Before Duke Nukem became one of the best 3d games in early 90's,this is the game which gives an origin to the masterpiece, even if the controls, graphics and mechanics are simple, the game it is good for the time he was developed, buy it together with the other Duke Nukem games for maximum experience.

Underrated Classic

Anyone criticizing the graphics paid no attention to the release date prior to purchase. The game looks really good for its time, and its color scheme is vibrant enough and its levels varied enough to still be fun to look at in 2015. The controls are tight, and the combat feels challenging but not overwhelming. Some of the puzzles require mildly irritating backtracking, but it's not so bad that it ruins the game. If Ocarina can get away with it, the original Duke Nukem should

Not aged well

This is the one that started it all! The game that introduced the world to Duke Nukem, the manliest earth savior around. Now, the game is old! It's from the late 90's so obviously the graphics are..."Retro". When the game first came out, the graphics were amazing! I remember playing it, and being astounded! It felt like playing a cartoon I thought! Games can't possibly look any better than this! Not now, not ever! The game is very difficult(As was the norm of classic games), though if I recall correctly there were some cheat codes for the game. I have no idea what they are, but i'm sure if you REALLY needed it, Google could help you out. I'm not even sure if they will work on this game to be honest. The difficulty of the game is actually one of the things I enjoy about retro games. See, nowadays our gannes have good stories! You want to enjoy the story, not spend three weeks trying to get through one level, but these classic games lacked any real story, so the fun came from dying repeatedly! So, why such a low score then you might be asking? The answer is simple! Poor controls! The controls literally kill the game in my opinion. Yes, it's an older game, but that doesn't excuse poor controls! It certainly wasn't the first game invented, and other games at the time had tolerable controls, but this one(Even then) was frustrating! Would I recommend the game? Only to fans of the series who have already played it in the past, and know what they are getting into.

Duke Nukem - the beggining.

When I talked once to my friend he said that he started his adventure with Duke Nukem from the very first game. I was happy to hear that, until he told me that it was similar to Wolfenstein 3D. Whaaat? Platformer Duke Nukem games sure are old, and some people might not know that everything started from this platform game. Is it worth checking, when the most popular Duke Nukem games are 3D and this "Forever" thing? Of course. Simply, it's Duke Nukem. He was awesome from the very beggining. It's also a great platform game from old times. Sure, it looks "old", but the only thing that never get old is fun from playing. And trust me, Duke Nukem is great fun. That's the game when this epic man was born. Treasure it!

Not as good as the second game

This game is rather similar to several other Apogee classics, like Secret Agent or Bio Menace. It’s a 2D side scrolling platformer which has you getting through each level, racking up points along the way (which usually involves shooting things) and collecting inventory items with the eventual goal of taking on Dr. Proton. The player character only has one weapon through the entire game which can be upgraded, and enemies are limited in their variety and instead, it’s often the environment you find yourself in that poses the biggest threat. In my mind, Duke Nukem II is miles better. Better graphics, better animation, better sound – overall just a better game. But if you would like to see where it all started, you probably wouldn't risk much by getting this game in a sale.

Classic sidescroller!

Back in the days this was one of the most amazing side-scroller games ever made by Apogee software the first game looked a lot like a game called "crystal caves" also made by Apogee. However the second game was more technically advanced with more weapons,jet-pack and a lot of amazing background effects and new levels. In conclusion this is one of the best side-scroller games i've ever played.

The game that started it all

This was back in the day when Duke Nukem was cool and you could be proud you play it as the recent addition was not so, the 2D Graphics and the way we can still play it on Windows 7 when it runs in DOS, the controls take some time to get a hand of but as soon as that is out the way you can enjoy this game to the fullest to get that old school Duke Nukem feeling that you don't get anymore, so buy this if you are a Nostalgia Freak just like me and then own one of the most pioneering games ever to surface on the video game scene.

If you haven't played this game you definitely should; its what began todays shooters, and just such a good game! It definitely feels dated, but it knows that and that's part of the appeal. If you haven't played it yet, get downloading right now!!
