Reviews for Duke Nukem II
Not like original Duke Nukem 2?Furrek | Aug. 13, 2014 | See all Furrek's reviews »
First thing that probably everyone need to know - version of game realeased for steam is a little edited. Like, you can see it on screenshots up there. I didn't knew about that but saw for myself when someone on the internet complained about that. So what's different? There is missing option/help on the right side, on edited steam version of game is just a Duke Nukem's head. But the biggest different is that Duke have... glasses. What they did add them for? I don't get it. If you enjoy original game how they were back there, you will be kind dissapointed. Even if these are little changes it destroys a nostalgia feeling. But if you don't mind, Duke Nukem 2 is still great fun - like previous platform game, it lives to it's name. Score this low only because of edited things, if you don't mind about changes, add +20 to it.

This is one of my favourite Duke titles, and one of my favourite platformers of all time. It’s quite a big improvement of its predecessor. It looks quite a bit better graphically, and there’s a larger variety of deadly enemies to take on. There are several new weapons like a laser rifle, a flamethrower and a rocket launcher, some of which have other uses in levels if you play around with them. There are many items that you can utilise to gain an advantage over your foes, and one or two levels even see you flying a space fighter. Duke is a lot more agile in this game and can do more than just walk and drop off of ledges – he can jump, do somersaults, and climb. Plus Bobby Prince works his magic like he did in Doom and comes up with – in my opinion – one of the greatest soundtracks in any game. This is one of the greatest platformers of all time and is still a lot of fun to this day. I'd recommend it in a heartbeat.

For the story, the first Duke Nukem was named, "Duke Nukum". The name sucks, and for the nicely visually upgraded sequel, they went to rename the hero "Duke Nukem". But they didn't restart the count, so this is Duke Nukem 2, and the first was renamed to Duke Nukem In this duke game, you have essentially everything that was in Duke Nukem 3D, aliens, big guns, keycards, but unfortunately no chicks ! This was a nicely done 2d platformer, for the time.
