Reviews for Combat Wings

Mediocre flight sim

This game is a decent try at flight simulation. Not spectacular success, but you get what you pay for after all ;) Getting the joystick or flying stick to respond the way you want takes a lot of tweaking and and poor in-game options and customization does not help with it. The voice narrativeyou get before and especially (!!!) during the missions is unnecessary and doesn't help the game because a lot of stuff in the voice narrative just doesn't need to be said. It only deconcentrate you. The game sadly falls flat in gameplay as well, even compared to later DOS titles like Aces of the Pacific, not to mention new titles. For this price you may as well get it if flight sims are your thing, but don't expect too much.

It's alright

Combat Wings is an admittedly great value per dollar. it has pretty impressive controls and action. The graphics aren't amazing, but it's highly detailed. Most of all, it's a fun aerial dog-fighting game, and there haven't been many in recent years. It's a bit lacking in content, but for its low price and being part of a pretty thin genre, it's definitely worthwhile.

Smooth Flying For This One

It doesn't look like much at first, but it gives you a fair amount of content for a game priced as such. It's a really, really decent dogfight game, and I wish that more games could be this simple and yet offer so much. Controls were very manageable, the enemies were a challenge without being too overbearing, and the areas you fight in look great. It's not the most graphically stunning of fighter plane games, but this does a well and good job to be held up in their level. All in all, a great game that you should try.

More than you'd expect at this price.

I got this game on sale for $1.24, and obviously my expectations were pretty low. But after just a few short minutes of playing, and experiencing a full scale dogfight, I quickly realized this game has more to it than meets the eye. It's not the most polished game, and the physics probably aren't totally accurate, but it will provide many hours of fun gameplay, and it's the best bang for your buck if you're looking for a WWII flying game.

Not Bad

This low-cost combat flyer is a blast. The controls are smooth and intuitive and this lets you concentrate on flying and shooting instead of what buttons you need to press. In particular, the game makes such great use of the mouse that I'm not even tempted to try it with other controllers. Graphically, the game would have been mediocre even by the standards of 5 years before it came out. It can't be said to be a pretty game. But it plays so well, that I honestly don't care.

Great Game

This game is a lot of fun whether you play singleplayer or multiplayer, dog fights in the air certainly are something you don't see in a lot of games. It's a thrill to shoot down a plane and fly though the explosion you have created - gameplay itself is smooth and feels fairly natural on a keyboard but it may take a while to get used to it. The difficulty is a little questionable, even on the hardest difficulty the game isn't too challenging. It's a lot of fun for a small pricetag.

Combat Wings is very good game. Graphics - the airplane models and explosions are pretty. Sound is climatic. This game is easy on hardest difficulty - You don't need to worry about long, sleepy flights, obscure waypoints, fuel limitations, or complex objectives and missions. As for multiplayer, you're welcome to engage in deathmatch or team deathmatch competition with up to ten player. For one - two afternoon this game is very good. You must buy Combat Wings.

I'm a fan of aviation, and I believe flying gives a sense of freedom and accomplishment, and that's exactly is all about. The controls are smooth, the environments quite fun. It takes some getting used to, and lots of practice, but when play the game enough, you get skilled. Eventually, you will even have the ability to finish the game on the hardest difficulty. I'd say, besides the mediocre graphics, this game is still a must-buy.
