Reviews for Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Classic & timeless

Sonic 1/2/3 for Genesis are gaming gems that have aged very well. The gameplay is still great, 20 years later. With the introduction of Tails, this brought multiplayer and a different character to play. Each zone has great music and is varied enough to keep the gameplay interesting. The boss fights are fun and challenging, but not too hard or unfair. The best thing they added here was the spindash attack, something missing in Sonic 1 that has become a mainstay in every Sonic game afterward. It's also worth saying that you can do zone select in multiplayer and race your friend on split screen, and it changes the music to the zones which is kind of cool. The emulator on steam runs really well and adds a quicksave feature so you don't have to beat these games in 1 sitting. This game is definitely worth your money. Nostalgia factor or just a great game that happens to be 20+ years old, it's definitely a solid game.

Blast Processing

Sega's giant marketing ploy included touting a feature called 'blast processing'. While the existence of it is debatable, this game made you think it was real. It is a fast paced platformer with tight controls and catchy music. The graphics were innovative for the time. No one had seen anything like it except in arcades. It was a big step up from Sonic 1. This is one of the best Sonic game to date.

Bringing new elements, such as the spin dash, the co-op mode, the super Sonic mode, and all that stuff made grow the franchise in a single blow, this game is by far one of the best Sonic games made.

Better than the original in every aspect

Sonic 2 is one of the best games in the sonic franchise. It has even more beatiful graphics than the original, and not only that, its the first game that introduces tails, your partner. Bosses are more difficult, you have minigames and an awesome soundtrack. You will not regret.

Building up with every title

DeweyDTruman | Feb. 8, 2013 | See all DeweyDTruman's reviews »

The original sonic was pretty good, though it lacked some small details that would later show up. Sonic 2 added these. Most notably, it added a spin dash that made it easier to gain speed at a moment's notice. A few other small details it changed or added were new special stages in place of the pseudo-marble madness of the original (which tend to be referenced in many, many other titles as the base special stage to this day), super sonic, and lowering the level numbers from 3 of each level to only 2. The levels also on the whole feel much more well thought out than in the previous title, creating an overall better experience. If sonic 1 is a necessary play due to what it started, sonic 2 is a necessary play because of what it added.

Good Sonic classic game

Sonic 2 is really a great platform game and a must have for Sonic fan. The game is really fast and in each level there are loops and springs that allow you to increase Sonic speed. Some levels are really amazing, in particular the chemical plant is really fun. The game is simple, but it has also a replay value because in some levels you can reach the end following different paths. In this game there is also a second character, Tails , that can help Sonic sometimes with his flying ability.

Favorite Sonic game

If you've been disappointed with Sonic's recent games, try Sonic Generations. In the meantime, buy Sonic 2 to remember why you love the blue hedgehog to begin with. Being my personal favorite Sonic game, Sonic 2 deserves a spot in everyone's library. Tight gameplay. Catchy music. This game has it all. It's a game that can be beaten in one sitting but it's so fun that will probably play it over and over.

A sequel better then the original

Sonic 2 takes all the good things from the first title, and replace the "boring" ones with new feature. For example, now to collect chaos emeralds you must collect fifty rings on one level, so you will enter the bonus stage that has a "false" 3D perspective. Here you must collect several rings and pass througt several checkpoints on a required time: if you success, you will obtain a chaos emerald. Collect all and you will unlock Super Sonic. You can play as Tails if you want, but using it on bonus stage is more difficult then using Sonic.

Sonic and Tails

Even if others games are better, Sonic 2 is my favourite game of the franchise, It was a great sequel, even better than the first game, Tails was a great character and thanks to him we had a game where two players can play at the same time. The game has 11 zones with 2 acts each and I think all levels are perfect and the bonus stages were very fun. For more action with Sonic and Tails, Add this game to your collection.
