Slaughter cows with High Explosive shells

Assault Squad is a great RTS with deep tactical possibilities, many units and interesting system of reinforcements. You capture strategic points and are granted reinforcement points for which you can purchase units, ranging from infantry, through tanks, mortars and various self propelled guns, to air strikes. Game features also a single player skirmish. However every mission is exactly the same in concept. You start with just one team of infantry, and have to eliminate enemy forces, while capturing strategic points(which grants you access to more advanced units you can spawn). I've played Assault Squad in multiplayer, and it's there that the game shines. Playing agains a live opponent you can unleash, and expect, many witty tactical moves. Using mortars to cover your infantry's approach. Setting up heavy machineguns in forests to ambush your enemy. Laying down mines and building trenches. It is a real battlefield. And a cherry on top of the cake? At any time, with just a press of a single button, you can take DIRECT control of any unit on the battlefield. From a single trooper to a tank. Drive, aim, reload, repair, refuel and rearm. Every unit is fully autonomous, carries ammo(and fuel if it's a vehicle). You can even loot enemy soldiers to grab grenades/ammo, or even use enemy's own weapons against them(for example by killing a crew manning... a tank! and then repairing said tank). Blitzkrieg!

You can drive tanks here.

That's one of the features that got me in this game. You can actually drive and shoot with tanks. And not only tanks. Jeeps, APCs, mortars, heavy machine guns. You can take direct control over anything here. Men of War has other features that make it great - for one it's unforgiving. If you try attacking only with armored forces, you'll get obliterated. You need to combine infantry and armor, provide covering fire with heavy machine guns and mortars to advance without losing 3/4 of your troops. What else? You can destroy things! Bunkers on your way? No problem! Load high explosive shells on your tanks, or use such for your mortars. Problem solved. That's another great feature - Every unit has its inventory which, of course, runs out over time. You have to resupply. And consider what ammo to use against what is thrown at you. No use shooting infantry squads with armor piercing rounds. This game's demanding and punishing. It will take time to learn and master, but in the end will provide much satisfaction. Fights arent waged on great scale, you focus on few units and have to use them skillfuly to complete assigned tasts. When you learn what you're doing it's possible to win a battle without losing more than few infantrymen. And with a bit of luck and lots of tactical skill you'll win without losses.

Good RTS with skirmish

Men of War was a good game , but It lacked a skirmish mode. And with Assault squad , we have skirmish mode now. In my opinion , this is the best game in series. Also , It still has got direct control so you can play your soldiers like a action game. And you can manage your soldiers inventory. Exciting graphics make the game even better. The game is really challenging (but enjoyable ,especially for RTS fans) and sometimes you will fail at easy mode. This game is a good choice for RTS players and a must buy for fans of Men of War series.

Great WW2 RTS

Men of War was good, but Men of War: Assault Squad is probably the best game in the series. It's more interesting and less monotoneous than Vietnam, and focused more on small forces and their actions. It is very enjoyable as a multiplayer game, so if you wanted a good multiplayer RTS it is the best Men of War game for this purpose. In this game it's very important to put the right person in the right place for the right task. Just as with other Men of War games, it takes some experience and practice before you are good at it, but if you like wargaming, you will surely enjoy mastering the game and find yourself disappointed with other less demanding games after playing this one.
