Put your diapers ontangoak | Aug. 3, 2011 | Review of Penumbra Black Plague - PC
Damn this game is scary! Penumbra Black Plague is survival horror and also physics based game so you will have use physics to solve problems. You don't basically have anything to fight scary monsters but you have to try to hide or run away. The game has innovative way to interact with the world. Atmosphere is scary and very intensive. Music supports gameplay greatly.
Streamlined RTStangoak | Aug. 2, 2011 | Review of Darwinia - PC
At first Darwinia feels like a crippled RTS. But after a while it is appears to be a very streamlined RTS. There are barely any unnecessary things and feels like good old Cannon Fodder but looks like Tron. Levels are filled with many nice details. There are only three unit types and those cute little Darwinians. Units are replaceable since it doesn't cost anything to build new ones. As the game goes by you get upgrades to units. Units manage by themselves but it takes from time to time little too much micromanagement because AI is sometimes little stupid. Darwinia is a sympathetic little game which is not very long though.
Best you can gettangoak | Aug. 2, 2011 | Review of IL2 Sturmovik 1946 - PC
Il2-Sturmovik 1946 is so far the best WW2 flying simulator. This compilation includes every expansion pack (Forgotten Battles, Ace Expansion Pack and Pacific Fighters) plus new aircraft, maps and campaigns. Graphics look great with little tweaking and flying feels good. There are lots of mods and other improvements to load from the internet. There are endless possibilities with this game thanks to a Full Mission Builder, campaign generators and great modding community.
Super challenging platformertangoak | Aug. 2, 2011 | Review of Super Meat Boy - PC
This game is a very well done platformer with high challenge level. Levels require very precise timing and it takes try after try to pass them. But it is not frustrating because it is so convenient to try again. Music rocks and plenty of collectibles keep you playing this game again and again. There is also level editor and levels can be shared so there will be no end to playing. There are also multiple unlockable characters which have different abilities.
Duke is back with a facelifttangoak | July 26, 2011 | Review of Duke Nukem Forever - PC
After having tried demo of Duke Nukem Forever I was disappointed. Then I started to think about it and thought that is how Duke Nukem Forever should be. Duke Nukem Forever feels like the original Duke Nukem 3D from 1996. Only the graphics is better. Duke is same tough guy as before. He has many god one-liners and makes fun of many things. Too bad that this game haven't evolved since the Duke Nukem 3D. Duke Nukem Forever is only a generic shooter with bad AI. If you're fan of Duke Nukem then this is a game for you and can add 10 more points to score. For others there are many other better shooters.
Too grand strategytangoak | July 26, 2011 | Review of Europa Universalis III Complete - PC
Europa Universalis is my first grand strategy game and I found it hard to like this game. It didn't never caught my interest. I would rather play civilization than this game. Maybe it would be great game if I had the time to learn it more. One of the problems is that game doesn't tell enough how every choice affect to game. And maybe some sort of goal would assist player to do something. I also found myself wondering where something is happening because I didn't find the place from map there is no option to move camera to every incident. There are also too many menus and options for a novice. However if you like this kind of games this game offer lots of replay value because there is so many things to do. Europa Universalis is also little buggy and tutorials didn't work.
Sneaking aroundtangoak | July 25, 2011 | Review of Thief deadly Shadows - PC
After playing too much FPS games Thief: Deadly Shadows is pleased change to more slow down playing. I found it very interesting to try not to kill anyone. It is very nice to sneak around guards and grab some loot at the same time. There are some graphical glitches and game suffers somewhat from console port. Atmosphere is really great and environment looks great. Sound scape is also good and it is interesting to eavesdrop people in the shadows. It is really exciting sneak past the guards and hope to slip unnoticed. If you like Splinter Cell series this is also game for you.
Twisted mixtangoak | July 25, 2011 | Review of Magicka Vietnam DLC - PC
Magicka: Vietnam DLC is a twisted mix of magics and Vietnam. Even more hilarious than original Magicka. Great DLC with new guns and enemies themed in Vietnam. Soundtrack fits also nicely to theme. Includes two challenge maps, new magick and new robe. Magicka: Vietnam DLC is also little more challenging than original Magicka which is a good thing.
Hack'n'magicktangoak | July 25, 2011 | Review of Magicka - PC
Magicka is quite unique game. You play as a wizard in detailed 2.5D environment. You fight againts imp, orcs, goblins, trolls, vampires and other creatures and also many big and dangerous bosses. You are equipped with magic staffs, weapons, firearms and spells. Spells are conjured by combining eight elements and two subelements in a queue of five. All elements cannot be combined together because every elemets has it's opposites. Certain combinations are better than other and there are also magicks that are spells that you learn by picking up magic books. Magicka is called as an action-adventure game but I would call it as hack'n'magic. Some say that Magicka is an RPG game but it is simply wrong as it doesn't have typical RPG elements such as inventory, level-ups and quests. Plot is simple but it gives a good reason to cast your way through the many hilarious battles. Magicka is loosely based Norse mythology and it makes fun of RPG games and contains many humorous popcultural references. Humorous dialogue is voice-acted in part-english and part-swedish gibberish wich makes nice contradiction between written dialogue. Single player is nice in little doses but there is little problem as it is not possible to save game between levels. Multiplayer is pure fun and chaotic. Game is still from time to time little buggy and network game is laggy. Magicka is great game and really worth the price.
Asteroids powered with your musictangoak | April 5, 2011 | Review of Beat Hazard - PC
Nice Asteroids clone with a twist of music. It is like playing asteroids but with Winamp visualization glued on. Visuals are great, like a disco in your room. Play with your own music and blast space rocks and enemy ships away. Different music generates different enemies and affects to the firepower your spaceship. If you want to score high you will have to pick right music and collect power ups. Game involves also some tactics as dodging bullets and asteroids instead of shooting around increases score multiplier. Beat hazard is a great game but lacks some variety.
Not any shootertangoak | April 5, 2011 | Review of Borderlands - PC
Broderlands goes above any standard shooter thanks to rpg elements and content generation system which makes lots of different guns, enemies, weapons and items. Shoot your way through enemies collecting loot and new weapons and leveling up. However singleplayer gets little boring so make sure to have enough friends for 4 player Co-op.
Build and smiletangoak | April 4, 2011 | Review of World of Goo - PC
World of Goo is a game where you try to get your goo balls to pipe. To achiece this you must build large construction using different kinds of goo balls. There are many kinds of goo balls and they have their own special abilities. If you want challenge every level has objective how many balls you must get to the pipe. To get some extra challenge there is also even strickter limit completing which you get and extra award. You can even compete with other players all over the world trying to build the highest tower. Graphics and music are personal and fits the game perfectly. There is very good humour in game and it will make you laugh many times. World of Goo is a nice game that will make you smile. If you like Bride Builder or Pontifex this is a game for you.
Engrossing adventuretangoak | April 4, 2011 | Review of Trine - PC
Trine. What can I say. I fell in love with this game. Trine is like a dream. You guide three characters througout diverse environment using magic, force and dexterity. Matti Pulkkinen has composed a perfect soundtrack that makes every place feel like different. Your characters develop new abilities on their journey to safe the kingdom. Thera are many secrets to discover and you will find yourself many times coming back to game to find them all.
Almost perfecttangoak | April 4, 2011 | Review of Mafia II - PC
Mafia is a game for those who prefer open world games with no extra side quest. Atmosphere in Mafia 2 is awesome. I almost found myself many times from ditch when I was admiring the view. The city of Empire Bay is large and it takes a while to drive from place to place. There are many kinds of places in Empire Bay and places are recognizable after you have drove back and forth few times. Music is awesome: music is performed by Prague Filmharmonic Orchestra and you can hear tracks from 1940’s and 50s artist while driving car. Gameplay is good even though driving car is little hard with mouse and keyboard. I recommend using gamepad while driving. Mafia 2 is a very good game but it has some minor glitch. I want more of this!
Annoying game that gets you hookedtangoak | April 4, 2011 | Review of VVVVVV - PC
VVVVVV is simple platformer with very high difficulty level. It is simple because you don't have many controls: you move your character and use only one button to control gravity. Difficulty comes from controlling gravity very precisely to avoid laser beams and other dangers. VVVVVV could be described as a mix of Super Meat Boy and Braid. Game remainds me of Super Meat Boy as both are easy approachable but hard to master. VVVVVV is little like Braid as you have to control gravity to your benefit. Even though game is hard it is nice to play and it is easy and quick to try again. There are many checkpoints so you won't have to swear the difficulty. Graphics and music warms those who are to retro games. Recommended. There is also demo available so give it a try!
