Puyo Puyo is a series of wonderful falling-block style puzzle games in japan, with a focus on multiplayer over the more common singleplayer type. Because of this, they feel very different from other titles of their genre. When these games were released in America, they were localized into different series, with the genesis version being based on the American Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon. None of the wonderful gameplay has been lost, however, and it still manages to be an absolutely astounding gem for any fan of the genre to play.

Robotnik’s bean machine is like Tetris in many ways but there are some differences. Instead of blocks you have blobs of beans and you have to match colours to get points. You can rotate beans around to make some interesting shapes other than just lines. Another difference from Tetris is that this game encourages competition. Two players play at a time, either person vs person or person vs AI and you try to get combos to drop un-linkable beans into your enemy’s pit to disrupt their scoring or to give them a stack to make them lose. The retro-style track adds to the atmosphere and all said, is quite catchy. All in all, Robotnik’s bean machine is a pretty good game that encourages competition between players.

As for Super Mario (with the game Doctor Mario), this is a puzzle game dedicated to Sonic universe. The concept and gameplay are pretty simple, you must clean-up every screen from the bobbles. If you like Tetris, this is pretty much the same style.
