Too many ideas not enough funsamtman | Feb. 24, 2013 | Review of Brutal Legend
I had high hopes for this game. I love the idea of a game built around the rock world. There are positives to this game the characters are genuinely funny and well though out and some of the dialogue makes you laugh out loud. Jack Black, Ozzy et al make this game tolerable. The music is good too if you are a fan of metal. The rest of the game is not as good. The game is an open world game of sorts but is bland with not enough to warrant going anywhere apart from a to b. this makes the world crafted pointless. Just when you think it is just an action adventure game it changes. There then are a number of simplistic RTS battles which are completely out of place. These are either too easy or stupidly hard with no middle ground and they are not fun or interesting either. I am a fan of Tim Schafer and had high hopes for this game especially with the subject matter but feel it is trying to do too many things and ultimately doesn't make any of them anything more than adequate which is not a word I often use when gaming.
Batman is Backsamtman | May 26, 2012 | Review of Batman: Arkham City
After Arkham Asylum I was very much looking forward to this. It is a great game but feel it falls short of the first game. I missed the scarecrow moments and the moments where the game messes with your head. It is still enjoyable and you will waste so much time trying to do the ? challenges.
The game is a lot more open world than the first with a lot more side missions. The combat has been kept from the first with just a few tweaks to help with the flow of combat.
The catwoman missions are also fun and a welcome distraction from the main story although they do intertwine. Worth it for any Batman fan or fans of the first game. If I had to rate the first game it would get around 90 so this gets slightly less but still worthwhile.
The Return Of Destrucition Derbysamtman | May 26, 2012 | Review of DiRT Showdown
First up if you are after the rallying of the dirt series you will need to look elsewhere.
This game is fun something that has been missing along time in the racing genre. The game contains quite a number of different types of events including normal races, knockout, 8 ball and Hoonigan events. Compared to earlier dirt games this is lacking in content especially in the career mode. Accept it is not a realistic game and you will enjoy it knowing you can be crusing along in 1st and all of a sudden someone smashes you and you end up in 8th. The addition of boost is a nice feature to mean you can catch up when lagging behind after a smash.
This game would have had a lot higher a mark if it had more courses and content but still a worthwhile purchase if you are after a change from playing racing sims. Just remember this is not dirt 4 but a spinoff.
