Something differentxgatto | Aug. 5, 2012 | Review of Zeno Clash
Zeno Clash is I think the only one, if not one of the few first person fighting games. Most combat is involved around melee, whhich is very different to what we're used to. These combat mechanics work well, but start to get boring after playing for a while. Since its always the same, dodge, punch, kick, repeat. The graphics are all-right, just another source game. And the story... well, its not BAD but, it doesnt feel interesting or anything. I give it this rating because even tho it innovates on something, the game is short and repetitive. But if you wanna try something new, go ahead and buy it, it can be fun if you like fighting games in general.
Great zombie gamexgatto | Aug. 3, 2012 | Review of Killing Floor
Amaizing zombie killing game. Most people would compare it to left 4 dead on a first look, but its way more arcade'ish than l4d. The game only mode is surviving waves on maps in the different difficulties. You can play either alone or cooperatively, coop of course is more fun and easy. So you select a server, enter and the game begins. You spawn on wave 1, and your only goal is to kill every single zombie in every wave, and survive the amount of waves needed, which is configurable by the server. In between every wave of zombie killing, you'll have a small time to shop, with the money you got from killing zombies. You'll buy weapons, ammo, protection, grenades within this time limit, and the next wave will begin. There's also specialitations, or classes, one specialized with shotguns, or with medi-guns, etc.. And for every class you'll have to level by doing specific things, like killing 10 zombies with shotgun, or heal 100 allies.
Simple, short, fun, i'd recommend it if you have friends to play with, since there's where the fun is.
Fun RPGxgatto | Aug. 3, 2012 | Review of Gothic 3: Gold Edition
Pretty good RPG, Gothic 3 is a big game. A really big game, it has a big world, an immersive story, and lots, lots of adventure. If you're and adventurer, or explorer, you'll probably find yourself free roaming around, rather than following quests. The game counts with a new dynamic lighting system. This helps a lot in the immersion, since when its night and COMPLETELY dark, you'll need a torch or a light spell, or you wont see anything. At all. This also applies to dark caves, where you will really need to have the guts to explore.
All in all, isn't that what RPG's are supposed to be like? Big worlds to explore with your character, gathering equipment, creating your own hero? Well that's where Gothic 3 shines. Unfortunately, not everything is so awesome in Gothic 3. For example, the story is very lacklusting, or at least it feels so with the high expectations from the predecessors Gothic 1/2 So if youre a fan of RPG's, really check this out, even tho it has some bugs and the story isnt 10/10, its worth trying for its high exploration and fun value.
Bizarre but funxgatto | Aug. 2, 2012 | Review of Cargo! The Quest for Gravity DNS
Different indie game, just buy it if youre looking for something different, or you like indie games in general. This game isnt just a simple racing game, its something a lot more complex. Its something like a sandbox racing game, you build your tracks and cars from resources you get from kicking, weird.. uh babies?, and then race and keep building. Its just as strange as it sounds, just look at some videos, if you like it buy it, its something made for more creative people, its not a game that tells you do X thing in X way, you're your own boss here.
Somewhat funxgatto | Aug. 2, 2012 | Review of Binary Domain
Game is sorta well done, the plot at first seems to be very good, the whole cybernetic war, and the cannot differentiate humans from robots. But all of this just gets teared apart by awful animations and script. The main character lines are so cheesy, you'll want to play with your audio off. Aside from that, graphically speaking, the game looks alright for something from 2012, something I really liked tho, was the whole killing robot system, you tear their armor dynamically so it feels very fluid always. As for gameplay, I really DONT like it, its just your typical TPS, the same thing we've seen before in the first gears of war, well all of that its still there unmodified. I wouldnt call it a great game, but its certainly fun if you're looking to shot things mindlessly.
Good ol' gamexgatto | Aug. 2, 2012 | Review of Crazy Taxi DNS
Great old game for playing a while, pretty simple and easy to pick up. The goal is just one, drive people to their destination and make money within the required time. But its all about the high scores, just like old games used to be. There is also challenges, which require you to do certain things, like drive that guy downhill in X time, but dont bump the car, or something like that. But the arcade mode its really where you'll be playing most time. Map is well designed and has some cool spots to make jumps and tricks, so if you get to know the town real well, you'll have a huge advantage.
Simple, fun gamexgatto | July 31, 2012 | Review of Kung Fu Strike: The Warrior's Rise
So the game is focused in one, and one thing only. Kung Fu fighting. And it does it very well, the game feels like an old school fighting game. It starts out pretty simple, punch, kick, dodge, but soon you'll find special enemies that will require you to make some combos to take them out. Also, as you advance in the game, you acquire new skills and equipment, or even some companions to help you for a while, that you need to use in your advantage, and help you make some crazy combo's. Pretty fun game to play for a while, the only bad thing I can say about it, is the fact that multiplayer is only local, and does not allow to play over the internet, having online coop wouldve been a blast to be honest. Still, totally worth 10 bucks.
Decent action hack n slashxgatto | July 30, 2012 | Review of Darksiders
Typical god of war game, if you played god of war or devil may cry and like them, chances are you're gonna like this one. Game is action packed, but also has a lot of puzzling moments, just like god of war, "how the hell do I get up there?" "how do I kill this guy?" which make the game more fun, but sometimes also kinda frustrating. Also it has some equipment customization, change weapons, improve armor, get more skills, to keep you entertained even after hours of campaign.
Fun small mapxgatto | June 28, 2012 | Review of Sanctum: Slums DLC
Just a small, and very narrow map, but with 2 leves, compared to the others in the game, this one feels more like a maze. It has two teleporters to the right of the maze, one leading up and the other one down. Just an OK map, if you really like sanctum just get this.
Just OKxgatto | June 28, 2012 | Review of SkyDrift: Extreme Fighters Premium DLC
Not a really that special dlc, just 3 new planes, I dont see any reason why this is $1.50 and not completely free...
GTA IV, grand theft auto at its bestxgatto | June 28, 2012 | Review of Grand Theft Auto IV DNS
GTA IV brings the old basics from previous GTA, you are in this big city, and you need to make money, but you end up getting in big trouble. This game is a BIG jump in the GTA series, and by big, I mean REALLY BIG. This version brings a lot of things to the table, that should really be used in future GTA games. They use this new technology called Euphoria, that simulates not physics, but the way the AI reacts to the physics. For example, a guy falling to the ground and becoming a ragdoll is physics. Now a guy falling to the ground, trying to cover his face dinamically, and reacting to the environment, that, right there, is Euphoria. This new "engine" brings a lot of things to the table, as AI is one of the most important aspects of the GTA series, as you are most of the time interacting with people around the city. On another side, the story of the game also is greatly done. You really feel like you're playing as Niko Bellic, you become Niko, and you really start to hate the "bad guys". In fact, everything in the game makes you feel immersed, the night/day cycles and weather, everything makes you feel inside it, and thats what make it a really good game. But before you get this, be sure you have a PC good enough to run it, as it needs a lot of power to run, which is really the only downside I can see of this game.
Pretty good if you liked ARMA 2xgatto | June 28, 2012 | Review of ARMA II Operation Arrowhead
As the original ARMA 2, this game maintains the same gameplay and objectives. Its a modern, tactical shooter, with very realistic elements, that make it very different from other titles like Call of Duty or even more realistic than Battlefield 3. The game is very well done, everything that was meant to work a way, works as expected, the graphics are awesome and fit the realistic scheme very well. The sound aswell is very polished, every gun sounds different and pretty much resemble the real gun sounds. But, the problem with ARMA, is that its aimed to a really low playerbase, the game its too realistic, and can be VERY dificult and unforgiving. If you played Operation Flashpoint, or any ARMA before, you'll know what im talking about.
Operation Arrowhead is just ARMA 2, with some more toys and stuff, if you liked ARMA 2 and wanna have some more, get it. If you havent, I really NOT recommend it for new players, chances are you'll get really frustrated and quit.
Doesnt quite accomplish what it wantsxgatto | June 28, 2012 | Review of Quantum Conundrum
Dont get me wrong, the game is fun, well designed, the idea is great. You get this device that allows you to change dimensions, between heavy, fluffy, slow-mo, and some others. You have to use these dimensions, to help solve the puzzles in the manor, to help find your uncle who has suffered an apparent accident, and got lost. The similarities to Portal start to show up, you have this device that can change something in reality, and you use it to solve puzzles in a staged environment. The environment is very well done, it has a goofy feeling about it, there are paintings around that change with the dimension, and the game overall feels really funny, with little gags and stuff, and the graphics help, they are somewhat cartoony, graphics arent that good but its not really like you need top notch graphics for a puzzle game. But the thing is, the game puzzles arent really that good. You have really obvious puzzles easy to solve, and then you have hard puzzles, which are just as the easy ones, but there is some strange plataform type gameplay involved that makes it difficult. Although there are some creative puzzles, the easy ones just outnumber them. Still, I think the game is good and fun, though it could've been much better, its still good, and if you played/like the Portal, this is really worth a shot.
Great, worthy elder scrolls gamexgatto | June 20, 2012 | Review of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (NA)
If you played any Elder Scrolls game before, you might already know how this game works. But for those who haven't played any TES before, the game mechanics are like any other RPG. You explore, loot, level, progress, become stronger, do quests and ultimately end with all the evil in the world. But what makes tes so special? Its the fact that everything is done in big scales, and very polished, that makes it special. The world is massive, not only that, but you can explore every inch of it, and you'll never stop getting surprised. And the improved graphics engine really helps, the landscapes look beautiful, sometimes you just stop to admire a beautiful aurora. Gameplay wise, TES has his uniqe feel to it, where you wield a sword in first person, and swing it like a hack n' slash, not an rpg. Well in skyrim, this mechanic has been improved from previous games, although not polished, feels a lot better than its prequels. So, the game is long, fun, beautiful, fun, addictive and fun, so I dont see any reason of why you would not get it, unless you hate fantasy games.
Awesome game, must play.xgatto | June 17, 2012 | Review of Thief: Deadly Shadows Capsule
In case you havent seen some gameplay, the game plays something like, assassins creed, thief class on skyrim, and a lot from splinter cell. You are given with an objective, steal X thing, and the point of the game is that you do it sneaking around. To do this, you have to watch for a lot of variables, like illumination, the noise you make, the route of the guards, etc... And you have many tools to help you too, like an arrow that can turn off torches, or a weapon to incapacitate enemy guards. So, if you like sneaking around, or challenging, fun gaming in general, just get this. Now.
Fun, but repetitivexgatto | June 15, 2012 | Review of Kane & Lynch: Dead Men
This game is just like the first. Shoot, shoot, shoot, and.. well, shoot. The game is fun, don't get me wrong, but if you play it alone, you'll probably get bored before the end. Although repetitive, the game its very well done. Everything about it works just as it should, it brings the typical gameplay of a TPS, aim, shoot and cover. To get the full potential from this game, you have to play it cooperative. In cooperative, one will play as Kane and the other as Lynch of course, the main story will follow the course of the singleplayer one, so if you didn't beat it singleplayer, its just the same if you beat it cooperative. Graphics wise now, the game is amazingly done. They did this new effect, that makes it feel like someone is carrying a camera, and recording Kane and Lynch. The glare, the lens effects, all makes it feel so realistic, it makes you feel like you're in the game.
All in all, good game, fun, repetitive (cant stress this enough, the game is very repetitive), but that can get somewhat fixed by multiplayer. Story is kinda short too, so chances are you'll spend most your time multiplayer, or cooperative with your friends.
Fun, long gamexgatto | June 12, 2012 | Review of Magicka
Magicka is an unique rpg'ish game, which as you can tell by the name, is completely focused on magic. You have 8 elements to combine, and make many, many things, thunderstorms, meteor storms, invisibility, teleportation, and much more. Game is long and varied mostly because of the dlc's, so its not much likely that you'll get bored before 7hs of gaming or so. Also, the story is very well done, it has little gags that add to the game fun. Adding to all this, the game counts with cooperative and pvp multiplayer, which just adds more and more time of fun. Both the pvp and coop are very well done, and work flawlessly. However, the game has some downsides, the graphics arent very well done, sometimes things glitch, or works slower on systems where it should run very fast, feeling that it needs to be polished. But anyways, for its price, its definetly a worthy game of buying, and if you plan on playing it with friends, dont even doubt on buying it.
Worthy max payne sequelxgatto | June 8, 2012 | Review of Max Payne 3 DNS
Max Payne is back, and don't let the cover fool you, that bearded, bald guy is still the same Payne that held the dead body of Michelle on his arms. The personality of Payne is the same as always, dark, always with something clever to say, and the narrative still works the same, you always know what Max is thinking. The only downside I have to say about this game, is that the story and setting (Brasil mostly) just doesn't feel like the old Max, on the dark alleys and snowy streets.
But aside from that, everything is well done and polished. Graphics wise the game is just outstanding, uses the euphoria system we've already seen on GTA IV and some other games, which makes characters animations feel very fluid and realistic. Soundtrack is still as awesome as ever, the main theme is still there ofc ourse, somewhat improved, while maintaining the original awesomeness
Game takes about 10 to 12hs to complete on normal difficulty, and afterwards you can play the multiplayer, which I can say its a great addition, and very well done.
So, if you are a long time Max Payne fan, don't doubt on getting this, and if you're new to it, but you like third person shooters, you should really consider getting it, as its a great game all around.
Fun game, if you have friends to play with.xgatto | June 2, 2012 | Review of Dead Island
So you want to kill zombies, and feel like you're really trying to survive and accomplish something? Then Dead Island might be the right game for you, but only for a couple of hours.
The game itself doesn't really feel finished, the fighting mechanics get VERY repetitive after some time, the game doesn't do enough to get you involved in the story, quests get dull, repetitive and boring after one and a half hour of gaming, all you get are typical fetch quests, and to make all this worse, the weapons variety is terrible. But even with all those flaws, killing zombies with your friends, cant be boring, in any way. Thankfully, the coop system works well, haven't had a problem with it, to play with a friend you simply have to be in the same or a close quest, and the game will automatically tell you that your friend is near, and you can join them with the press of a button.
Graphics wise, if you saw any gameplay, you would notice the game is very pretty and well done, it has some minor flaws, but nothing very noticeable, or game-breaking.
So, to wrap it out, if you're considering picking this game up, but you don't have any friends to play with, you might wanna think twice about your decision, as the game can get really boring alone. But if you have some friends to play with, and you like zombies, don't doubt it and just buy it, its a fun and rewarding cooperative experience.
