I would expect if you're looking at this game, you probably played it on Genesis. If not, it's probably one you can skip unless you're really into old platformers. It is rather challenging and the combat mechanic is interesting, but I feel like that's something that can be said of most platformers. In this game, you attack through a face in your stomach (it would take too much time to explain, just go with it), but if you find your head, you can also throw it for another attack. It is themed nicely, the music isn't anything special, and all in all a very standard game. One playthrough is probably enough and I had mine.

Well, isn't that a weird story.. Still, even with that, Decap Attack is yet another dime-a-dozen platformer for good old Genesis. And not particularly good one, either. I'll just right to the chase - the game is really mediocre, feeling like every other platformer ever from every possible angle. The only thing (besides the story and main character, of course), that stood out for me was the fact that the controls in this game are pretty bad. Your character has the classic "sliding" moving mechanic, but.. it's implemented just plain wrong. Instead of making the walking de-facto better, like in Super Mario Bros., let's say, this game just feels horribly sloppy whenever you walk. Whenever you push the directional pad, your character starts walking slowly towards it's target, and then he takes up running. That fact, coupled with the slippery nature of his feet, makes for some really bad maneuvering. Also, your character can't attack while crouching, so, while you can slide under some enemy, you are pretty much in a bad luck when someone gets in your way while doing so.. It's not the WORST platformer from the selection, but there are much better titles you can buy.

Platform games are a rarity on PC in this day and age which makes solid titles like Decap Attack a nice nostalgic blast from the past. As with all those converted Sega classics a gamepad comes highly recommended. The visuals look like they did all those years ago which might put off some players but the gameplay is still solid and challenging. At this price it is well worth checking out.

Decap Attack is a good platform game with an unusual idea - main character - Chuck D. Head - have to attack enemies using his own head. It's quite challenging title. Graphics isn't great, but it isn'y bad, just Sega Genesis/Mega Drive standard. For this price, I can recommend it.
