Reviews for Rise of Venice
Worthy successor to Anno and Patrician gamesmahon | Sept. 28, 2013 | See all mahon's reviews »
Among so many new releases, Rise of Venice seems to be a shining gem just because it doesn't disappoint, it doesn't fall short of the expectations. It is a very good business simulation or strategy game set in the medieval period. With impressive number of choices and paths to lead you from a lowly merchant to a figure of power, it can keep you busy for weeks or even months. You will build your trading empire, fight against the odds, encounter pirates, and so on. If there is any worthy successor to the Anno and Patrician series of games, it is the Rise of Venice, so if you liked any of these games, Rice of Venice should be a perfect choice for you.
A strong merchant/trade simthegmanlee95 | Sept. 28, 2013 | See all thegmanlee95's reviews »
This game is a truly immersive experience, and is quite easily the definitive trade sim to date. The audio and visuals are compelling, albeit a bit samey after a while, the former more so than the latter. The gameplay is exactly what is expected- making carefully planned moves in order to manouver yourself into a position of power and carefully taking control of the market- the game does feel rather overcomplicated at times, making you jump through hoop after hoop in order to achieve your goal, yet also makes your actions on the game have a huge amount of variance- I could spend hours trying to get a better deal with another city, and it amount to naught- then the next time I try I'm having money thrown at me merely for moving my finger.
However, the game truly does excell at what it's best at- providing the authentic feel of Venice in the renaissance. If you're into mercantile in games or just love the time period, you'll enoy Rise of Venice
[this is a single player review only, as I could not play the multiplayer for some reason]
Great strategic gamelok0812 | Sept. 28, 2013 | See all lok0812's reviews »
This game is a really nice strategy game by Kalypso. The graphic of the game is top notch and the politic and family tree are deep and well designed. Best of all, newcomers to the genre can easily learn the game with its friendly tutorial since the game have a really deep learning curve but the tutorial really smooths it out. A few flaws of the game is the game still have a few bugs but that should be ironed out as this game was just released. Also there isn't much variety in terms of missions after a few you will find yourself doing the same thing again. Nonetheless, a great strategy title indeed to play.
