One of the most disappointing games I've played.

I liked the look of the videos and how the creators described it as trying to make the music the centerpiece of the game instead of simply the background. Got me thinking this was an "art-type" survival horror game. Boy was I wrong.

For starters the music isn't all that good. Yes it's interesting for a while but my god how long can you listen to the same damn score? The music never changes! I expected something closer to Dear Esther where the music changed based on your location and everything came together to give you an amazing sensation (in this case I expected fear). What I got was a long, repetitive, and eventually annoying soundtrack. It wasn't subtle or engaging it just started grinding on my nerves.

Aside from the music the puzzle system is incredibly convoluted. I'm not saying that because I had a hard time and rage quit the game every five and a half seconds, I actually beat the game in a single 10 hour sitting. The only reason I figured out some of this stuff is because I'm either insane or I got really lucky. There are several puzzles that are just trial and error, there is no way to figure it out before you do it. That probably constituted at least an hour of game play right there, and an hour of trying to avoid smashing my speakers against the wall.

Finally I have to call these guys out on their poorly designed paranormal phenomena. In smaller words, the stuff that's supposed to be scary...isn't. Whenever something scary happens you're initially shocked a bit, but you get over it almost immediately. There's no build up, no "what's going to happen now" feeling, it's just fifteen seconds of a phenomena and then poof gone. When you look back on it you get this empty feeling like there should have been "something" more. Some sort of build up to the event, something that makes you feel suspense before that shock. Instead you get the initial shock and then nothing. It's almost better just not having it at all.

Short

Anna is indie horror game from Italy. First I must warn everyone that this game is VERY short. I player it through in about 3 hours.

Even when it is short, those moment what i spent in Anna, where pure gold. Atmosphere was really creepy and game has few very surprising moments that are required from a good horror game. I did like the horror events that happened in game.

Gameplay is all about solving riddles and puzzles. Those are sometimes hard, but not frustrating. Game does not have many areas, so it is easy to find things that you need and then trying to solve a riddle.

If you are horror fan like me, i do recommend you to buy this game.

Freaky atmosphere

Anna really frustrates me to death. On one hand, it is exactly the type of game (or more accurately, experience) I love: Great looking environments, freaky atmosphere, chilling story (though nothing extensive at all, but it makes you think a bit about what happened to the characters and to draw your own conclusion), and AWESOME soundtrack. Anna is much like Dear Esther which I actually liked for the same reasons, but Anna is an actual interactive puzzle game. So then on the other hand, the "puzzles" are absolutely frustrating and over-complicated, and most of the stuff you have to do to progress seems simply done to extend the game's playtime (which is more than a few hours without using the help system or cheating with a walk-through online). In the end, Anna is a daring experiment I am glad I experienced but doubt I would visit again.

It had potential

I think this game could have been a greater game with more resources, because it has a lot of elements to make a great adventure but it feels like a game that needs more development for example Anna looks good but the rest of the graphics look a bit ugly.

The puzzles some are good but other are very confusing, sometimes I do not have a clue of what to do and others are very easy.

Also the game has a lot of scary moments but after you see a lot of them you feel nothing because you know they are not a real threat in the game.

But afterall I can recommend this game, it is ok.

Scary at first, not that great of a game overall

Anna is an interesting game put out at a solid price. It's billed as a horror game where you solve puzzles to progress rather than fighting back. The puzzles are ok, some offer a good level of challenge but I found that most were too easy. The biggest turn-off was that you can't die. While that's great for some games, I found it took away from the horror elements of this game. Get it if you absolutely have to play horror games, otherwise skip it.
