One of the best series ever.zonzon | Sept. 6, 2013 | Review of Hitman Pack
If you should play one Hitman out of these 4, go for blood money. The first one is really old now, the second is great, the third, the ultimate hitman, and the fourth, some kind of deviation, but it keeps the hitman way to skillfully dispose of his targets.
Hitman, a series that you should have already tasted. That's all.
A very strange gamezonzon | Aug. 28, 2013 | Review of Shelter
In this game, you won't be playing as a soldier, nor an adventurer. You play as a badger that must raise her cubs. They will have to be fed, and there will have many dangers for them and for you like foxes or other animals.
The artistic direction is quite special, this is a cousin of cel-shading that looks good. Not awesome, but as expected for an indie game, it has really something particular.
A spinoff, not a sequel nor a prequelzonzon | Aug. 28, 2013 | Review of The Bureau: XCOM Declassified
This game has what XCOM lacked, a bigger emphasis on a scenario and exploration. This is a TPS that tried to keep the strategic nature of the originals, but is not really as complete as what XCOM was. Nevertheless, the scenario is quite enjoyable, with a little surprise occuring at the 2/3 of the game. Surprise that was actually quite brilliant, you may see it like Far Cry 3 hidden message, but this one is not outrageously insulting us as a gamer and rather intelligent.
The game is clearly poorly optimized, crank down the reflections on lower end cards. Shadows look great at max setting, but they tend to glitch sometimes, restart the game if it occurs, or lower the shadows setting.
The worst point about this game, is that it doesn't light the events of Enemy Unknown, this is not a flaw in itself, it's just a shame.
A european take on 2d combatzonzon | Aug. 28, 2013 | Review of Skullgirls
This game with an all female roster may remind you of some obscure japanese 2D fighting game. This one is not actually, but was orginally launched on arcade systems with support from Konami.
It is a solid game, but definitely not one of the best, as japanese are the king of 2D games. The low price is the only reason to get this over a "classic" 2.5D capcom fighter. (may they be expensive though)
Pre order Xcom declassified insteadzonzon | Aug. 12, 2013 | Review of X-Com Collection
If you pre order xcom : the bureau, you actually get all of the above, and cheaper. (hurry !) And with the brand new XCOM.
The original XCOM are just classics, old school classics though, get ready to get you ass kicked. And if you have to choose, play XCOM Defense, the other ones looks like add-ons, and are not that interesting to play, considering you don't like the genre. And of course, XCOM : Enemy Unknown is a must buy. It isn't exactly like the old XCOM (smaller maps, fewer units) But it's just modernized, not worse.
Tactics are really solid in XCOM : Enemy Unknown, if you like it, you should definitely take a look at the older episodes, as the tactics in these games are way deeper.
Buy if you don't have the characterzonzon | Aug. 6, 2013 | Review of Awesomenauts: Demon Skølldir
You can consider buying this DLC if you don't already have bought the character, it unlocks it as well as the skin. The skin in itself is not that good, nothing amazing about it. And it may be a little pricey just for a skin.
Mining is dangerouszonzon | Aug. 5, 2013 | Review of Eve Online 30 Day Starter Pack - Asteroid Miner 4 Pack
This starter pack gives a head start in mining, but be aware that miners are easy prays, people with way more experience than you will take you out easily. Boosters are useful as the game has been launched since 2003, most people have very good stuff. You won't be in danger for very long though, the boosts and the frigate are quite good.
Nice starterzonzon | Aug. 5, 2013 | Review of Eve Online 30 Day Starter Pack - Amarr Explorer 4 Pack
This starter pack gives a good head start and an additional frigate that will get you through a long portion of the game. Boosters are useful as the game has been launched since 2003, most people have very good stuff. You will catch up quite fast with the boosters, that are just here to get you to a good level in no time.
A 2D MOBAzonzon | Aug. 5, 2013 | Review of Awesomenauts 4 Pack
If you don't know what a MOBA is, you might know of LoL, this is the same kind of game. Creeps are generated from each side, and the two teams must destroy the opponent base. The players can not go right away to the enemy base, as they are not strong enough, they will have to kill creeps, and maybe get a hero kill.
This is no deviation whatsoever from the MOBA genre, is just the same gameplay but in 2D.
A classic MMORPGzonzon | Aug. 5, 2013 | Review of Eve Online 30 Day Starter Pack - Amarr Bounty Hunter 4 Pack
Eve online is basically a MMORPG that is driven by its community, it gives a very notable difference versus the classic MMOs. Stock markets are a reality and are influenced by players as they buy and sell, like in the real stock market. Missions are generated by players, and actually, you can conquer anything in this game. It has led to massive PvP battles, as you may know, it's also a game where you can lose a lot of money as well as winning. A starter pack is heavily recommended if you get new on this game since it's going for 10 years now.
AAAAAGAAAAATHHHAAAAAA !zonzon | Aug. 5, 2013 | Review of Chivalry - 4 Pack
This game is medieval first person... well, not shooter for the most part. You can take part in the two factions, the agatha knights and the mason order. Back then, fights were getting messy, with blood and limbs everywhere, and that's what you are going to witness in this game. (consider mashing the shouting key, it's an absolute blast) The gameplay is really good, it goes around blocking attacking and parrying, plus ranged attacks. The different classes and weapons allows for balanced fights, and teamplay is the key.
The current price is really a steal for a game like this.
A good coop experiencezonzon | Aug. 5, 2013 | Review of Operation Flashpoint Red River - 4 Pack
This game requires some tactics, and give orders to AIs is everything but fun in this game. This realistic military FPS is good, but you have to activate microphone communication in order to play it well, (with your friends of course, don't bother playing with AIs) you can get shot down from 300 meters without having a glance to who killed you. This is a hard and a very demanding game, you will not run everywhere like in BF or COD for a long time before getting downed. Take a long time to plan, observe the enemy with goggles, and attack quickly from all sides are what you should do.
A good racing gamezonzon | Aug. 5, 2013 | Review of Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed 4 Pack
Sonic and the SEGA characters are back in a mario kart like game. The main differences between mario kart and sonic & all stars racing is that the tracks are SEGA themed, ranging from Golden axe to Skies of Arcadia, the levels are an ode for these classic games. It's really pulling the nostalgic rope, in a good way. The characters are all from licences from SEGA, plus the Team fortress character for the PC. During the races, that are changing based on the current lap, features roads, water, and air, and your vehicle transform accordingly, this adds up some challenge because you may not be the best with all vehicles. That's a load of fun with friends, and this game will mean something more for players that are around 25 years old.
And the price is currently a steal. Go for it.
This game is definitely better with friends !zonzon | Aug. 5, 2013 | Review of Killing Floor - 4 Pack
This game looks like Left 4 Dead but it is not, it's a FPS with zombie-ish horde. Guns have a better feeling, with iron sights and all that nowadays is basic stuff. Between waves you can buy new weapons, armors, grenades... The different classes allow and requires team play, if you play it alone, you're missing a good part of the game. (plus, the game is kinda hard)
A decent add onzonzon | Aug. 4, 2013 | Review of Overlord: Raising Hell
The levels are well made and still full of humor, you will see the characters of the orginal game, which is a good idea since they are nicely integrated to the story. But the graphics engine was not upgraded, same as the AI...
A nice casual game, as usual.zonzon | Aug. 4, 2013 | Review of Kingdom Tales
Big Fish Games are accustomed to make casual games, and actually good casual games. This one has the player controlling peons that can build, transport resources, and so forth in order to achieve a "short" goal. The levels get longer and harder, so 45 levels is actually enough. You may even not finish the game.
Get it for casual gamers though.
A collection of city builder gameszonzon | Aug. 4, 2013 | Review of Patricians & Merchants
If you played these games when you were younger, you may definitely want to buy this collection. In the current standards, these are not really good games, you should just buy Patrician 4 instead. But nostalgia is priceless.
The game that created the Dukezonzon | Aug. 4, 2013 | Review of Duke Nukem II
For the story, the first Duke Nukem was named, "Duke Nukum". The name sucks, and for the nicely visually upgraded sequel, they went to rename the hero "Duke Nukem". But they didn't restart the count, so this is Duke Nukem 2, and the first was renamed to Duke Nukem
In this duke game, you have essentially everything that was in Duke Nukem 3D, aliens, big guns, keycards, but unfortunately no chicks ! This was a nicely done 2d platformer, for the time.
Some powerful weapons, but imbalanced unlockszonzon | Aug. 4, 2013 | Review of Dollar Dash: Robbers Tool-Kit
If you are buying this DLC without having completed the game or even got far, you are going to get weapons that are too powerful. Don't play the single player with this DLC, go for multiplayer instead.
Max Payne, the series to be playedzonzon | Aug. 2, 2013 | Review of Max Payne Complete Bundle
There is no excuse to not buy these awesome games. Some may say Max Payne 2 didn't deliver in raw gameplay, but I can assure you this game is the bridge between the first Max Payne and Alan Wake. A noir story with some sense of humor, a more adult take on an universe that could have gone both ways.
To end it, Max Payne 3 took the oldschool-ish gameplay to the modern days. It feels just like it should be, with Rockstar graphics and physics engine, it does an awesome game. (but you have to run it on a good computer)
A creative gamezonzon | July 29, 2013 | Review of Scribblenauts Unlimited
This game is an absolute blast. But this is better is you're trying to find creative solutions.
You can almost create everything (staying a game suitable for children) And the missions will keep you busy for a long time.
Nothing else to say, this is a must buy.
It might be a bit old today, but the universe is worth a lookzonzon | July 29, 2013 | Review of Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition
Let's be honest, in 2013, the game looks ugly. But if you look at what the game is offering, you could see one of the best, if not the best, cyberpunk game universe.
The storyline is great, with a twist occuring in the first half of the game, that I won't be spoiling.
Unfortunately, the game gets a bit repetitive in the combats, so it might stop you from finishing the game.
Buy it if you like those carszonzon | July 29, 2013 | Review of Driver San Francisco Deluxe Edition
Stick with the original version of the game, because these cars are unbalanced. And keep in mind that story missions chooses the car for you, what is a driver game without a Dodge Challenger ?
That being said, this is a must buy.
Driver, or not driver ?zonzon | July 29, 2013 | Review of Driver San Francisco
The lastest installment of the Driver series is an open world game.
Will it be better or worse than Burnout Paradise ? The answer is better.
The "shift" system allows the player to go from car to car within a few seconds, if your car is wasted, just change cars !
That allows also some crazy multiplayer modes, as you are not really out of the race if you crash in an incoming car, shift out of you car, and you're back.
The handling of the cars is similar to other Driver games, with the same car adherence to the road.
Missions are fun, and the storyline helps to get funny situations. This is a must buy.
Open world burnout FTWzonzon | July 29, 2013 | Review of Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box
If you knew burnout in the PS2/XBOX/GC era, you know what this is. But this time, it's in an open world setting.
Don't be disappointed, races are still there and there is more than ever, you just have to go to an intersection and there is an event there.
But the game may have got old now. Driver San Francisco is a similar game, if you want something more recent.
A definite replacement for ace of spades.zonzon | July 29, 2013 | Review of Guncraft DNS
If you bought Ace Of Spades and felt bad, well you probably won't be buying the game. But that game is has a way better engine and netplay.
This isn't perfect and maps are not always well balanced, the gamemodes are good, but the gameplay feels a bit too slippery.
A dirty journey through violencezonzon | July 29, 2013 | Review of Kane and Lynch Pack
IO Interactive, after making the most successful and intelligent assassination game, goes on for two all out violence TPS. The first Kane and Lynch was not critically acclaimed, but IO went for a sequel, that successfully get us to witness the utter violence of banditism.
Our two pals are not going to get out of there unharmed.
The gameplay feels a bit like Gears Of War, but doesn't attain a similar perfection. There are flaws in the cover system, that get you shot, even when in cover...
The game is really meant to be played in coop mode. In the highest difficulties, a human helping hand is definitely required.
A cunning stealth game, with the real feeling of being a shadowzonzon | July 29, 2013 | Review of Dishonored
Dishonored is a stealth game, and the game design is really appropriate for the genre. You are able to lean left or right, like in old school fps.
The blink/teleport is really a nice addition to the stealth mechanics. Unlike Deus Ex : Human Revolution, you can get past enemies without requiring to take them out. You can teleport out of harm's way, and easily/quickly get to where you want.
And the objectives can be attained by various ways, you can be straight forward and assassinate your target, or maybe there is something you can do to not get your hands dirty. Because, yes, this game allows for a "no kill" run.
This being said, the storyline feels weak, with an ending that leaves you with a feeling of uncompletion of what the universe of the game has to offer. Obviously, this is because DLCs are going to fill these "holes".
To be short, this is a really great stealth game, with lots and lots of possibilities, but the game/level design is far more interesting than the story.
The best open world FPS, but story is really badzonzon | July 29, 2013 | Review of Far Cry 3
The greatest thing this game has is an open world setting and plenty of things to do in it. Shooting is nice and precise, and the stealth possibilities are way above others basic shooters. (multiple takedown, from up and below, etc...)
But the story is basically a satire of violent FPS games, where the main character is "godlike", by being able to eliminate every opposing force without common sense. What makes the character act like a killing machine is "the player himself", and if you get it right, yes, you are the subject of the satire.
You are forced, by the game, to kill. And in the end, you are a psychopath. But you were forced to kill, this is the game that turn you into a killing machine, not the will of the player. If you want to do a satire of this sort, don't laugh at the player by giving NO OTHER choice than the "wrong" choice.
The problem is that is also include extremely stupid NPC's (Buck is an "annoying piece of s*") And dumb storyline, with an antagonist that is as over the top as he is evil. Friends that are stupid and won't even listen to the main character, and are just here to be saved, they aren't grateful either.
To make it short, this is a really good FPS, the best open world FPS, but has a dull storyline, just wander around and do stuff, and ignore the story, you're gonna get disappointed otherwise.
The next installment of Tomb Raider, minus exploration.zonzon | July 27, 2013 | Review of Tomb Raider
This game sets in the first adventure of tomb raider's lara croft. The story on itself is really classic and mildly boring, though, this is an action game, don't expect it to be an adventure game like the previous Tomb Raider. On the action side, the game is good, maybe too unforgiving, the enemies (at the highest difficulty) will shoot, and land every bullet at their target if you're not bothering to take cover. But the tombs are optional and looted in roughly 5 to 7 minutes each, and there is no more than 10. If you're expecting an adventure game, please buy this game knowing this is an action game, no more, no less.
