A brilliant game!

rossa14 | June 2, 2013 | Review of Sleeping Dogs - PC

Open world GTA-style gameplay, an undercover cop, a Hong Kong action movie - it is a combination that sparks the interest of a lot of gamers, me included. This is one of those new IP's that come along and 'wow' a whole community of gamers. Some may compare it to GTA, but honestly, it deserves more than that; the story, the gameplay, the characters, it's all wonderfully crafted into a great experience that you will not regret putting you hard earned cash down for. You do have to wonder what Activision is thinking now though don't you? They have others games which aren't even classified as average, yet they let this game go. I am sure they had their reasons, but are they looking back and thinking what could have been? My guess is yes. Don't be like Activision, don't look back and wonder what could have been. Buy this game and you wont regret it!

Very fun, but the soundtrack will be missed.

rossa14 | June 2, 2013 | Review of Crazy Taxi (1) - PC

Crazy Taxi is one of those games which seems simple on paper, yet can provide endless fun if in the right mood. You take the role of a taxi driver, pick up random and sometimes weird passengers, and then deliver them around the city with crazy car physics helping you get there in hilarious style. All that remains here from the original, and even today it can still provide a lot of fun, which shows how well it has stood the test of time; even without The Offspring in the background. The lack of the original soundtrack is something that will be missed, but it is still a great game. Recommended.

Could have been better

rossa14 | June 2, 2013 | Review of Duke Nukem Forever - PC

This game had been under development for quite some time before it finally saw the light of day, 15 years in fact. After all that time you can understand gearbox wanting to get it out the door so it can make some money; unfortunately, boring gameplay and a story that is nothing to write home about makes this one game that can be OK if picked up cheap, but not at full price. Maybe it would been better received 10-15 years ago when the expectation of gamers was different? We will sadly never know.

This game will be remembered for one thing.....

rossa14 | April 17, 2013 | Review of Dirt Showdown - PC

.....And that one thing is the fact that in creating this game, Codemasters may now be able to put less "extreme sports" focus in their main DiRT games from now on. My first thoughts about this game were that the cars felt a bit slow; you don't really get a good sense of speed or feel that on-track excitement you might expect from games in the series (even in compared to similar modes from the main DiRT games). Maybe that's down to the lack of a cockpit view? Or maybe that's just part of the of the whole smash-em-up style the developers were going for? Either way, it's a game that - after an hour - will make you wonder what more it has to offer you; and that just isn't a good thing if you are expected to put down your hard earned cash. It's an OK game if you can get it cheap enough, and It's good if you are looking to kill a bit of time..... Just don't expect that amount of time to be big though.

Not perfect, but a good alternative to DiRT

rossa14 | April 17, 2013 | Review of WRC 3 - PC

Do you like rally games, but think the DiRT series isn't quite what you are looking for these days? Well this game might be for you. I played the first WRC from these guys and at that time you could tell they were fairly new to this type of game; as a whole, there wasn't much there to get excited about. Fast forward to WRC3 and they are now doing quite a good job at hitting the sweet spot for what makes a good rally game (in terms of how it plays [Car physics, ect...]). The graphics still aren't amazing, but are far from what you could call terrible; at the same time though, the engine seems to hold up well without any major issues or slowdowns. The audio is also quite good, ranging from the music in the menus and loading screens, down to the pace notes (which by the way can be tuned to be called out later or earlier than normal depending on preference). Overall, it's not bad for a developer that mostly does motorbike games, and it's a game that does a good job of recreating the official FIA championship as it stands today. Well worth checking out for rally fans.
