Reviews for Commandos: Beyond the Call of Duty
What DLC should bephool | Oct. 20, 2013 | See all phool's reviews »
Released at a time when DLC (then referred to as expansion packs) provided actual content which had substance rather than skins or additional weapons that should have been in the original game, Beyond The Call of Duty provides avid Commandos fans with eight additional levels pitched at the same headache inducing difficulty of the first game.
The game uses the same engine as the first, so expect more beautifully rendered environments which were a real marvel to look at the time of the games release. Your core team of veterans are back with a few new tricks up their sleeves to help you sneak past enemies.
Overall, Beyond the Call of Duty reinforces the strengths of the original commandos series, and while it doesn’t deviate too much from the original mechanics of the first, the sheer challenge and sense of accomplishment of completing a level keeps you coming back for more.
One of the most difficult challengesmahon | July 27, 2013 | See all mahon's reviews »
One of the most difficult games I know. Well, the whole Commandos series was difficult, or maybe only the 1st and 2nd parts, but if you're not fine with trying and re-trying different solutions and prefer obvious ways and easy winning, the game is not for you. If you want challenge - both intellectual and manual - the game will suit you well. It's a standalone expansion to the first game in the series.
The concept of the whole series is that you have a few characters, each of whom has a special skill and equipment, and you need to find the right srtrategy, the right combo, that will allow to use their strengths in order to achieve the goal of their mission. And there's no room for mistakes. You err - you die. But only to restart the mission and try another combination.

The best part of all the series is that one can feel the WWII environment with roads paved with cobblestones, old buildings, rail lines, and tanks & guns. The graphics is excellent if one compares to games published during 1999. The game requires patience and sometimes tough to play, but at the end it gives immense satisfaction. Please note that its not a first-person-shooter game, but it gives a birds eye view to play the game with real time strategies

Difficult as hell, the game requires patience, because your soldiers are going to die several times until you find out how to proceed in each mission, but the satisfaction that you obtain when you complete a level with all your time alive is immense. Please note that its not a first-person-shooter game, but it gives a birds eye view to play the game with real time strategies. Buy it if you like real time strategy!!

For vets of the original game, these extra missions will test your limits, and make you question your sanity on more than one occasion. Everything plays and runs just as good here, but the difficulty is off the charts.
This addon also brings something new character-wise to the series, as well as some new abilities for your squad. It couldn't be summed up any better than in a quote from the leader of tv's "The A-Team": "I love it when a plan comes together". Because, when it doesn't, you're gonna pull your hair out!
A faithful expansion pack!!faraany3k | Aug. 16, 2011 | See all faraany3k's reviews »
This is how you do an expansion pack right. Commandos: Beyond the Call of Duty builds upon the foundations of its original game with amazing amount of new content and gameplay tweaks. Firstly this expansion pack features a whole new single player campaign with a huge amount of varied and challenging missions. You still control the 6 man elite squad with 2 newcomers, squad is now sexed up with more war gear to take out enemies, handcuff them, club them or even fist them to there fate.In addition to new tools, several new mechanics have also been introduced which make the whole gameplay more precise and smoother then ever. If you are a fan of the original you might not want to miss this essential expansion pack.
Old good Commandos, but betternewn | Aug. 11, 2011 | See all newn's reviews »
I wouldn't say that this game is out-dated even today. Graphics and mechanics like that just don't get old. This is an expansion to the first Commandos, and it includes some new and neat features, like distractions. You can throw rocks and cigarette packs to distract enemies, and it's extremely useful! It goes well with the higher difficulty this game offers. That's right, it's harder than the first Commandos. You will have to struggle in this version even if you aced the first one. Another very neat feature added is the ability to play it on higher resolution. This game is shorter than Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines. It offers you 8 missions, while the latter offers 20 missions. But keep in mind that those missions will take more time to complete, because they are harder.
So if you don't mind a challenge - you should definitely have this game. And besides - it's extremely cheap. Even time-wise - 5€ for at least 10 hours of extremely fun gameplay is an amazing deal!

Persistence is the word. If you buy this game, your little electronic men will die. Many times. And you'll reload. And they'll all die. Again and again. That's what this game's about. If that sounds like your idea of Hell, then stay away. This war IS Hell. It's like a baffling puzzle that you solve, one teensy-tiny step at a time. With your finger on the Save key. But when everything comes together it feels great. Better than great. It's like you beat the developer at their own game. Their own beautifully drawn, nicely animated and highly atmospheric game, I should add. So, it's frustrating. That's what this game's about. All you need to do is persist.
A challenging additionZippaLip | April 13, 2011 | See all ZippaLip's reviews »
Beyond the call of duty is the first and only expansion for Commandos. It adds several new mission (not as many as the first however) and new features such as weapons, items (you can use stones or cigarettes against the enemies!), location, vehicles and also a special female spy character. But the difficulty is higher: if you loved the first get it, only for the bravest!
Harder than everfearon | April 8, 2011 | See all fearon's reviews »
Addon to first Commandos brings new missions and new challenges. More, better, harder. This game is only for Commandos veterans, who think, that there is no goal, that they can't achieve. Now they'll beg for mercy. This game is very difficult and you must have this in mind, when you'll decide to buy it.
Still great!ffrreeaakk | April 7, 2011 | See all ffrreeaakk's reviews »
It still good, old Commandos but with new missions, new vehicles, new weapons and abilities. It's shorter but even a bit more difficult than the first one. Visit island in the Pacific Ocean, desert and even a ZOO! Blow up a lighthouse, free a hostage and steal german superweapon - sound like fun :D The game is pretty much the same with all its advantages and disadvantages. Voice-acting is worse :( If you loved the first one, this one will give you the same but more! Enjoy!
