Reviews for Batman Arkham Origins: Season Pass

So this is where the Origin in Arkham Origins was hiding

Here it is. The season pass of Arkham Origins is the best thing about the game. As sad as that may be, it is the truth. The base game itself felt the same as Arkham City whereas this season pass gives it a bucket load of fresh new ideas. It separates itself from Arkham City and is defined as Arkham Origins. Now with that out of the way, what is included here? Besides the lot of skins you get, you also receive two notable packs. One being the initiation pack which is a story driven challenge mission pack. You play as a young Bruce Wayne training in the mountains and learning how to become batman. Now that sounds like the ORIGIN we deserved from the title Arkham Origins. The next being the reason you bought or are thinking of buying this season pass. The Cold Cold Heart. Introducing Mr. Freeze and his ORIGIN story. This is a full fledged story mission featuring a new suit and some cool new abilities culminating to a final boss that sadly was nowhere near as good as Arkham City's version. Overall, this season pass should have been included in the base game as it was full of originality which the base game was lacking.

The Arkham Origins Season Pass

First, please consider the skins as bonuses. Buying the season pass just for them isn't worth it. After all, they only add a cosmetic variety in the game and not new powers, skills or features. And, there are many skin mods you can find for free, and many of them equally in quality or better made by very talented people. But if you check the list of DLCs this season pass has, you will see the "Initiation DLC", which is a good collection of nice challenge maps with added story, and the best of all, the "Cold, Cold Heart DLC" (previously named "Narrative DLC"), which is a new story involving Mr. Freeze, nonetheless. The new added campaign is played in the same city with just some new things here and there. But if you liked Arkham Origins, you will like this too. If you plan to get one or both story DLCs and nothing else, you can wait for a sale and buy them separately. But you can still save something with the season pass and you get the skins as a bonus. That's pretty much it. Some of them are nice, tough.

Worth it for cold cold heart.

As the title says, it is worth it only for that one particular addon. Cold cold heart - it is a 2 hour ride if you're good with the game's combat and predator mechanics and don't bother with the Anarky tags. There's nothing new to explore as you're restricted to two areas of south gotham and Goth Corp building. New suit looks awesome but it isn't usable outside the DLC campaign. Freeze's boss fight is hard. Initiation - it's a bunch of challenge maps with a small cutscene at the beginning of each map. You can breeze through them except the very last one with a boss from main game who does extra damage for no reason and makes it more frustrating than challenging. Skins - Skins. All usable only after you've completed the main game or in challenge maps or MP. AO doesn't have the cheat code for skin selection so it's a little pointless. You can also unlock most of them by playing the game if you're up to it. It's missing the black mask challenge maps, bear that in mind.

Cold cold heart is good, the rest....

The season pass includes a lot of skins, which I do not really care of, some extra challenges and a new story named Cold Cold Heart. The challenge is very similar to the other challenges that you are used to. If you like them, you will like it. Otherwise, do few of them and when you get tired, just stop. In my opinion, the only thing that worth buying in this season pass, is the story named Cold Cold Heart. In it, Mr.Freeze wants Ferris Boyle, a man named personality of the year by the Wayne foundation. So, your main objective is to save him and find out why Freeze wants him so bad. If you liked Arkham Origins, you will like it for sure. It is very similar, the story is well described and you learn more about Mr.Freeze's background. If you can buy the story apart, just buy it. The rest is not really useful unless you are a really big fan of the challenges and skins.

Make a calculation

The thing you'd be looking at buying the DLC would be the story DLC, which is rumored to be around 10$ (as of the time of posting). Unless you want all the costumes + challenge maps, there is little point to get this (personally, I like the challenge maps, not so much the costumes) In short, this is worth buying if you like every single thing you would get, because unless they announce more story DLCs that will be included in the Season Pass, I would only consider to buy it or not after the DLC comes out, but most likely not at full price. But as of the time of posting this, the season pass is on sale for 4.99$, which is a good bargain, I originally intended to wait for the story DLC to come out then get that only, but if it's on sale for less than 10$, might as well grab it and consider others as bonus.

Think twice

Season pass is usually way to get DLC bit cheaper than buying it separately. With this you may want to think twice if you want it. It includes 4 skin packs, challenge map pack and story DLC. Skins on mainly single player game is usually useless extra. Challenge maps for some people may be that something they want out of the game but usually they are also some extra things if you want to play more. What's left is story DLC which isn't out yet when I was writing this. If you absolutely want them all then yes get this! Challenge + Story you may want to wait and see story DLC price and if they are cheaper bought separately. Otherwise I would only get the story DLC when it's out.

A nice addition

This season pass is, for sure, worth its price. Not only for the additional skin (they are nice, but nothing more, at least for me), but for the story DLC it comes from it. Playing as Bruce Wayine during its training is an added value, and if you think there will be MORE story based DLC, grab this now.
