MMO meets story!

skyforger | May 3, 2013 | Review of Defiance Post - PC

I went into this blind, a few days before it was out I decided to pre order it and I am so glad I did. Most mmo's you grind to the end paying no attention to surroundings or story only to xp and your abilities. Well that has changed with this title, I loved the story from start to finish. I did every main mission and side mission before I tried anything else, and that took me about 50 hours alone. It is so engaging if you like sci fi, very well done and can be humorous at times aswell. There is also a tv show tie in on syfy atm, which is very well done so far. You will be watching it and quotes from the game will pop up and put a big smile on your face. One of the only mmo's where I was hooked on the story. Now onto the mmo features, you have about 5 dungeons, that play with 3 other people, you kill stuff get xp loot. They can be very challenging and the boss fights are amazing, and very rewarding to beat, you have to hit certain points make it vulnerable and work as a team to take it down. You can res each other as well, so team work is important. You then have two different pvp maps, that play out very differently, and will reward xp and loot badges to buy chests to obtain guns and shields from. You will go through alot of guns, and that is one of my favorite parts of the game. Its like borderlands, but there are so many different "classes" of guns, that will keep changing the game up. You can choose from 4 main abilities, stealth/speed/distraction(illusion)/increased damage, all last for a certain amount of time. You then expand on those by putting "ego" points into other choices to build your character. This is the equivalent of a skill tree in other mmo's. You also have shadow wars which is a large scale 60 person pvp match that is hectic and alot of fun. You have challenges scattered all about the maps of this game aswell, to compete and earn more ego rank. Even driving about in this game is a complete blast, taking in the scenery and trying to jump gaps. I put 200 hours in the first 2-3 weeks easily, this game is very addictive, the only downside and why I think its not perfect is atm there is not alot of end game content. I really do hope this will change, though atm I would say 200 hours is a great amount of content for a one off payment. I whole heartedly recommend this game, if you like sci fi/mmo's/loot fests/3rd person shooters.

A great story with amazing atmosphere.

skyforger | May 3, 2013 | Review of Hitman Absolution NA - PC

As the title suggests, I went into this game blind with no expectations and on a £4.99 GMG sale. I was pleasantly surprised, the game is amazing. The graphics and atmosphere are what sold me at first. Every map/area has been crafted so well, to fit the story and gritty/adult theme of the game. Beautiful lighting in every area, with particles that reflect in them, it really is an eye candy sort of game. It also ran very well on my gtx 670 with every setting turned up to full The story was great as well, it played out like some action blockbuster film, with alot of adult themes to it. With some off collar comedy, it kept me entertained from start to finish. I beat it in two sessions on the hardest difficulty that is available to you to begin with. It was so good I could not put it down, I wanted to know what happened next in the story. I do not want to spoil anything, it might not be the most original story, but it is engaging and gripping from start to finish. The actual gameplay is alot of fun as well, you feel like an expertly crafted assassin/hitman, that can take any number of targets. The guns handle very well in this, and the stealth mechanics are nice. You can play with any playstyle you want as well, though will not be rewarded for going guns ablaze rambo style. As each civilian or non target casualty will result in points being deducted from your score. So I had to play alot of missions over again to get it perfect. Either way the combat/gameplay is alot of fun and very rewarding. For the price it is at now, I would say this is worth it all the way. Though remember the story is rather short.

Tim burton meets minecraft

skyforger | April 30, 2013 | Review of Dont Starve - PC

Ok so its more Tim Burton meets Bears Grylls, haha. The game is about exactly what the title suggests, its all about surviving. I.E, do not starve, which may not sound great but in execution it plays out excellently. The game is heaps of fun, and very challenging which is what adds to the fun in my opinion. You will die, at first very often. Though this is part of the experience, learning how to survive next time, learning from your little or even big mistakes. It has so much depth, with so much to craft and gather. From basics like tools/weapons to science and alchemy machines. There are alot of creatures to fight/avoid/run from and bosses. The game uses a permanent death feature which works very well in this, though there is a few ways to make sure you re spawn when you die. Like altars, if you find them you will re spawn, though I think there is only two per map, there are other ways as well. The art style is what drew me in, I love how unique and out there it is. While being a bit bleak and despairing at the same time, it serves the grave/depressing theme of the game of trying not to die. For an indie game that I got for £10 I cannot recommend this enough.

Truly an artistic wonder.

skyforger | April 23, 2013 | Review of Dishonored Nextway - PC

Once ever few years a new IP is born and it takes everyone by surprise. I went into this game blind, with no expectations or hype built around it and took a gamble and, it payed off big time. This game is refreshing, the story instantly sucks you in. The gameplay/combat is amazing, it really is perfect for this type of game. The stealth mechanics are great while being forgiving at the same time. The beautifully crafted picturesque world is a joy you play through and explore as you complete each missions. While the game can be linear at times, it often does offer multiple paths to complete each mission that you may choose to best suit your style of gameplay. The story had me hooked from start to finish, I rushed it my first play through just to see it, then went back and took my time for the gameplay. The characters are very interesting as well, some of the characters can range from crazy to insanely bizarre. Overall the game sucked me in and spat me out, left feeling very satisfied. I would whole heartedly recommend giving this a shot. My only complaint was the textures at times were terrible, like really bad. But the art style made up for it, can be a little dull looking at times though overall a beautiful game.
