I'm Batman!

shinobihitokiri | Oct. 24, 2013 | Review of Batman: Arkham Asylum Game of the Year

Batman Arkham Asylum is a great game that lets you feel like a Dark Knight. The graphics are good and detailed, the voiceover is great (Mark Hamill as a Joker!). The story is interesting and the DC villain characters are well used in it. Combat mechanics are fluid, and easy to use and master. There is also use for gadgets and upgrades to them. From explosive gel, to remote controlled batarang or grappling hook. Level design is clever, but the game is nos as big or "sandboxy" as Arkham City. In AA you are trapped on the Arkham Island which may not be big, but has lots of buildings or underground tunnels that you can enter (and they are seperate "levels"). The only thing that could be better are the boss fights. Most of them depends only on dodging attacks and spamming batarangs. The game also has collectibles in form of diares of Amadeus Arkham, tapes vith conversations with the villains and Riddler challenges. Overall this is very good game, and is as close as it can get to "being a Batman" experience.
