Not for everyone, but a step beyond gaming world.viju | Aug. 22, 2012 | Review of L.A. Noire: The Complete Edition
LA noire is a different sandbox. It not about going freely anywhere and killing lots of people, because in fact you are a policeman and have to do just the opposite. LA noire is totally focus on the story of each individual case. It also has a main story, but is over all focus in each particular case. As a detective, you will have to go to the crime scene, find evidences and clues, interrogating suspects, sometimes chasing them on foot or by car and some other times, maybe just once per case, taking your gun and start shooting. So don't make a mistaken idea about the game. It is about investigating, thinking and paying attention to the details, to the face of your suspects to know if they are lying, etc. It is an adult game, not only because of the violent thematic, but also how they treat it. They do it seriously, not trying to hide behind jokes, or not showing the real violence. You will have to inspect dead naked women with evident signs of violence all over their body. You will discover a little girl that has been raped, etc. If you want just a shooter, this might not be your game. This game is about patience, about the stories, about thinking. I also recommend not to play it hardly in little time, because that way it can become repetitive. In my opinion, it is better to play maybe one case or two per day as much.
Not perfect, but really good and original.viju | Aug. 22, 2012 | Review of R.U.S.E.
Really interesting and original World War II RTS. The game is heavily focus on combat and tactics rather than in gathering resources, which is obviously important too as long as you can try to cut your enemies supply lines, and you will need a large amount of credits to do the powerful units. Ruse is about hiding, fighting and taking strategic positions. It is about combining the proper types of units in order to succeed. Ruse is about pretending you are doing one thing, while actually you are doing a different one. Ruse is about deception and striking heavily your opponent in the precise time. The campaign is quite entertaining and the missions are varied enough to enjoy it from the start to the end. Despite the campaign is good, the multiplayer is supposed to be the key part of the game, and as long as I have tried it, it is also really interesting, because you will have to adapt to many different situations, and you will need to do it quickly.
Just action.viju | July 3, 2012 | Review of Just Cause 2
This game is not about the story, but about exploring, destroying and experimenting with the hook and parachute. Forget about covers, you won't need them.
The game offers varied missions from the main story and lots of secondary objectives, as well as a really huge map, where you will need to move by helicopter or plane. You have to free the island from its tyrannical leader, how? Well, it's not very complex, just destroy as much governmental or military structures as you can, while you complete missions from the US or the different factions settled in the island that want to rise and get the power.
Travel using many types of vehicles, discover new places, unlock better guns finding upgrades that are all over the island, bomb oil stations, gas tanks, power suppliers, statues, fight against the army with your weapons or using creatively your hook, jump from skylines, use your parachute and land on a car to get it.
The amount of things to do is as huge as the map, it just depends on how you want to play, and how long you want the game to be.
Really good game, bad policy.viju | June 30, 2012 | Review of Battlefield 3
I have played this game only in multiplayer, so that's the only part I can talk about.
In one word, I would say this game is awesome. In more words, it's a well balanced game between simulation and arcade, making a good mixture of tactical and quick gameplay. It's better if you play with friends, or at least cooperating with your squad, that will give you more points and you will see how this game should be played.
Unfortunately, it has some nasty maps that are usually an explosion party more than a real battle between soldiers, that makes them playable properly only in hardcore mode (with friendly fire, people don't tend so much to indiscriminately throw grenades or fire rockets or grenade launcher). Actually, these maps are ok in hardcore mode.
In conclusion, it's a great game, well balanced, with different classes to choose, very customizable, but with a big con: it only has 8 maps, and some of them get a bit boring because they are almost one corridor with everyone shooting and throwing explosives without aiming. Another thing is that they will launch tons of DLC and the final price if you want everything will be the double.
Funny game, better with friends.viju | June 30, 2012 | Review of Magicka
A funny and strange game where you have to combine different elements in order to make magic, discovering powerful and sometimes weird spells (the amount of possible spells is huge). A really original game that is funny and entertaining in single player, but definitively much better in cooperative, where you will release the true chaos and death wherever you go.
But be careful, because if you don't control your power, you will end by killing your mates and make them explode in blood and flesh, making a funny and strange feeling of cooperation and competition at the same time, killing them "accidentally".
Actually, you will kill your mates, want it or not, so if that's gonna happen, try at least to make it worth it xD.
Nothing like this, specially on multiplayerviju | June 24, 2012 | Review of Mount & Blade: Warband DNS
Wonderful medieval fighting game. Despite not having the best graphics, or the best effects of physics, there's nothing like Mount & Blade gameplay. Although it started focusing in singleplayer, this title adds multiplayer, and it has become the real strength of the game, with an active community, many mods and lots of maps. It's easy to play but really difficult to master, because you can attack in 4 directions, but you'll have to parry in the same direction you are attacked. So you have to be very quick and experienced to stay alive after fighting your enemies. Choose between warrior (one handed or two handed, sword or axe, lance, hammer...), bowman, crossbowman and horseman, and get into an unforgiving and cruel battle, where team playing and being cautious, but at the same time brave will decide which team wins.
One of the best indie games.viju | June 24, 2012 | Review of World of Goo
This is without doubt one of the best puzzle indie games. The gameplay is original and really good, the design is wonderful, the music is great... Enought difficult to be a challenge but not frustrating, with a lot of different levels that have to be beaten in a different way depending on the type of goo balls available.
If you like indie games, you have to play it. If you don't like indie games, you should give it a try at least.
What a game should be likeviju | June 21, 2012 | Review of Deus Ex: Human Revolution
More games should be like this, a really mature and deep experience, that makes you think while you play, where you have to take decisions regarding ethical dilemmas...
Is it an RPG? A stealh game? A FPS? Well, it actually depends on how you want to play it, but I would say it's a good mix of genres, letting you choose how to encounter each situation.
The only bad point about this wonderful game is that, while you can see the big effort put into it, in each detail, you can also appreciate that it was not thought to be a massive seller, so the graphics aren't the best, neither are the animations, most of the enemies and citizens are the same, etc. Luckily, it doens't break the atmosphere and the game is still great.
Give it a chance if you want a deep game with a mature story, far from US saviors tipical one, where you will have to do much more things apart from shooting everything and everyone.
