Best game I've played in a whilesirf | Jan. 7, 2014 | Review of Far Cry 3
Far Cry 3 is an excellent return to form after the mixed reception of its predecessor. The game features a ton of activities to do, beautiful graphics and an unforgettable story with an antagonist that will leave an indelible mark on you. The following is a summary of my experiences with the game:
The gameplay of Far Cry 3 is a joy. Gun battles are very satisfying while a stealthy approach can also be taken in most scenarios. As the game is set out in a large tropical area, you can approach enemies from any angle and really plan out your attack. Whether you decide to snipe enemies from afar using a silenced sniper rifle or run in 'gun blazing', almost every engagement will feel new and you will be forced to adapt accordingly. An example of this was when I went into an enemy base planning to quietly kill every one inside with my machete. I didn't notice that they had guard dogs, which attacked. I panicked and threw a grenade which ignited some explosive barrels causing a wild fire killing everything (including some wildlife). The wildlife in the game are not present exclusively for aesthetic purposes. Wildlife need to be hunted in order to upgrade your equipment. You also gain experience when killing which allows you to obtain new skills.
Far Cry 3 features amazing graphics. From a technical perspective, it is enjoyable to run around the area which features open grasslands and dense jungles that has streaks of sunlight shining through. The area is teeming with wildlife that actively hunt and avoid each other. Although the technical details on the wildlife (animations, AI etc) have room for improvement, they definitely add to the experience of the game.
Story: The story of Far Cry 3 was very memorable. Characters are believable with voice acting being top notch. There were twists that I didn't see coming and I was entertained from start to finish. As mentioned previously, the main antagonist of the game is one of the most memorable characters in recent years.
In conclusion, Far Cry 3 is a must buy if you're an FPS fan. It breaks the mold on conventional industry norms by adding meaningful RPG elements, an open approach to combat and an engaging story. I've spend over 100 hours playing this game and it certainly has been great value for money.
