sept. 29, 2013 | Review of Borderlands
This is simply a very enjoyable shooter. It has a fantastic sense of humour Great range of weapons and a nice range of characters with unique abilities, which will fit most players and the style of combat they prefer. You will have a lot of fun playing this, singleplayer is enjoyable but the real joy is in co-op, my flatmate and I spent a lot of hours playing this game, and barely noticed them passing. The story is nothing brilliant and the end is a bit of a disappointment but that doesn't really take away from the hours of enjoyment you will get along the way.
This is a fantastic game.nomis77 | Sept. 29, 2013 | Review of Bioshock Infinite
This game has a great story, great gameplay and an ending that will be on your mind for days if not weeks after finishing it. That said it is not perfect, I think too many people are going into it expecting perfection. It is flawed but despite those flaws it is still a brilliant game. The gameplay is excellent, there's a great range of weapons and vigors that makes it very exciting. Combinations of these is a great addition too. Unlike the first game, you can only carry two weapons at a time, but I found this made for strategic gameplay, rather than going in guns blazing, and switching weapons when out of ammo (which is how I played the first...). People have complained about Elizabeth offering ammo, health and salts etc makes the game too easy. While I did find Infinite less challenging than the first it is still a very rewarding experience and occasionally I was very grateful for Elizabeth's help. The story is amazing, as anyone who has played the first would know to expect. All through the game it is an absolute joy to be drawn into and slowly unravel the mysteries floating around Columbia. The ending is superb, even though it does feel a little rush, and coming to fully understand it (although I am not sure I do just yet) is a very rewarding experience). And of course there's Columbia itself, which is absolutely beautiful. It's really wonderful to explore when you aren't fighting for your life... All in all, a wonderful shooter, visually pleasing with a great story, unlikely to disappoint.
I loved this game.nomis77 | Sept. 28, 2013 | Review of BioShock
And believe me I did not expect to. I am not big on shooters (co-op on Borderlands being the sum of my experience before playing this game) and games seem to scare me more than most movies ever could, but I really did love this game. The graphics are fantastic and the setting is so fully realised, and so well executed that you are fully immersed from the very beginning. The history of the setting is so well thought out that the collectibles are a joy to find, letting you find out more about everything that has happened in this once great city. The gameplay is great, with many weapons and powers to keep things new and exciting. There's also the opportunity to hack bots and turrets which is a great addition to combat, ultimately leaving you with a lot of choice in how you handle the combat. The story is brilliantly executed, never lagging, with an ending that will leave you very satisfied, and maybe just a little mind blown. If you like shooters or can generally enjoy most games with a good story, like me, then this is a must play.
Great game!nomis77 | Sept. 28, 2013 | Review of Tomb Raider
I had heard good things so I decided to give this game a shot, and I am so glad I did. I have not played any other Tomb Raider games so I can't really comment on how this game measures up to them. Tomb Raider does so much so well. The graphics are stunning and everything just looks great. The story is a good one, nothing brilliant or ground breaking, but just a good linear story. Many have said that Lara becomes a hardened survivor a little too quickly but I didn't feel that this is a big issue when trying to enjoy the game. The combat and stealth moments are great, with the many upgrades to weapons, combat and exploring keeping things fresh throughout the game. There's a decent number of collectibles too, which is good if like me you like dedicating a little time to those, some of which give some interesting additional information too. I haven't given the multiplayer a shot but I can say that the main game is a satisfying enough experience to be absolutely worth it.
Simply amazing.nomis77 | Sept. 28, 2013 | Review of Batman Arkham City: Game of the Year
Before playing this I would have thought it would be very hard to improve on Batman Arkham Asylum but this game made it look easy... Batman Arkham City takes almost everything that was great about Arkham Asylum and makes it so much better. For me the only exception to this is the story. I love the story of Arkham City but for me Arkham Asylum's was just a little better, but don't get me wrong, they are both truly great. The gameplay is, of course, great. Taking what was great in Asylum and making it excellent. It flows better, there are more moves and more gadgets, making clearing a room even more satisfying. The stealth is excellent, but if you want to really appreciate all the way to take someone out, play the challenge maps. The side missions are a great addition, and you will be as invested in them as you are the main storyline. Finally if you enjoyed the collectibles in the first game, or if you enjoy collectibles in general you will love this game. It is true the number of them can be a little overwhelming but if you take the time during the storyline you can find a pretty large chunk of them. Also adding the option of interrogating Riddler's men for collectible locations was a great idea, adding another challenge to the combat, helping to keep it fresh. Long story short if you are interested enough to be here chances are you will enjoy this game, so do yourself a favour and buy it.
Everyone should experience this game.nomis77 | Sept. 28, 2013 | Review of Batman: Arkham Asylum Game of the Year
I love this game. Before playing this game I was never a big Batman fan, I liked the Nolan films and that was about it. This game was such a great experience, with such a rich story it left me utterly obsessed with Batman. The story is excellent, for me it never slows, and moves seamlessly through so many great villains. I have heard others say they found it a bit repetitive, you will find yourself moving through areas you have explored previously, but always with a new mission, which for me was enough to keep it fresh. The combat is great, perfect for beginners but also difficult enough in hard mode to provide a challenge for experienced gamers. And it is just so satisfying pulling off a massive combo. Stealth moments are also very well done, with a great range of possible take downs, playing the challenge maps is a great way to learn more... This game is also full of collectibles which I absolutely love, the Riddler's taunts make it very satisfying to find them too. Many collectibles also give info on villains seen in the game, and many that aren't included the game which is great if you're a nerd like me. If I had any complaints it would be a lack of side-missions, but the story is certainly enough to keep you interested and the sequel more than makes up for that. So those are my thought on the game, I am sure I missed something but I promise you if this sounds good to you then you will not be disappointed.
