We all have played this game and we all have enjoyed it, and no wonder, this game was most popular fps in whole world. It's old, but there are many servers and you will surely find something you will like. This game has many different gameplay mods, sounds and other cool stuff, that you will like. This game is simple, but it takes a while to become a pro and that path is very hard, because of all those players who bought it and never stoped playing. I heard someone saying that this game has bad graphics, but people like that have no idea about earlier games and how hard it was to make a good game ten years ago. Anyways, you shouldn't be reading reviews, because you should be playing this game already :D So get it as fast as you can!

Counter Strike is one of the first FPS multiplayer shooter games, and it was a real success! This game is pretty old by now, but I assure you it still is one of the best and most fun games to play with your friends, even years after its release. The quality of the game is excellent for its age, but you can't compare it to today's technology. Anyway, I think this is still one of the best games that you can play and have fun with your friends or by yourself, playing with the bots! I recommend this to all the FPS gamers who like shooting games, such as Battlefield and Call Of Duty, because this will surely give them a good time!
A classic game that will stay forever.garocco | Feb. 7, 2015 | See all garocco's reviews »
Counter Strike is simple and lightweight, so it runs on any PC. His fame is so great that even now sells, even more than the latest version. The graphics for the time were very good, but today is already a bit outdated. The gameplay is extremely easy and certainly anyone can learn. In this game there is no campaign, only the goal of winning the war of Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists. CS was simply one of the games I played with more friends. A simple game, references to most FPSs, which until today is fame, both for fans and for beginners. Without a doubt I recommend this game to everyone, as well as being simple, easy to play and control.
A Very Good Game, Even Today!Theblas123 | Nov. 15, 2014 | See all Theblas123's reviews »
Counter-Strike, oh, Counter-Strike. Among gamer, whether they be hardcore or not, this game is a legend. Even for a quite older game, it is still being played at 1.6, even when it is at 1.8.
The graphics were quite good for the time, while today they look quite dated. With its ruff edges and low-quality textures, it's not considered the best-looking game of today. Back in the day, it was legendary what Valve did with the Quake engine and what modders did with Half-Life.
The gameplay is nothing short of frantic, strategic multiplayer fun. The multitude of guns at your disposal are very good and satisfying to shoot. The servers are filled with quickscopers wielding the AWP, so be wary.
The sounds are icons of the genre and any gamer can recognise the "Roger That" or the "I'm In Position" of your fellow teammates and the resonating gunshots of a firefight around the corner.
The game still holds up today and is an absolute blast to play and I would recommend this to any gamer.
Arguably the most popular multiplayer game ever madeGmen | Sept. 8, 2014 | See all Gmen's reviews »
This started off life as a mod for Half-Life years ago, and sees you choosing between various terrorist factions and special forces counter-terrorist groups from all over the world.
You have several maps to choose from and different game modes (like hostage rescue, bomb defusal, etc.), but the basic point of gameplay here is that you start off in one part of the map and complete various objectives in said map, all while eliminating the enemy. You also make money while you play, which you can then use in the buy zone to get new weapons and other items such as body armour. There is a time limit, so this carries on until the round has ended.
Most people will no doubt love this game for its multiplayer. There’s a variety of different maps including environmental effects on the player (icy water will drain health, and snow will slow the player down so he can’t run or walk as fast, and not to mention trudging through snow makes a lot of noise).
There is a single-player that you can be played with bots, and that will be challenge enough for some, but it’s a game that doesn’t, in my opinion, have a lot of replay-ability, particularly in single player mode. I often tire of playing it after several sessions.
Counter-Strike hasn’t aged well graphically, and to be honest, there are other Counter-Strike games out there that are more modern, like CS: Source and Global Offensive. But if you want a classic multiplayer experience then Counter-Strike isn’t a bad buy at all.

CS is one of the most popular FPS ever, and it's for a reason. If you haven't played CS you made one big mistake, my friend. CS is old school FPS, and that means no health recharging, no air support, no vehicles, it's just you and your gun...my friend.
This is a game of skills and little bit of luck, so the only one you can rely is you and your team. You can find a lot of mods for CS, skins and maps so you never get bored playing it.
If you don't mind a little bit older graphics this is game for you.
Classic multiplayer game that will never die.Furrek | July 7, 2014 | See all Furrek's reviews »
This game was played everywhere, by everyone. Like, if you are a gamer, and you like multiplayer games, there is no way that you have never played Counter Strike. It's suprising simply game, but everything depend on two things: First one - your own skill. This was my probably first game, and Counter Strike is probably one of not many games where skill counts not your wallet, where individual skill of every player is so important. Another thing is teamwork. It's team versus team game. You can play 6vs6, or even 12vs12, depend on server that you are playing one. Sure, you can kill everyone in enemy's team, but it will require very high skill. You can't go wrong with Counter Strike. It's just a perfect online game. If you will get bored (in which I doubt), there are few interesting mods. You don't need to trust my, or other gamers, reviews. It's a Valve game. They know how to make great games.
Shooter you won't forgetCARLEST | June 28, 2014 | See all CARLEST's reviews »
This is probably the most known game ever, the Counter-Strike. It is really awesome how a mod got so famous. This game has everything: shooting, knives, grenades and players. There are different modes on servers so you can play classic shooter, try time surf and play deathrun, where you have to run to the terrorist and kill him, which is pretty hard. It's nice how mod gets modded. People have added tons of different things to Counter-Strike and made it really different from the original mod. There are only two sad things about this game: Pirated games and cheaters. Pirated games aren't so bad, as every game will get pirated once, but cheaters are really sad. With cheaters you can't play normally. Anyway, this is a really good game for any shooter fan.
A cheap way to experience competitive FPS at its bestmugaro | June 18, 2014 | See all mugaro's reviews »
Since it first came out in the late 90s, Counterstrike has come and changed the way competitive FPS is. Earning money through kills, hostage rescues & winning the round, buying better guns. It sounds like a "no duh" today, but CS really revolutionized multiplayer FPS back in the day. The sides are nearly symmetrical with the difference being availability of a few guns to buy, but you can always pick up a gun from an enemy.
This was the first game I saw use the flashbang, the riot shield, realistic sounds for things like the ak47 & magnum powered sniper rifle (awesome sound to hear by the way).
Get the valve pack, play this, CSS or CSGO. It's a great multiplayer game.

I think there isn't anyone who hasn't played CS is his life. This game is just a classic, a game that cannot be criticized for its graphics, sounds or physics engine because it doesn't matter. It began as a mod and converted into the most famous shooter game. You'll never get bored of this game; it's simple, addictive and competitive. With tons of community maps and gamemodes, every time is different. You don't have to worry about DLC, levels, achievements nor unlock weapons. It's all about skill, tactic, practice and team cooperation. You'll always have fun playing it... unless an enemy purchases a shield or an AWP, then you'll hate him for the rest of your life.

Counter-Strike is half as old as I am. Feels strange. People still play this game and some think none of the newer versions is as good.
The gun balance, the skill-based shooting, the classic maps and the classic opponents. This game is truly hardcore, not for casuals. I mean it. You will hit the skill ceiling long and hard if you try this game. This game is dominated by the young that have great reaction time and steady aim.
Prepare to lose a sniper fight to a desert eagle.

I think you don't even have to debate just buy it if you still don't have it. The game is alive and full of players although it is very old and that's what makes it classic. I have this game for a few years and I still play it, you always can play it again, it's never boring. There are so many modes that you can play just for example: Deathmatch, GunGame, Ski Mode and many more .. if you don't know these modes you can search a video of it and you can be impressed. Completely recommended for every FPS gamer, and In my opinion it's also better to buy the CS:Complete.
Excellent FPS in its day! However, today you could do better...Slaughtz | Feb. 6, 2014 | See all Slaughtz's reviews »
For its day and age, this was the epitome of good, solid FPS mechanics. No one could justly say that this game, referred to as CS 1.6, was a "bad game." Not only did this set the standard for modern shooters, it has an immense amount of game-modes within that make it interesting for any kind of person to play. Today, I would suggest this game only if you have an outdated computer, though! I would suggest either CS:GO or Counter-Strike:Source over this. Those games are much more active than CS 1.6 and the mechanics aren't too different!
Modern day games ignored and excluded from comparison, there would be no question in my mind that you MUST purchase this game and try it if you're a gamer of any kind.
The Grand-daddy of them all!Shaheed_Jamal | Jan. 21, 2014 | See all Shaheed_Jamal's reviews »
Who would've thought the brain-child of two enthusiast modders would give birth to one of most enduring franchises in all of gaming today. Nobody did. Which is why it astounds me that to this day, this game is in the top 10 most played games on Steam today, despite being out for almost 14 years. This is a testament to the timeless appeal of the game. Something that extends beyond the pretty pixels that dictate sales today, and into what gamers desire the most in a FPS. That, my friend, is SKILL.
The game was released in 1999, so the game has aged quite a bit. However, with the updates released by valve over the years, the game looks exceptionally well in an HD resolution. The game was a stunner for it's time and it still looks good today.
The sound is ok for the most part. but it doesn't compare to most shooters today.
Gameplay: This is why people play CS. It's the gameplay and it' perfect blend of skill and luck that causes it to be played gamer around the globe. Nothing feels more satisfying than fragging noobs and verterans alike. 10/10
The game is the most played online FPS game on earth. Enough said.

If you want a first person shooter with multiplayer, great online communities, and graphics that will run at max on any PC made in the past decade, Counter Strike is the game for you!
There's the traditional hostage mode, there's bomb mode, there's free for all, and there are a ton of custom game modes. Jailbreak servers are pretty fun and usually hilarious.
If you want a game with endless replayability that won't let you down, CS 1.6 is the way to go

The original Counter Strike is one of the all time classic online FPS shooters which started just as a mod for Half Life 1. Although sequels have been released since with more up-to-date features, the original Counter Strike has lots to offer if no-nonsense competitive gameplay suits you. The game has very little luck and is mostly skill based and you will need to play well to be successful. For example, if you run around even with the more powerful weapons, a stationed player with even a weaker weapon will likely kill you easily. Spraying and praying also doesn't work very well, forcing you to shoot intelligently in short, controlled bursts. As you can tell from the screenshots above, the graphics are extremely dated but pure gameplay is far more important than visual charm and aesthetics. Besides, if you play properly and concentrate on doing well who cares about graphics? Being an old game, the original Counter Strike is also missing unlockables, experience point gains and level upgrades, something that modern shooters like Battlefield 4 have. At the end of the day, if you want pure no-nonsense online shooting that rewards skill and you don't care about graphics, this is your game. Just be warned though, it is tough!

Best mod of history and the most successful and long-lived of all time multiplayer game. Playability and accuracy is unsurpassed and far superior to its predecessors CS: S and CS: GO. And thanks to the AlliedModders community, there is a lot of different mods for zombies, deathmatch, surfing, paintball, gungame, deathrun, Furien, HnS, jailbreak, etc ... the list is almost endless. Counter-Strike is the king of shooters, from 1999 to now, and wish to remain so for many more years.

Its hard to believe that Counter Strike had the humble beginnings of being just a simple mod for Half-Life that then got so popular that it became a stand-alone game. If you're looking for rank progression, weapon unlocking and such, then you will be very disappointed as this is a game about being skillful with the weapons you pick at the start of each round. During the rounds, you earn money that you then use ingame to buy new weapons, armor and such from the buy zone area, which is located near where you and your team are spawned. The maps generally have the objective of that a group of terrorists are trying to plant a bomb at a location while the counter terrorists try to stop them. Counter terrorists can win by either killing all the terrorists or disarming the bomb they managed to plant while the terrorists can win by killing all counter terrorists or keep them away from the bomb long enough for it to explode and thus win the round. People still play this game to this day and even have added in mods to the game like zombie survival and such, which only add to the variety. This is a must have for those who are tired of the rank progressions and such that is very VERY common with online shooters these days and just long for something that makes you use what skills you have in FPS instead of the absolute best equipment and such.
Started as a mod and ended being a multiplayer legend!MauroR | Nov. 29, 2013 | See all MauroR's reviews »
This game has started as a mod about 13-14 years ago (we're talking about June 1999 to be precise), the same modder didn't expect all this success. The mod has started gaining popularity in the growing multiplayer scene very fast, thanks to this popularity the Game Designer Minh "Gooseman" Le has been employeed by Valve to develop a standalone version of Counter-Strike, in this way Counter-Strike wasn't anymore a simple mod for Half Life but a full featured multiplayer game which many people still play today. The game put you in the shoes of 2 teams: The Terrorists and the Counter-Terrorists, and each team must eliminate all the enemies or completing the map objectives to win the round, the team who has won more rounds when the time runs out wins the entire match. In doing this you'll earn money (e. g. when you kill an enemy or win a round), this money is needed to buy weapons by pressing the assigned key at the start of the match, there are several weapons as rifles, guns, shotguns, grenades etc, but you can't buy weapons from everywhere and you always must go to the "buy zone" to be able to do this. Another thing, if you die you must wait to end of the round before spawning in game again so be careful and stay in cover.
I suggest to try this game (those who haven't played) because it deserve the praise it gets, it's one of the greatest multiplayer shooter ever created, and if you're also into multiplayer FPS, this game it's for you. If you can't get past the outdated graphics (come on guys, it's 13-14 years old, no one can't complain on this aspect) there are updated iterations of the game, such as Counter-Strike: Source or the most recent Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, as you can see there's something for everyone, but give this one a try, it's worth it.
